Best Mower Deck Non Stick Spray. (Mower Deck Undercoating) Today we are going to be testing mower deck non stick sprays. I have 3 different non stick spray products that we are going to look at in this video. Dupont Non Stick Dry Film, Majic Easy Slip Graphite Spray, and Gunk Mower Deck Spray. I tested each product for 2 acres and we will see the results after about 50 minutes of mowing time. I also tested each product for corrosion resistance to see which products prevents rust the best.

Excellent and thorough test, Sir. I've had the same problem with grass sticking. I have a push mower (so it's relatively easy to continually clean/scrape the underdeck--but I want something that lowers the number of times I have to do it). I tried several sprays, including Gunk and DuPont. I will try the Magic Slip. Thanks again.

Your conclusion is definitely correct. I've had the same mower (and original deck) since 2005. It gets power washed once a year in the fall, then a quick coat of FF and put away for the winter. It has no rust or rot issues. Any of these coatings are just a waste of time and money. Id rather buy a $400 deck every 30 years than waste my time and money coating the thing every other mow.

Great video as always. I suppose the only things you could have done for durability was to do a months worth of mowings after one application as well as mow the grass when wet, as in early in the morning or after a storm. Also, taking note from my neighbors, mow once a month or when the grass gets over the knee high and wonder why your mower gets dull so quickly and huge areas of your lawn dies by the end of the year. In my observation no one tests durability like the negligent and lazy.

Thank you for uploading this video, however from previous experience, I have found NOTHING that can be sprayed on which will eliminate the hassle of keeping the deck clear of clumped damp grass. Fluid Film works great INSIDE car doors and the under carriage as long as you SKIP the under body flush at the local car wash. As for lawn mower decks, it's expensive for the short lived application. I have an MTD 48" mower that's going on 20yrs, the deck has just surface rust, so far. I get under (using a PRO-LIFT jack) and clean the deck after every other mowing job and liberally spray the deck with whatever oil is the cheapest. The only "fix" would be for manufacturers to apply a "Teflon" coating when the machine is built. I am really surprised that the deck on that mega buck JD machine looks much like my $1000 MTD. What really amazes me is that you "high rollers" with the $10000 mowers even put up with this shyt. Why not SKIP all the work and hire professionals (like 'blades of grass') to do the work while you sit and sip on your barley pop. I have NO choice, living in Public Housing, with everything taken care of EXCEPT the 1/4acre of grass AND the snow in the winter. At $300/month contract, its not affordable on a fixed income. Sorry about the rant, I do appreciate these KZfaq DIY videos. I have saved a LOT of money because of the knowledge I have gained through these videos. CHEERS!

I've tried the graphite paint, Slip-Plate, in 2-3 mowings of my 2+ acres it was worn down to bare steel again. They make spray cans of truck bedliner coating, it builds up a much thicker layer and is tough, almost impossible to remove, You need to coat your mower with it and post the results. Pressure washing is really hard on your deck, not sure about your Deere deck but my older IH Cub Cadet decks have the stamped sheetmetal, probably 12 gauge with a 1/4" thick plate for strength and rigidity, guess what happens when water gets between those two pieces, and the Don't get paint between them at the factory. I don't EVER get water around my mower decks. My Cub Cadet TANK LZ54 has the fabricated deck, built like a tank or Battleship, take your pick. I've had it 9 years and mowed my 2+ acres and have NO grass buildup, and never treated it with anything. It's been as close to trouble-free as any machine can be. The solid state LCD tach/hour meter stopped registering the tach function before I was done with the first mowing, but the hour meter works fine, 252 hours on it.

Why the need to clarify gas or electric pressure washer? The only other kind I’m aware of is newer battery operated ones, which would also be electric…🧐 But I agree, it might work better if the under deck was cleaned first. I don’t have a jack and my belt sometimes gets knocked off the various wheels, so I usually just pull the deck to the highest setting and spray everything off with my hose right after I’m done mowing and that’s seemed to work pretty well but I should start adding a corrosion inhibitor at the end of the season at very least.

Testing with dry grass doesn't tell you much at all. You could get better results just spraying with a garden hose after mowing. Install wash ports in each chamber, use quick connects on each port and the garden hose, then with the blades turning connect the hose to the first chamber and let it operate for a few minutes, then proceed to the next chamber, then the last. Turn off the water and let the blades run a couple minutes to air dry the surfaces. Easier than removing the mower deck and tipping it up.
