This video made me so sad. It reminded me of how happy I was as a child.... how life seemed uncomplicated.... Anyway, love this song. Thanks for posting it!

So true. I loved this programme when I was younger and only a few years ago I bought the dvds of the whole series and watched it again. Strange how life did seem simpler then 😢

Hmmmmm....This is beautiful to watching again. I recall looking forward to seeing this TV show as a young boy in Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬. I remain so thankful to my creator that I witnessed those beautiful, wonderful days of the Earth 🌎, we don't have so much materialistically, but we have love ❤❤ and compassion for fellow human. Life was nice and enjoyable back then......

My Dad used to manage Renaissance who wrote the theme tune and who still have a beautiful quality to their music. Crazy to hear it again. I love that I lived that period in time as a kid.

It was broadcasted in Israel when I was in elementary school (more than 20 years ago)... So I guess it was broadcasted all over the world. Great series! And... there is nothing like Renaissance nowadays! Nothing!

Different version of this song called 'Back Home Once Again', to that featured on Renaissance's 1978 album 'A Song for All Seasons', vocal by Annie Haslam😊
@anorak6415 жыл бұрын
The PL these song is also on Renaissance's 1978 album 'A Song for All Seasons'. The musical arrangement is somewhat different- Annie Haslam (lead singer) multi-tracks extra soprano vocal parts and it sounds fab. What a voice!

Jesus,This is fantastic, i could spend the rest of my life trying to get near this level of bass playing and not get near,and what a piece of music to do it to. Having this way up front makes this classic sound even better. Got an easier one for you but would like to hear you do it..Swing out Sister's 'You on my mind'.

Does anyone remember a TV series that was around at this time called 'Striker' about a kid that was good at football?
@cavalier08085416 жыл бұрын
Only 2 series (each made with 7 episodes) were aired. Series 1 was aired in 1977, and series 2 was aired in late 1978 and early 1979.

I've just bought two second hand books, 'Striker' and 'Striker:Second Leg'. I'd completely forgotten about the show until i read about it on a forum recently. Loved the books and the programme as a kid, unfortunately it looks as though there is no video footage at all remaining out there.

If it's the actual TV series you're referring to, then you may be interested to know I just spotted the complete series on DVD for only £8 on Amazon UK. I don't recall ever watching any of it myself, but I do know the song - it was on the flip-side of Northern Lights, Renaissance's hit, and it was out of nostalgia that I looked it up on here and spotted your comment. So happy viewing, if you go for it!

You are spot on. Mr Dyker doesn't want Ben to play football because, unbeknown to his son, he himself is a former pro, who's career was ruined by injury.

@jhillst @jhillst Each to their own, my friend. I was delighted when I just found this video but, in my opinion, this soundtrack doesn't even begin to compare with the studio arrangement which is so much more deeper and melodic. This is a mish-mash without the strong orchestral sequences...

@Isleofskye I guess it's just the lazy, "swinging" rhythm of the studio version that doesn't sit too well with me. I like the rhythm of this version better -- it's faster and more urgent, so it reflects the fast-paced lifestyle of the paper lads better. If you could take this version and find a way to extend it to the length of the album version (perhaps using some of the instrumental bits from the soundtrack), that would be almost perfect.

You're the only other person that I've come across that remembers it. I think the kids name was Ben Dyker although that might have been his dad - who I think also used to be a footballer when he was younger.

I know it can get cold delivering papers in the morning, but what a bunch of scruffs kids were then, duffle coats, parkas, bobble hats and, horrors, flared trousers. AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!
@kevinstephenson46744 жыл бұрын
They were not scruffs, it was what young people were in the 70's, including flared trousers. More stylish than the ripped jeans many wear these days. This was the North East, not Carnaby Street.

I grew up in County Durham in the 50/60s. Things were rough and ready, army backpacks for carrying school kit and books, the longer the single strap was the better. School fights as well as British Bulldog. Sweet memories, despite the poverty. Wouldn't swap it for what the kids have today.
