First we figure out the frequency of the whine using a spectral analysis and an online tone generator, then we suppress that frequency using the EQ and the Notch filter (also known as bandstop)

10/10 tutorial. Once you hear this type of noise, you'll notice it almost instantly in just about any sort of instance of audio, and it can be soul-crushingly distracting. I've found myself going back to old material I've recorded or mixed and noticing just how dirty a lot of the audio fidelity can be for some things, this helps greatly in cleaning some of it up.

Thank you so much. I had a whine from a bad mic cable and it was driving me nuts. Noise removal helped to an extent, but I still got an ear piecing wail before and after every word. The graphic eq thing makes it almost impossible to notice now

This video saved me a few months ago when I needed to work on an audio without much experience. Had to reset my computer today so my Audacity was also reset, and this helped yet again ahahaha Great work!

Thank you so much for this! This saved me 3 hours of audio! The notch filter did it for me. I'm not sure what caused it, but it sounded like there was a reverberating sound at about 474hz in my audio, simialar to an owl hoot. No idea what caused it, and it wasn't an owl lol

My problem isn't high pitched noises in the background, it's my VOICE! The average pitch of my voice is about 180hz, but there's like some really nasty (and very pronounced) buzzy overtones in it at around 9-10 khz. I don't know why I sound like that now, I never used to. It's like my vocal chords got replaced by a fly buzzing it's wings or something.

This is really helpful. I use an EHX Tri Parallel Mixer along with 13 other pedals on isolated power and a Line 6 HX Stomp with a switching AC adapter. The easiest way for noise to get in my signal chain (besides strat pickups lol) is EMF into poor cabling or the Stomp AC adapter. Does removing the offending frequency from the recorded track compromise the quality in any way? Otherwise I might buy a current doubler and power the Stomp on my isolated power supply.
@rposegate
@rposegate 2 ай бұрын
The short answer is yes, it does compromise the quality of sound. For spoken audio like in the example here it’s not a big deal. For high-quality music it could be an issue. Really the only way to *not* compromise the sound is to get rid of the frequency at the source. However, the noise in the strat pickups is also part of their whole sonic package and probably results in a nice brightness in general which might only be offensive in quieter situations. It’s definitely complicated and requires compromises!

Which version of Audacity are you using? If you download the latest version it should work--I just checked the latest build and the graphic EQ still works the same.

how do you get rid of a low pitch wine That’s also distorted?
@rposegate
@rposegate Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, distortion often means you're using a wider spectrum of frequency. Plus removing lower frequencies will often interfere with the things you actually want to remain in your recording. This will only work with higher-pitched and purer tones. Sorry I can't help more!
