It's the same in Australia, mostly up north where the termites do roids (it's a particularly strong type of treatment compared to the blue tint in the south)

Scott’s has mentioned in a few videos that he wants to build something on every continent. Even though New Zealand is close to Antarctica I’d dare to say that building something with the Perkins brothers is more likely to happen.

TIP. reversing/backing with a trailer. Steering wheel hand placement. The steering wheel is positioned where front wheels are centered. Place one hand at the six o'clock position on the steering wheel with knuckles facing up. As you turn the steering wheel in whichever direction, the direction you're turning is the direction the trailer is moving into. So, you turn the steering wheel towards the left, the trailer is moving towards the left. I hope it makes sense, but trying it will make more sense. I'm just trying to share or help. It's always fun to watch PBB and friends.

Best thing to do when bringing down a chimney like that is to cut horizontally every two layers using a grinder, it won't cut all the way in but should penetrate deep enough so when you belt the bricks the rest of the joint cracks and not the bricks themselves, once you get started you can even just crowbar them apart from there on. Saves a heap of mess. Cheers

7:00 the "pink" wood is just fire retardant treated, we use a lot in hospitals and industrial building regularly in ky atleast

Same here in Wisconsin. Have to use it in certain commercial applications where a burn rating is needed. Coworker calls it barbie board.

They’ve done that before. I have no idea what video it was a part of, but I remember them doing that a few years ago, they went over a brief background of everyone and where they came from, how they ended up working there etc. you probably gotta sift through a bunch of old videos to find it but it’s out there somewhere haha

Next time you take down a chimney, use a small rotary hammer on the mortar. It takes hardly any effort and the bricks stay intact

Reasonably certain the large spray painted message on the trailer is a Korok from Legends of Zelda. They specifically say “Yahaha!” and come out of sparkly places (the star).

The pink framing material in the states is usually fire treated. We usually use it a lot in hospitals and commercial builds that we do here in Massachusetts.

Cool to see the similarities, as im renovating one of the older houses in jasper Alberta, built in 1923. The walls were plastered, vertical lats nailed with those same small nails, then strapping , and 6” barn board with 0 insulation, except for old plumbing which was insulated with horse hair.

A wheelbarrow might have been helpful to truck the chimney bricks out to the dumpster. ; ) It's interesting working on old houses as long as they are'r too big. This reminds me a little of the 1928 bungalow I renovated once. I leaned as I went. LOL All the best guys!

I'll bet those ceiling members are not 20" OC but 19.2" OC. That was an old-school framing method where 8-foot sheet goods spanned five members rather than the traditional six with 16" OCs or four with 24" OCs. Tape measures are still marked for this; look for the red diamonds at multiples of 19.2".

I really enjoy your videos - you know what you're doing, and you all seem to enjoy working together. Plus, the humor. Since the estimated build date of this building is 1910, I keep watching for balloon framing. All I've seen is platform framing, which wasn't prevalent until about 1930. I'm wondering if the owner is off a few years in his estimate of the structure's age.

7:15 that’s definitely a colour coding related to pest treatments. Not so sure about NZ requirements, but I’m sure it related to wood pests like termites or borers. we also colour code our framing timber in Australia as well as give it a numerical rating for weather resistance. For a treated structural framing member being installed below the Tropic of Capricorn, it’s typically painted blue to denote the types of termites it’s resistant to in that region. For structural members installed above the Tropic of Capricorn, they are painted red as they have a different treatment for different species of termites. There are also yellow and orange that I’ve seen appearing in NSW for use in joists and headers. We also have a numerical system for environmental. A h2 would be used for structural framing like a wall, h3 is typically for exposed but elevated like joists or rafters, h4 is for ground contact, h5 is below grade.

For the "pink" colored framing i've unearthed in old homes. We were seeing "Cally" markings on it and if i recall, some redwood framing materials. Used in "Wet Location" areas only. So your "pink" framing, for the shower would make sense. Cool Finds!

Your videos are amazing. Ive learned so much from watching the best educational comedy show ever :). You don't even need to cut the videos in parts, I'm pretty sure we'd all sit and watch a 3hr long video like nothing. Also, my daughter heard J say he was urgent low and came running to ask if you are Type 1 or 2. shes type 1 and gets super happy when find other type 1s. just thought id ask for for. Keep them videos coming guy cuz im finally able to understand all the numbers in the framing square

The "pink" wood was quite common where I lived in Mississippi many years ago. Not certain if it was from a particular supplier or not. Some ancient memory makes me think it was wall studs.

Yeah studs use to come with a pink coating I think it was a treatment to prevent insects from boring in the wood

For the "pink" wood, according to someone in one of Scott Brown Carpentry videos someone said the pink is from a type of treatment for insect/pest like a borer (a type of tiny worm that eats wood and turns it to mushy dust).

If you find pink wood like that in IL, look for a stamp: it's probably fire-treated.

A bit late, don't know if you'll see this, but pro tip to get rid of bricks without falling into one huge block or only dust by breaking them. Take a sds ( rotary hammer) and put a hammer bit( dont know the exact name in english) now you put in in hammer mode and just hit the mortar, the brick will come loose intact in 1 second. It's super fast, effective and you get to keep the brick in one piece!:) Hope this helps

Here is Australia, similar to New Zealand. We have a couple of different timber treatments depending on the use. Almost never would we ever use a timber that hasn’t been treated at all. The pink (NZ) or blue (AUS) is the lowest level treatment, then exterior treated and then ground contact treated

The pink wood is a fire protection painted on every stud. Even Mike Holmes used to spray everything after framing (stud, joist, everything). Scott Brown probably just purchase a "pre-finish stud"😂 Sus is in a game call " Among Us" where a crew in a spaceship need to do "task" but there is a murderer in the crew mate. You need to find the killer and sometimes people are just sus (suspect, suspicious).

Scott Brown says pink is the lowest level of treatment in nz. Basically just for termites. In the states I think it just signifies that it’s a pre cut stud.

Pink was just a common pre-cut stud length rather than 8ft pine boards. Still use them here in Texas.

You guys are awesome, I watch all your videos! If I'm correct you are looking at California red wood which won't rot and was used on wet areas back on the days before membrane or PT lumber. Also before you guys get to the windows, please make sure to have an RRP certified person check for lead because you never know what you will find on them old homes.

The exterior cladding is horizontal boards, but there's no diagonal bracing visible. Surprised the little house stood for over 100 years. It's going to be great when you guys are done!
