The 2021 Renault Captur is MUCH better than the old one. Thank goodness. Because the old one really wasn't much chop. Renault has increased the value proposition, thrown a bunch of new technology at the Captur and really made it a competitive vehicle in the segment. Paul Maric gets behind the wheel to see what it's like.

I have to say, on the contrary with the key! I don’t know how I’ll ever go back to a “regular” key after my current Renault with that key! It seems odd at first, but it actually slips seamlessly into your pants pocket, bags and satchels etc without the bulk of a traditional chunky key, which always bulges in pants. OK that’s probably too evangelical, but it’s so good! Also the walk away and it locks feature is another thing I’ll miss massively - tony details that make a huge difference in everyday life.

Yes I have a Koleos with that key and don’t mind it along with the walk away locking and the sliding sunvisor, so handy when you have the sun on the door side. But unfortunately, their crap stuff is really crap. The cvt is is god damn awful and the sat navigation system is well, just the worst I have ever experienced. Such a pity as most other features are not too bad. Oh and you really know it’s two wheel drive as you can feel the front of the car pulling you and they slip on faster takeoffs. I know there is a 4 wheel drive version though so can’t comment on that.

Thanks Paul for bringing this up, I havw multi spoke rims design in 19inch in the two tone silver/black finish is a nightmare to clean. Hard to reach places and to clean all the little nooks and crannies that require you to be a contortionist. My partners car a Kia Cerato and it's stylish yet very simple star designed alloy/Metallic wheels is a breeze. Like the basic rims of the 90s & 00s. So easy to wipe off and get around the areas, cleans very easily. Being metallic shines nicely like any modern rim. I think the more intricate rim designs are becoming the more dirt it collects and harbours thus cleaning is more strenuous.

Thanks for the review, excellent! I did a test drive yesterday and loved it. I agree with you about the gearbox changing too easy into neutral by accident (happened to me). Otherwise, the car is great in design and performance. One question: which version did you drive? The leather seats and arm rest do not come standard in all versions so I am curious. Thank you!

Great review - gave me lots of info. I was looking at buying a second hand captur and was wondering about just how expensive are parts compared to other cars (like toyota/holden etc.). I once had a vw golf (turbo diesel) - great car but parts were very expensive (motor lasted well but air con was going to cost $3000 to fix and front wheel bearings were in excess of $700 fitted). It made the car too expensive to own even though the motor and gearbox were great. It was a 2008 model with 220000 on the clock.

I own in the UK, 1.3edc 7 speed auto in Iconic spec. It's a lovely car to drive, comfartable and spacious enough for our needs. Infotainment is easy to use and intuitive, safety features are an added bonus, fuel consumption is acceptable at 39.9mpg (uk). A lot of the options on the review are added extras such as the floating shelf, phone charger etc.

I've had this car for a year and I've never accidentally knocked it into neutral. Neither has my wife. One thing I do hate about the car is the lack of a physical volume dial. It has a little remote control stalk sticking out from the steering column that has two buttons for volume and an endless rotary encoder for changing tracks as if that makes any goddamn sense whatsoever. You also can't turn off the road condition warnings and at least in Finland the warnings are completely off the mark 80% of the time.

Stay away from the Koleos. It's just a rebadged X-Trail - same engine, same transmission, same platform just different body panels. You would get better support from Nissan Australia as Renault Australia have left and are imported and "supported" by ATECO. They are well known for leaving owners in the dark and rejecting warranty claims. Yes I am a Koleos owner.
@ytlurker220
@ytlurker220 3 жыл бұрын
@@trainingtheworld5093 the model is now sold in mainland Europe with a 2.0L 4cyl engine paired with an EDC transmission, still made by Renault Samsung in South Korea. ATECO should change the imported model over from the CVT as it's a much better drive, more fuel efficient and reliable. The Koleos is nowhere near the same vehicle as the X-Trail, the whole cabin structure and interior mounted over the chassis platform is completely different. As for ATECO taking over as distributor, I spoke to the service department at Renault Brookvale and they have been promised that spare parts will become more accessible and cheaper.

