Really thorough breakdown. Not going to lie the CO$T with the pad and where I was going to store the darn thing when not in use was the reason I didn't bother with this one.

Same, but mostly storage. With Ares, it would not be stored on the rack. I also like quick to setup exercises, so don’t want to have to set up various items. I would like to find a better way to do leg extensions. Rumor has it that Rep is working on a leg extension/curl attachment for the Black Wing, which I have on order.

Thanks Jonathan and for now, I’m just storing along the wall of my staircase, slightly behind my dumbbell stand so it doesn’t slide away. I would not want to lift this up to hang on the rack even if I had those storage pegs. That’s too much of a hassle IMO.

A bench mounted option would be ideal Mark and have been waiting for one for a while. Fingers crossed and that might make me upgrade from my AB5200. I also try to group exercises back to back - move the bench into the rack once and then take it out. Setup the utility seat for a few things and then put it away. I too like the quick setup when possible

@@markhalstead2386 Yeah the black wing is heavy enough to handle an attachment and then be used for leg ext/curls without budging.

Any update? I was going to buy one just for seal rows and box jumps and box squats. But still think it's too much. I have the bells of steel hydra so I can do the chest supported but felt strict seal row would be better. I was brainstorming the belt squat hack myself and glad to hear someone else come up with a solution. I would love to see a video of you experimenting

Excellent review and some really creative uses! I think this thing could be worth it just for seal rows alone. Seal rows have been my go-to exercise for the last 6 months. They've been great for my back development while managing my low back fatigue. I would absolutely get this if I didn't already have Rogue's. Again, an excellent and very thoughtful review, Marcus! ✌️

to those who are wondering, it will fit a titan t3 or x3 rack. There will be some side to side play unless you custom cut down the plastic inserts it comes with. I didn't bother and it's so heavy you're not likely having a problem with it shifting.

Nice review. I've mainly used it for step ups, Calf raises, and seal rows. Calf raises with my rep SSB has really helped my calves grow. For once, being vertically challenged has helped me, woth the utility of this attachment. For back extensions, I use 2 rogue roller pads. Preacher curls hurts my elbows/wrists too much, so I can't do them anymore.

As always a solid review Twisted, where I think Rep missed the mark in my opinion (in regards to seal rows) is that they should make the pad have side steel brackets that lay on flipdown safeties inside the rack with the pad facing forward to back in the same direction of the safeties, that way the user can row the bar in the same direction that they would if they were rowing, or deadlifting inside the rack rather than having to load the plates and turn the bar which seems like it's more work setting it up.

Yeah, that would also help with using the leg roller to hold down the feet for Nordic ham curls, too.

Great review as always and a good demonstration of the uses. I have a lat/low row but I feel like to get the most out of the utility seat I'd need spotter arms and I only have straps, so $600 all-in is a hard pill to swallow atm. Maybe give me 6 months and I'll justify it as a computer desk for my home office. 😅

Good idea with chains. I need to get some to make leg extensions and curls easier to set up. With the Ares, I do my leg curls on my bench with a blue pad for my leg to be on top of for comfort. I attach each leg individually to the two low row connections. I would do the same for leg extensions so I can do them individually at the same time. Right now I do standing leg extensions and have to do each leg individually. It is also a pain connecting my leg anklet to the pulley connection that is high enough to make standing extensions work. The utility seat would have two main uses with me as it can be used for seal rows and leg extensions mainly. still waiting to see if Rep Fitness develops a leg extension / leg curl for the Black Wing bench I have on order. That would be perfect!

I ordered mine about a month ago for my Rogue RM4. It fits well with the adapters that came with the seat. Still a little wobbly but the thing is a tank. I’d agree about the 3M tape for the bottom of the seat. That was not well thought out and should have been pre-installed by Rep. maybe also add some one inch holes all around the bench to make it a little more versatile for some band work or adding handles later. Regardless, I’m happy with the seat and pad.

I guess one could get a long length of chain from Home Depot and lean on the seat (placed above waist level) facing the weight stack and using ankle cuffs, swing the legs back. Length of chain would need to create a little tension in the legs down position.

Back with another question :) Every time I perform leg extension, once I am done with my set, it's quite hard to unhook the cable from my ankle strap, change weight, reattach cable to strap while repositioning myself. I noticed you are extending the cable with some sort of attachment and chain in the middle which then attaches to your ankle straps. Can you tell me what kind of bridging attachment that is? I guess by doing so, you don't have to worry about the weight slamming hard when you release them and also don't have to sweat too much when reattaching and positioning yourself. The extension is helping as you are seated away from the pulley.
@twistedbarbell3950
@twistedbarbell3950 11 ай бұрын
So the main chain as about 20" or so and I have the carabiner on the closest end attached to a smaller section of chain (~ 6 links or so). I connect it at the middle so that 3 or so links can extend to each ankle cuff carabiner. Also, I keep the pins at the back hole of my spotter arms, slide the seat back until it hits the pins, hook myself up to the chains, step forward, slide the seat up to the front uprights, sit and move the pins forward to just behind the utility seat. From there I can extend my feet out with a slight slide of the seat until it's stopped by the pins behind it and complete my set. When done, I remove pins and place them beside me, push seat back, bend down and unhook myself. I typically do not change weight, but if I have to, I can typically stretch back to reposition the pin where I need it. Hope that helps.
