First off, I must apologize and I promise to redo this video soon because the audio of this one obviously sucks BIG time. It was windy that day. This video is simply there to show one how to remove the rear window to access your window regulator for removal. The entire task shouldn’t take more than half-an-hour give or take a few minutes. I hope it helps.

This video definitely helped me out. I did find I didnt have to pull the window out. Once I got the outside trim piece off, I could get the window off track and drop it all the way down. This gave me more than enough room to get everything out and the new parts in.

Will try this method :-) will try to cover the tinted glas so I don't get any scratches when I drop it down.

Great Video. Really helped with my 2007 crown vic. I removed the window by removing the 2 bottom bolts of the guides and spread the guides and removed window very easy without removing the outside trim. Thanks for doing this video ! Learned alot....Bought a Harbor Freight rivet tool for $20 and it came with enough 1/4 rivets. Hope this helps someone else.

Thank you very much for the kind, encouraging words, Kathryn. I am glad it worked out for you. Although they are all Panther platformed, I didn't include the Crown Vic or Mercury Marquis in the heading because their main rear windows are much more narrower and their opera window is huge. I thought it might have to be handled differently because of that size difference. I am kind of curious as to how you "spread the guides" without removing them? I do need to get back to the bone yard and redo this video - you can hardly hear me with the wind noise. You are welcomed, and I'm glad you were able to do it yourself and save a couple of hundred bucks. :)

Thank you for this! My exterior trim piece which runs along the bottom of the rear window was lifted up a tad for some odd reason where it runs into the small opera window. I was able to remove the interior panel and know how to take out the trim and reinstall it flat now with your help. Thank you again good sir!

Thank so much for the comment. I swear I cringe every time I see this video due to the horrible audio (It was very windy that day) and some of the camera angles, but appreciative comments like yours temporarily offset my misgivings for the moment. My plan is to go back and redo it on a non-windy day, but LKQ has a policy against taping in the yard for some reason. I'm glad I could make a difference. Did your regulator and/or motor go out?

@@PalaniRides No, my regulator and motor are fine. My need was for just that exterior trim piece. For some reason is was misaligned and had to be removed and then reinstalled for it to seat properly. Had no clue how to do it and your video helped a lot!

Thanks for this video, I am sure it will be very helpful. I am doing this job on a 2011 Town Car left rear. It is turning into the job from hell as the center pins of the rivets will not budge I had to grind and drill out, also the upper forward nut of the regulator was so tight it rounded off the 11 mm nut, had to drill into and split the nut to get it off. Taking a break now before removing the window. Its very hot out today maybe wait till the sun goes down. Thanks again.

Pat. I’m sorry I’m just reading this now, but you don’t have to remove that exterior trim around the window like I did. The key to slipping the window out is to take those two plastic window inserts where the rivets went through. Taking those off, allows the window to slip out without having to remove that exterior trim. You still have to take off that chrome strip along the bottom to make it easier, but leave the trim that holds the small window in place.

@@PalaniRides Thank you for the reply I was not expecting that. Well I have watched you video several times and you make it look easy. Its still not going well for me. I have not been able to get the lower outside trim off, it is separating from the rubber and I am starting to bend the front part of trim. I tried pulling on the outside upper track and surrounding trim but nothing seems to want to move. I'm stubborn so I won't give up, Maybe I'll get some help as I don't have the finger strength I used to have. I am 76

Thank you, Marsh. I did two videos that day at the boneyard, and sadly, it shows. The wind noise and audio is terrible in this one, and I could have offered better angles on the actual removal of the window outside frame. I practiced once before taping this and everything slipped right out and slipped right back in with no issue, and once I started taping it, it fought me at every point, Lol! I think I might redo it again down the road on a less windy day. Maybe do one for an "L" model?

You are welcomed, Richard. Did you have any trouble getting it back in without any major issues? Once again, I apologize for the audio in it, but it was windy that day. I've been meaning to redo the entire thing during a calm day. Thanks again.

Maybe the outside trim is necessary but it looks easy to remove,just held my 1 screw ?