@@trainingtheworld5093 I read what you said. That is the X-Trail for the Korean market only, global X-Trails are made in Japan. I know JATCO CVTs result in uninspiring performance and sub-par reliability. If you read what I said, I stated clearly that the Koleos is sitting on the same platform, but everything above that is UNIQUE. It's NOT just the drivetrain and body panels, the whole metal structure above it is vastly different. A platform is only the skeletal structure of what underpins the car, it doesn't dictate the end product and in fact, Volkswagen has done the same. It's possible for Renault to share the same chassis while using a completely different drivetrain, which they HAVE DONE for Europe in the SAME FACTORY, using a 2.0L 4cyl and EDC TRANSMISSION. THAT WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE FOR AUSTRALIA. You ignored my response to your ATECO comment, funnily enough.

I've always wanted to buy a Renault, but worried by reliability issues and low resale. Currently driving a VW T Cross R Line , so this was an interesting comparison. Powerful engine for the segment and nice looking interior. I can't hack the big intrusive centre screen, and prefer an integrated screen in the dashboard. Luggage space good and I like the wheels. Easily cleaned with a long handled furry brush from Supercheap. I'd seriously consider this car if they fixed that ergonomic gearlever issue.

As a current Megane owner for the last 7 years the reliability has been 100% for over 140k. It little 1.5Ltr diesel is running as good as the day we picked it up. My only complaint is the paint is a little soft and can mark easily. I am thinking very seriously about up grading to this Model. We have had two capturs both bottom of the range. They roll around a lot on corners, the basic seats don't hold you but are comfortable to sit on. The ECO button has always been to low down on the centre console taking your eye's off the road when using it. 4 speed gear box is horid. Gutless overtaking on motorways and hills. The alloys are sharp and cut my fingers when washing them. The plastic interior isn't very nice. The radio hardy pics up stations. Apart from that the two cars have been good. Obviously the top range will be better in many ways. They do look nice and ours has been reliable.

@@alenalavanja6543 build quality is on par for what's available, I know as I drive a Kadjar in Australia right now with a different tune of this engine. No one goes shaking the centre console and armrest, after years of use there's no way they'd break off. The dealer network is absolutely there having been in communication with over 5 dealerships during purchase, and there's a mechanic that specialises in just Renaults nearby. I've spoken to them, and they have parts on hand, delivered from a local dealership, and available for import from Melbourne (Renault Nissan Mitsubishi parts warehouse) and France for obscure parts which are rarely needed. Most cities have a few specialist mechanics. 5 year warranty included and the Koleos has 7 years. They have honoured warranties well from service centre reviews I've read, and with ATECO as the distributor this year onwards, more parts have been promised to become available at lower prices. Daimler co-developed this engine with Renault, it's perfectly reliable. No other parts are shared, in fact most of the hidden electronic bits are shared with Nissan and Mitsubishi. Resale value is fine considering they already cost less than Asian rivals, considering the features included, and are reliable for the long-term with class-leading service intervals.

You should mention the fact that Renault Australia have abandoned Australia and are now supported (hmm I use that term loosely) by those customer service experts at ATECO. I'd steer clear of anything with a Renault badge in Australia.

I've spoken to an experienced service manager from a Renault dealership that will be operating under ATECO in a few months, and they had good things to say. You seem very ignorant to say the least. You're paying much more for nothing extra, just less boot space and a boring car that everyone else has. Mazda stupidly prioritises sculpted body panels and a large engine over interior practicality such as boot and rear seat space.

@@hekatojamirjr.9717 you only need to look at the specifications on the Wikipedia articles to realise it's a completely different standard of vehicle. The Kiger is a cheap vehicle for a market that can't afford the Captur. That's why it's almost 500kg lighter; that's 500kg of refinement and safety. A vehicle that shares the same design ethos doesn't mean it's the same vehicle. Look at Mazda for example, their vehicle design language is shared across all vehicles. They're not the same.
