latinos live in europe, you're thinking of latinamericans
@TheMeditorEditor
@TheMeditorEditor 2 жыл бұрын
@@larrote6467 Uh no sir. Well I mean yeah, "latin americans," but no "Latino" literally only refers to those born or are descended from Latin America (South & Central America and the Spanish speaking Caribbean countries). Yes, this indeed includes Brazilians and those from Guyana (French Guyana is different since they belong to France so they are both French Guyanans and French). I think you're confusing it with "Hispanic," which means "from / descended from Spain," literally the same way "Anglo-" means "from / descended from England" (example: Anglo-Indian = someone of Indian descent who is also English or from an English occupied India / parents, therefore might have a British accent). Some or all modern Filipinos can be considered Hispanic as the Spanish conquered the Philippines prior to the Spanish-American War of 1911; Tagalog is literally an amalgam of Spanish and native Filipino (example: "comusta" is Filipino for "how are you?" If you're a Spanish speaking person, you might be able to decipher it's meaning since it's a compressed form of "como estas?" which is the literal Spanish translation of "how are you?"). Hispanic and Latino often are used interchangeably but rarely encompass everything. Here's a good rule of thumb: with the exception of Brazilians and Guyanans, all Latinos are Hispanic, but not all Hispanic are Latinos; Spanish descent individuals in Europe or even those from Spain themselves are Hispanic.
@cc1k435
@cc1k435 2 жыл бұрын
Where did the term originate? It was just suddenly around, and I had no idea where it started. I am enough of a Spanish speaker to be kind of irked by it myself and to know it wasn't going to take off. 🙄
@TheMeditorEditor
@TheMeditorEditor 2 жыл бұрын
@@cc1k435 I saw some comment saying that it spawned in the 90s but it hasn’t become popular parlance till the last 7 months. Particularly, in fact exclusively, among Americans. As for where, who knows. As with a lot of slang it’s origins can’t be precisely be determined. And I’m sure that it’s original intentions were noble. It’s just been commandeered and all of us native Latinos are left wondering “so your solution is to fix our language for us?” Of course, assuming the language needs fixing. Language evolves, sure, but that takes time to naturally adjust to where most of not all speakers become acclimated to it. It’s sudden awakening has done nothing but oppose the very thing they built. You’d think with it 1.3 billion Latinos it took a handful of Americans who probably are Latin descent but who were not taught proper Spanish grammar to find a “fix” to a problem now and not in the past 30 years, let alone 3.

We've spent millions of years identifying sexual partners and reproducing with each other. Evolution has made us really good at knowing what gender someone is. If someone comes up to me and asks what my gender is, I will respond, "call me by what I look like. It's obvious."

And we fought Russia off. We are now in Nato, and in EU. Please don't ever say that there's no point in resistence and fighting back. You don't know people's spirit. Everyone of us in Europe will do and give everything that we can to help Ukraine to beat Russia. Instead of questioning if we should fight, please share information how the world can support Ukraine and help them to fight Russia off. Hugs! :)

There are way bigger problem that affect the community but a lot of latinos said no. They say what's the problem and latinos say NO. that's it. I am happy I was raised to be proud of my heritage and to never lose our primary language. I am perfectly bilingual and very thankful that my family raised me this way. We were also raised to be thankful for the United States and patriotic. I hate the "I'm offended" culture we now live in. It tears us apart. No one can laugh anymore. I am certainly not Latina. I am not Mexican, I am not Salvadorian, I am not Peruvian, Columbian, Venezualan, Puerto Rican. Every one of the people from these countries (and more) have only 1 thing in common. We all speak spanish and are from Spanish descent. -Is an (U.S.) American the same as a Scotsman? New Zealander? Australian? So. African? And what's this the whole "White" thing? What is that? How many ETHNICITIES are white caucasian? Latina/Latino is not a race! Spanish speakers are now clumped together as a race? Like comparing Apples & Oranges? As the comedian Gabriel Iglesias said, "Cubans come in all the colors of the rainbow". Yes, we do have different races yet has never been an issue. We are Cuban. And calling each other "mi negra" or "mi negro" or "oye, negro" is a term of endearment not of offense. - What the heck is wrong with this country now? Can everyone just drop the race identity card? Embrace your heritage yes! Its what makes this country awesome! We are a mix of Cultures. Instead of "Asians" we have Koreans, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indonesians, Japanese, etc.. All different. And oh my gosh, don't get me started on "Black" or "African-American" - Tell me what is the same between a Nigerian and an Ethiopian apart from the color of their skin? Can we start appreciating our distinctive Cultures instead of race? Thank You.. off my soap box now.

Consider whether, when you complain about 'people being offended too easily', you are in fact another offended soul, and perhaps the loudest of the offended. Go and watch a clip of a funny comedian and I guarantee you will find in the comments many more people saying "we could never say things nowadays / what has happened to us? / people are so easily offended!" than you will find any comment complaining about offensive material. It's culture-war bullshit teaching us to fear perceived transgressions where none exist to any meaningful extent.

Ruben Gallego is an excellent politician. We need more minds like his in Washington. The point about Latino culture and language is very true. It is much older than America, and it brings a complex and beautiful heritage to our society. America is Latino, Black, Asian, Cuban, catholic, jewish, protestant, and so on. It is a democratic republic. Today is a great opportunity for us all. We can celebrate diversity, or we can fail. We can work together, but America, this opportunity, cannot work if we do it apart.
