Lyrics:
I've been around for you
I've been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
I've lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief
You got me stealin' your love away
'Cause you never give it
Peeling the years away
And we can't relive it
I make you laugh
And you make me cry
I believe it's time for me to fly

This band's story, REO Speedwagon, is actually an iconic rock and roll re-telling of "The Little Engine That Could". From day one, they never, ever, EVER gave up, even in their darkest moments. When I was a kid, barely 9 years old, the local music store in the town I grew up in, had "bargain bin" sales, 50 cents, 75 cents, or a buck - for opened, unsold records that honestly, the store couldn't GIVE away in most cases. One record that looked kinda cool on its cover, was a half-bucker titled "This Time We Mean It". I didn't comprehend why an album by any rock and roll artist would be titled as such back when I was that young, but I still wanted to hear it. In time, that same artist would eventually have at least one more quirky project title, something about "tuna fish"... Back to "This Time We Mean It" - to the public in general, there was an insane, world record breaking amount of just plain non-interest it seemed. It truthfully, hardly sold at all. But a few songs on that album, namely "Reelin'" and "Candelera" ... I can still hear in my head plain as day - they had an awkward 'catchiness' to them (IMHO). And maybe, the core of the band knew it too, because they kept on trying, until songs started to get more airplay, and then 1980 rolled around and this "little band that could" - REO Speedwagon (with a few changes in personnel, notably their lead vocalist), would eventually come to unleash their world‐dominating masterpiece called "High Infidelity" ... and the train had reached the top of the mountain finally, as HI was the biggest selling album released that year, globally. It's what you get if you follow your heart and nothing else, and you believe in yourself, not caring who else does, and not being discouraged by the masses who never did. "TIME FOR ME TO FLY" is a gem, one of my favorites, and it almost seems the band just 'lights right up' when they perform it live. It's a testament to the glory of this band, their deserved success, and their rightful place among remembered icons of a bygone era, making ANY gen-X-er out there think, know, and believe that old catchphrase, "They just don't make 'em like this any more." Of that, I have zero doubt, and this all comes from a piano player of 40 years in the music business, and not ONCE did I ever tune a piano, and I'm not a fan of tuna either, while I'm at it. The point is ... nothing. Nothing at all. It DOESN'T MATTER. Kudos, REO Speedwagon. 💯

I've got to meet them, and once on my birthday w/ autograph CD. I'm currently making my new song lists. Tryin to just pick 3 from each band/artists. NOT WITH REO!!! 1)Back on the road again 2)Don't Let Him Go 3)Only the Strong Survive 4)Keep Pushin' 5)Time for Me to Fly 6)Wish You Were Here 7)Say You Love Me So far, I've only just started!!!😜🤪😁😊😁😄😃😀

Not to be argumentative.. b'c I agree with you about today's music sucking!! It sucks. So.... so bad. But it isn't a dearth of talent. The talent is everywhere. It's the garbage-dump crap music that we are programming the youngsters with now, and the garbage that main-stream media and society is pushing now. The younger ones don't have a clue about how it used to be - and how we waited for this incredible music to come out. Man... we loved it. We lived it. It's so sad now, to see where it has all gone. I hope the good stuff will come back. REO was, and still is, such an awesome band, with great songs that live forever!

Auto tune when used properly isn’t a crutch, it’s merely pitch correction. And it’s rarely used live with rock and metal acts today. You can be a phenomenal vocalist and still benefit from it because simply put: stuff in perfect key sounds better. I will agree that the guys using it for vocal effects or actually using it to sound good are just dumb.

@@travelingshoesguru not for years. The place where they used to have concerts got an arena style football team and a penguins hockey farm team and for some unknown reason they decided people would rather watch that than a concert. The football ain't bad, even has a few failed college players that went to high skool around here. What pisses me off is that the same damn hockey/fist fight they have in the civic center they also broadcast on the local TV stations. Why the hell would i drive 30 miles and pay $5 for a tube steak (hotdog to you non hillbillies) when i can stay home and watch it for free? I believe the last concert i saw at that place was Damn Yankees and that was a while ago.
