This was a fantastic tutorial on replacing the battery. I wish I had seen it 6 months ago when I was scouring the internet for a tutorial on how to do this. This is a very common problem and think a lot of people could benefit from this video. Maybe add a hash tag or include "battery replacement" in the title so it is easier to identify the specific repair. Thanks for the upload.

I loved your video, i have a haywire looks exactly like yours, My battery is deak code 12 and i ordered parts and also a chip reset for both the computer and the bills, I feel it will fix my problem also

I had to get a new battery and have it sodered 4 years ago. what a pain. But it works now!It is a Haywire and it pays Quarters

if i can make a suggestion? batteries are prone to leakage. do not solder it back on the board. Instead solder some wires to the + and - of the board and have the battery some where else then the origional place. If a battery starts to leak it could start and eat up the traces on the board. by using wires and another place for the battery (preferably in a place where it can't short and cannot leak on the board (3d print a box for it for example)) if left unattented for a long time... it will only eat up the wire and that is more easy to replace then to clean the board.

You actually were lucky that that battery lasted that long. From the code it was the original 1993 battery. Also that looks to be a 3.6v 1/2 aa lithium cell. Same type as used in the imac(1999) I know this vid is older but you should look into a battery holder perhaps from an old pc or mac that has the same type of battery so that you dont mess with soldering. Oftentimes those batteries leak with time which could destroy the mainboard.

It was fun to hear your excitement once it was working again.

Was removing the chips really necessary? I guess only replacing the battery and pressing the reset white button was all that was needed. Can you confirm?

Thanks for your video. I got the chips and a new battery. Works but the side effect - the clear ram did as promised. I need to figure out how to set it up to payout, and if I put two coins in the numbers show two but the button for play two will not light and then play them. You have to push the single play. So there are some things that are now cleared and would anyone know what pages or key resets I need to go to? to make these changes. It all worked before the battery died. Any help or input on this matter is greatly appreciated.

Very nice video. I was going to do the same with mine but I think it’s just in demo mode or audit mode. It’s a double diamonds 5 reel. The lights are cycling where you put in the players card and where the name of the casino where it came from no longer scrolling across the screen. Do you know how to get it out of demo. Thanks .

You should use a Plastic wedge, that way you won’t damage the board or the chip.

Just a tip; you really should be wearing a ground strap when handling the motherboard; static electricity could spell the end of the chips.

First thing to check in any electronic repair is the power supply then work out from there.

The way IGT soldered the battery to the PCB is absolutely RETARDED. Come on! Perhaps they send out their highly paid battery replacement guy, fly him out for $5,000, labor, parts, time, fly back to office, maybe $10,000 to replace that stupid odd battery. I'm having trouble believing this. It actually looks like a capacitor you're replacing, but don't take my word for it. I've only been in electronics and circuits for 30 years.