The outside lower "chrome" piece does provide a little wiggle room, and yes, it is slid on and held in by ONE acorn nut located by the top door hinge inside the door jam.

waiting on right motor got the passenger side motor by mistake.lol but all will be well i needed to find out how to get the window out and you did that it a 94 towncar and it will work the same i think.

Well, the platform (Panther) is the same, but the door shape, trim, and windows are totally different than the final Town Car series so I don’t know if it will apply. Good luck. 😊🎉

I've replaced all 4 on my 95 TC. The rear pass cable assembly has stripped again, they're junk. Last time I scratched the tint while removing the glass and it cost me another $85 for new tint darn it. There is a way to rotate the glass and remove it. You have just millimeters of room to spare with the rotation and removal but it comes out. You need to remember and practice for the refit process and don't lose your temper like I did. Tape up any sharp metal edges if you have aftermarket tint. I'm doing mine next week but if I remember you cannot remove the regulator with the glass in place. I think the 95 TC is actually easier than the 98+ models. At least I know it can be done!

So I'm trying to determine from your video you can start removing the window with the window all the way up?.. You don't have to roll it down partially to begin removal right? Thanks 🍺

Hi! The car's shop manual suggests that one can remove the regulator (Is that what you're trying to do - remove the regulator, the regulator's motor, or both?) WITHOUT removing the window, but I don't see how as I mentioned in this video. Once you remove the door panel and knock or drill out the factory rivets that attach the regulator to the window and secure it to the door's frame via the motor, the window will rest inside the door with the top part of the window in the way of the regulator's two top welded bolts. If you raise the window to the top as I did, and hold the window with the orange Harbor Freight suction cups as I did to allow further work inside the door's cavity, the bottom part of the window gets in the way of pulling the regulator's bolts also - one is screwed either way is how I experienced it. This is why one must remove the window completely so those two top welded bolts slide right out. Once you remove the metal and rubber guide trim as I did (the one I put on the ground), everything simply pops right out. I hope I was of help. It's really easier than it sounds. You can do it. ... It would be much easier if I could explain it over the phone, but how does one send such info through KZfaq?

There is no epoxy or anything similar holding that little window in its rubber frame is it ? It should just slide out after removed out of doors, correct ?
@PalaniRides
@PalaniRides Жыл бұрын
If it is designed with a tight fit, it won't likely need any kind of epoxy ... I don't recall how it was seated in the frame because that wasn't my focus at the time. If you do succeed at removing that assembly, you are going to have to study how they got that glass into that hard rubber frame. I wish I had an answer for you, but I didn't study it. If there is no screw holding it in, you might have to hot water it and work the rubber until it slips out. Good luck.

Do you think I can remove the side quarter window without taking main window out and just removing one screw from its side on the bottom which holds it in place ?
@PalaniRides
@PalaniRides Жыл бұрын
Not sure about your question, but that rear quarter window (The small one, right?) is set in place in an assembly which surrounds the entire window and is held in by TWO bolts, one right beneath the window and one in between the door hinges (around 1:57) with the entire assembly on the ground at 5:43 in the video. Was the smaller window broken? I guessing you don't want to deal with removing the larger window from the regulator (punching the factory rivets out, etc?) and simply want to replace that rear window? If that's the case, I'm not sure on a regular Town Car with the rear window all the way down, because the rear window unfortunately doesn't go all the way down on a regular wheelbase (I believe it does on an "L" model with the longer doors) Town Car. The bigger window's rubber track guides are in that small window assembly on both ends, so the bigger window will be in those guides even at the bigger window's lowest position, so in theory one should be able to pull that assembly up and out once the two bolts are removed, but I don't know whether one needs to pull that assembly outward as you lift it upward. The window's tight fit and curvature might prevent you from pulling that assembly out because the large window is partially still in those guides or tracks. That's a guess on my part as I've never had to isolate and remove the smaller window. I also don't remember if other obstructions exit. It would be awfully tight if you did succeed and maybe a bitch to put back. I'm sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer. :(

I know you did remove the second bolt but it looks like ,that you didn’t have to take out that window rubber all the way just on a side to take that little window by removing maybe only the one screw ?

Lol! You are kidding, right? My aim was to show one how to remove the window, remove a defective regulator, and then put it all back. I don't think most people looking to replace a regulator want to break their window and have to replace that too.
