I'm lucky enough to say that Renaissance is on my "seen them live 25+ times" list, and this song just says why, doesn’t it? What an angel. What a band. What a gift to us all.

Always loved Annie and was always amazed by the music. Had every album they put out. The piano solo in this comes from Litanies by Jehan Alain, a French composer who was also the brother of the extraordinary organist Marie-Claire Alain. There is a KZfaq video of her playing Litanies on the great organ of the Hofkirche in Luzern, Switzerland.

Annie Haslam has a five octave vocal range. That's what makes her singing so impressive. The ability to cover such a broad range of notes....
@dancingwater1582
@dancingwater1582 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, she has an extraordinary set of cords. Maybe 2.5 to 3 octaves at very best. 5 octave range in a human being is not an option. Minnie Ripperton may have had a 3 octave range. A standard piano keyboard range is 7+ octaves.
@madanmohan1024
@madanmohan1024 3 жыл бұрын
@@dancingwater1582 Her measured range - Annie's - is 3 octaves and two full tones to be precise. Minnie's is 4 octaves. Minnie could get into the 7th octave though she rarely did because that's clearly not a very musical place to sing.

@@hotajax Well, maybe it's a personal taste thing, but I've always liked Joan Baez's voice, particularly her speaking voice. And she did a very credible job on Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, which was a step up from the usual coffee house music. Anyway, they all beat the current superstars by a wide margin.

I mainly listen to extreme metal, too. Renaissance are really good, but I don't see how they make Yes irrelevant.
