In this video I discover the clearance lights are leaking. I believe this is due to a faulty design of the clearance lights, so more repair work is needed than simply replacing the gaskets. www.rv-project.com/repairs/yel...

It looks nice. It is cheap to manufacture. It is easy to assemble at factory. Parts supply is where a lot of money is made. Repair cost income. Those are the major reasons why many many items are the way they are. Designed defects for part replacement and repair. A small leak that can go un-noticed for years that will make bank for repair centers. I know it sounds conspiracrazy but consider, where is the money to be made after you buy something that works forever? Oh also, the DIY market makes a lot of bank too. Thing is most people out there wont put in the extra effort to repair something so that it will take very little (if any) further maintenance. Guys like you are a blessing and a curse to these manufacturers. They get you for the repair/replacement parts but, then you use those parts to fix something to the extent that you no longer need replace/repair parts (at least for a very long time).

I did the same project tonight though I cost cut and didn’t replace the bulbs. All the teardrop markers were leaking. 3 of the 5 bases were cracked internally at the upper most screw mount. This took me about 2.5 hours of total time to cleanup the mold and reseal. I used RV Silicone the expensive stuff. Hopefully it will stop the water leaking into and around the cap. If I have to replace a burned bulb. I’ll order a spare LED replacement. To have in my kit. I’ll know what to do and shouldn’t be too much trouble.

Used your video to attempt a replacement of the five clearance lights same as yours. Big help but while working on the first light.... the bulb stopped burning. Possible short occurred. If so, will it negatively effect the other four lights?

You you should never leave a short on power because it could melt the wiring or have other issues.

I thought I heard silicone is always a bear to remove? No? I just changed out my bulb on the same teardrop clearance light. I too was surprised that all I had to do was unscrew the screw and lift off the lens. No sealant around it. What were they thinking in this design? Good video!

Silicone is not too hard to remove. But if you need help, there is a product called Anti-Bond 2015 that is used in the boating industry that will remove just about any sealant. It is usually available from West Marine.

hope your LED doesn't start flickering like mine do
@RVProject3 жыл бұрын
The LEDs used in these fixtures do not have drivers, they are current limiting resistors. Flickering LEDs are most often the result of a bad switch-mode driver.
