From the first time I heard the album Prologue to this day I have a love for Annie's 5 octave voice, her performance and lets face it, she's gorgeous. The band was excellent and their live show - I saw only once in 1977 at Seton Hall Uni in Orange NJ, was dynamic, touching, amazingly orchestrated and performed. That's was music! Carpet of the Sun was played at sunrise once morning in July 2014 as my late wife's ashes were loosened to the sea....She introduced me to the band. It seemed appropriate then, and remains so.

Annie Haslam has been by far one of the brightest star in the sky for over 40 years now. 5-octave voice, perfect pitch, charisma, subtliness, wit, and enormous heart-breaking repertouire- all that always reminds me of the highest rank artists of all time, like Barbra Streisand or Whitney Houston. Nevertheless, hardly anybody could match Annie's originality, beauty of Her soul and modesty. Long live Annie !

Well, she has been much less acknowledged and less commercially successful than those other two great singers you mentioned (and not necessarily because she is not as good, more on account of bad luck maybe). But by dint of sheer longevity, she is winning over more and more listeners. They are supposed to be touring Europe this year. It is amazing that she is still able to handle so much live singing at her age, and do it well more often than not (I presume). Long live Annie indeed.

As a primary school (elementary to you American folk) teacher, I've taught this gorgeous song to a several groups of kids across the years. The innate optimism is a great balm in this modern world, and the sound of children's voices cannot be compared. Idle daydream? To perform said song in Annie's presence!

Longtime fan of Annie Haslem, and certainly of Renaissance. In the Strawbs 50th Anniversary celebration a few years back, she sang the Sandra Denny parts from the "All Our Own Work" album. That was a real treat. I truly believe she (Annie) is one of the greatest female rock artists ever. She is also a very talented artist with the paints.

I still have their albums on vinyl. This music is sublime and sounds every bit as good today as when I was a teenager when the albums were initially released. If anything, Annie's voice is even more gorgeous to me today than it was way back then. And I concur with the comment made below that the bassist played some fantastic lines in this performance.

I really love Annie. Her Voice still sounds so good despair the years passed by. She's so beautiful, so positive. Renaissance was a great band, albums such Ashes Are Burning, Turn of the Cards, Prologue, Scheherazade, etc. signed my life and let me discovered great composers such Maurice Jarre ("Tonya and Yury Arrive At Varykino" posted in Can You Understand) and Jehan Alain ("Litanies" as the Intro Theme from Running Hard). And John Tout is a great Piano player...Annie, I simply love you!!!!

Great Performance -Partial Lyrics below: Come along with me Down into the world of seeing Come and you'll be free Take the time to find the feeling See everything on it's own And you'll find you know the way And you'll know the things you're shown Owe everything to the day [Chorus:] See the carpet of the sun The green grass soft and sweet Sands upon the shores of time Of oceans mountains deep Part of the world that you live in You are the part that you're giving.

A true to life voice and a slight glimpse into the eternal real world where every word is a song and every step a dance.
