How does the toolchanger know which tool is active? Let’s say you cut the power while tool 3 is selected... will it know that Tool 3 is active when you power it back on or will it Crash trying to pick up tool 0, thinking it has no tool selected?

It is now obvious to me that assembling this printer is being made way more fun as we work "together" on the project! Try as I might I cannot keep up with you! LOL Really your pace is perfect. Was there Loctite on the gear set screw?

Bloopers at the end! Great stuff. Do you think this system would work well with a quartet of Zesty Nimble cable remote drives? I was slightly disappointed to see that it's bowden tube based, but only a tiny bit.

The "standard" setup is based on a Bowden system, but calling it standard does this machine a disservice, the idea behind the toolchanger is not to simply be another 3d printer, this falls in line with a research and development tool that allows for different tools/tool strategies to be implemented through a single manufacturing platform. Essentially, you can fit whatever tool you can conjure up to it, the Hemera is an amazing option when looking at a direct drive extruder, I've seen custom zesty designs too so the option is there. The newly introduced ASMBL suite works brilliantly in both standalone and incorporated into f360

To add on to the other reply. Some people of the forum use Zesty Nimble, Custom Bondtech BMG and custom planetary gearbox extruders (Orbiter). Hemeras work very well, and have dedicated munting kits from E3D, but the tool weight is ~475g. The options listed above are more lightweight.

Very cool logo-animation. Did you use Blender?
@ReneJurack
@ReneJurack 3 жыл бұрын
that was done in the adobe-suit, after effects mostly. Adopted it to Apple Motion, because I work with Finalcut, now.

Very very cool man. Will the ATC be handled mostly by the slicer/post-processor, or by the duet board itself? ( who interprets the T commands? )
@ReneJurack
@ReneJurack 3 жыл бұрын
One could do it either way, but the best way is probably letting the firmware interpret the T-commands. I already have a video for this uploaded, will release it soon!

@@ReneJurack That's really cool. Do you think there's any chance we'll see a DICE with a tool changer someday? :) The DICE has inspired me a lot, and recently I've been working on a 100x100x100mm metal-capable CNC mill with ATC. The goal is to make it into a machine that is travel-size but can actually machine steel and has at least 8 ATC tool posts. It's a bit of a crazy project, but I'll have stuff about it on my KZfaq at some point soon. The interesting thing is, DICE was my main inspiration for the project :) I so wish I owned a DICE printer. Do you know if anyone sells fully assembled DICE, or at least kits?

@@ArthurWolf I did design a quick-change-toolhead, but it has to be changed manual, though. I did receive some requests for a new batch of DICE, but the amount of interested people has to reach at least 10 or so, to make it affordable...

@@ReneJurack I think there are websites online for Open-Source projects/hardware, where you create a page for your project, set a minium order qty, like 10 in your case, and it pays you / starts things up when you reach 10. I'm sure I've seen at least two sites like that around, it sounds like it could help in your case.
