Discovered Renaissance back in about 73, they were playing my home town of Middlesbrough as part of a 3 band package tour (with Audience and Stackridge...anyone remember them?). Loved them from the first notes and have been a major fan since then. But it was Annie's voice that really did it. A bit reminiscent of Jacqui McShee at times, but what power and range. I wonder if she's ever tried singing an operatic aria?

I first heard Renaissance in a record shop in Cincinnati. I asked what was playing and bought the album on the spot! I have loved listening to them ever since! Anne has a voice of an angel! How beautiful! This music will last forever! Timeless, like The Beatles, BUT, so different! I’ll listen to them both for my final days! Peace and Love! Steve

My friend and guitarist Mike (Mick) Parsons who I formed Devon band Flying Fortress with joined this group but sadly passed on because of a car accident. He was due to go into the studio to play on this album. He was a great player and would have added so much to it. Thanks to Annie and the band at the time who dedicated the album to Mike (Mick) Parsons.. There is a season to laugh, a season to cry. God Bless Psalm 23. Interesting comment. Always wondered how much of the magic was due to Annie's voice versus the songs themselves and the men who performed with her. Final conclusion is that every once in a while, for some ineffable reason, the right people get together at the right time under the right circumstances, and do something wonderful. Renaissance with the classic lineup was one of those times. And we are lucky it happened. Maybe there is a God after all.

Though the lads in Renaissance were nice enough blokes, musically they were lightweights in comparison to Annie Haslam, who was, and remains, a consummate musician possessed of an extraordinary, KILLER DILLER voice.
@MadanRajaRock8 жыл бұрын
+David Ettinger Not really, you can get other keyboardists/bassists to adequately fill in for Tout/Camp (though not match them perhaps), as Ren did from 2009 onwards, but it would be incredibly difficult to find one singer to cover Annie's entire repertoire. You might want to check out Mary Fahl's duet with Annie on I Think of You for an example (and Mary is a very accomplished singer in her own right). In that sense, they weren't really her equal.
@davidrimlees14843 жыл бұрын
Completely disagree. Annie's voice always great, but without the musicianship and compositional skills of Dunford et al it would never have been the force it was. They were hardly lightweights,but accomplished musicians.
