This is one of the new secret endings for The Binding of Isaac: Repentance. I thought it needed to be uploaded somewhere, so why not do it myself?

I wonder about Edmund McMillen's personal growth during this entire decade of developing this game and this story. From humble beginnings as a simple game satirizing religion as a way to create a hook and some humor, to an expansive and detailed look at the damage that dogmatic religion can cause in a young child, to a story of a broken family and a child who feels he's irredeemable, to a heartwarming ending where it's revealed that it's just Isaac's imagination running wild. His family's not perfect, in fact they seem to have their own problems. He probably did hear his parents arguing and his mother might be overzealous in her devotion to religion, but the whole story of him killing himself and ending up in purgatory, it's all just his hyperactive imagination. And the bizarre thing is that, as a religious person myself, I never once felt like the game was ever insulting religion as a whole, or making it out as the bad guy. It's not that Edmund is saying that religion's evil, he's just pointing out that it's not all sunshine and roses, and when taken too far, can really cause issues in a young kid. Makes me wonder if he started from a more cynical place and over time, healed and grew, and used this creative outlet as a means of expressing that. I teared up at this ending. Isaac's going to be ok. :)

I'm sorry but this ending is not cannon sadly,what really happened was that Issac suffocated himself in a chest and the gameplay was only Isaac's imagination,it sucks Issac really deserves a happy cannon ending.

@@epicman4415 I read this from another comment in this video, but this is a cannon happy ending. Isaac may have died, but his last moments was him letting go of his bad past and remembering every good thing he ever had In his last moments, he was happy And in this case, where his fate was already sealed, that is all that matters
@ibs_haver
@ibs_haver 2 жыл бұрын
@@epicman4415 yea this is basically the happiest ending we could've hoped for. In his final moments he feels some shame and regret as the other endings, but also the good things in his life; his cat, the simple comfort that religion once brought him, and his parents' love. He even visualizes it all as a story told by his father as he drifts "to sleep," probably actually his final breaths. Another interpretation could be that Isaac's father is dead as well and they are reuniting in heaven. Dad might be represented by Ultra Greed (who hanged himself) and Dad's Note might be a suicide note that he wrote after learning of Isaac going missing.
@chillpenguin7679
@chillpenguin7679 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't be surprised if Edmund becoming a father had an influence on this final ending. It's beautiful. I love how the ending can be interpreted in different ways, as well. There's no 100% concrete evidence (unless Ed said it himself) as to whether the whole game was just Isaac writing a story with his Dad, or if it's actually Isaac's last dying dream. We've already seen with the Bumbo game just how vivid and imaginative Isaac's worlds and games can be. The mark of a good story is one that sparks conversation and speculation such as this :)
@danieltube6344
@danieltube6344 2 жыл бұрын
@@ibs_haver I’m a fan of the Dad killed himself theory but it’s false. Dad’s note would have to be a suicide note that Isaac had seen to put it into his fantasy world, but that couldn’t be true since dad left and never came back (ending 14; last polaroid shows dad leaving), so Isaac wouldn’t know about the note. It’s a cool theory but not true unfortunately.

The genuine emotional reaction I experienced between ending 21, the ascent and the anxiety of entering home for the first time really made this ending hit home. Even though Isaac is supposed to be dead, I like to imagine that his father got custody and Isaac is now just recanting his traumas over to his father while writing his own story. I know it's inaccurate, but I feel like this is the best ending Isaac could have.

I like this interpretation a lot, I'd like to think our lil guy is happy somewhere too (:
@busted3957
@busted3957 Жыл бұрын
Why is it inaccurate? I mean.. The Legend of Bumbo literally sets up that his dad supported his creativity and played with cardboard boxes with him at some point. Helped create the world that Isaac uses to tell his story in the base game. True, the father's narration in Bumbo was clearly a memory. When mom opens the bedroom door she asks who Isaac is talking to. But in the final ending of Repentance, it's being told using his drawing paper and even gets interrupted by his dad indicating it's not a memory but he's actively participating in Isaac's story time. He even asks if Isaac is getting sleepy yet. Its plausible that Isaac is creating the ENTIRE story based upon his fear of his parents possible divorce.. I know, the other endings aren't on his drawing paper and are "real".. But are they? He REALLY turns into a demon in the trunk then? I think since the opening of the game and the final ending are on drawing paper with his father narrating both.. That bookends the entire thing as a story being drawn by Isaac and his dad interpreting the drawings in a more articulate way than a child could ever tell a story. Isaac draws and his dad narrates the story that the drawings tell. It's a joint bedtime story.. One that his dad deems too sad to end on.. "How about we tell it, a different way?"

To answer the questions here, it's "inaccurate" because Edmund said that this ending is still the final thoughts from Isaac dying in the chest, albeit seemingly going to Heaven for all the trouble he went through. Admittedly I take a very DotA stance on this and think the whole story was a weird bedtime thing.

“Then suddenly, the sky above cracked open, and a white beam of light reached down into the Earth, smiting the mother of harlets asunder, and setting the blood lake to a boil. As the beast descended down into the lake of fire, Isaac ascended toward the crack in the sky, and as he flew, he could see echos of his past before him! He saw his mother mourning the loss of her son. He saw his father leaving them without turning to say goodbye. He saw his mother sleeping, and his father taking money from her purse. He heard the late night fights they had that kept him up at night, and the guilt for what he believed he was causing. He felt the pain in his stomach during those sleepless nights, and saw his shadow in the closet waiting for him. As he rose, he felt his fears drop from his body… his shame, his worry, pulled from his being. As he became lighter, his ascent became faster. He saw his one true companion, alive and well. He saw his mother and father together again, holding each other. He felt his mother kissing him on the head after he had said his prayers, and the comfort in knowing someone was watching over him. He saw his own birth, and the faces of his parents, filled with joy and optimism. And then, he saw nothing…”

All the hiding in tight spaces, perceiving her as some horrible monster, imagining the idea of running away from her or never being found and suffocating in his chest. To me the idea of this being isaac's story means it was his way of processing all of that with his dad (given that mom is notably absent here)

Just the fact that alone was removed from live alone in a small house. It took me a second time watching the ending to notice he says his parents, Just made my heart stop I didn't care anymore about the 100s of runs it took me to get to dogma let alone beat the beast. It showed why we are all playing this game. For isaac! I may be the only one that hates delirium not because he's a bs boss that's too hard, no. I despise delirium for what he represents. All I ever wanted was for isaac to have his happy ending, and for so long all we had was delirium. Isaac last seconds of life dragged out into an eternity of suffering and cling for life. Whenever that cursed delirium card was drawn during four souls as I waited for repentance all I could do was hope that our little isaac's suffering would come to end. our wonderful little boy isaac deserves better. I think I speak for all isaac fans when I say thank you to McMillan and everyone who worked on repentance for giving isaac the ending he deserved. A perfect ending to show why we always come back. No matter how many sleepless nights, thrown and broken controllers and keyboards. Runs of nothing but the worst paired items... we always come back and keep fighting to get isaac just a little closer to the happy ever after he deserves.
