The PCV Valve in a car prevents oil leaks in your car. Replacing it could save you the headache of having to deal with a possible seized engine. Think of it like cheap insurance. 4 bucks at carquest = one starbucks coffee drink. you decide.

Had Auto Zone give me a code reading for my check engine light, the code to replace the PCV Valve popped. $2.15 after tax for a new valve and I just had to look up how to change it. I appreciate your video - weather permitting, I'll be changing it later today or sometime tomorrow. Thank you for making this video - replacement appears to be easy.

I just did one on my 02 f150 and I paid $3.75 at auto zone. They know more about cars and trucks then anyone.

Just a heads up, The vacuum line on my 2001 expedition melted and broke 3 inches from the pcv. :/

I started getting the "P0174: Lean Sensor Bank 2" code on my 1999 Ford Expedition 4.6L XLT (177K Miles) after zero codes the entire spring/summer. I wasn't able to drive more than a block before it would re-appear so we changed the O2 Sensors for Bank 2 (Drivers Side Back/Front). That got rid of the code for about 2 weeks. I started getting the same P0174 code again and have been trying to pinpoint it, since the O2 Sensors didn't do it I went to AutoZone and grabbed this PCV Valve Part # PCV1183DL... Same as one in video as they said they didn't have any "PCV397" available but this was it. It was an easy replacement, I drove around for a bit but not long enough to see if the code will re-appear, I'm crossing my fingers this helps... I have a bad feeling it's something else as I do not get the common P0171 Code (Lean Sensor Bank 1) code as both codes generally appear together... so process of elimination. If this does not do the trick I'll move onto the MAF Sensor, EGR Valve, etc.. Really want to get a smoke test done. But I could tell this new valve was in better shape, not only that but it's metal and not 100% plastic like the original... Lets hope it works!

Same problem. And bucking under pressure. I've changed fule pump, fuel filter, air filter, all plugs & COPs, coils, etc with no change.

I wish you could help me right now - went to AutoZone today and received a code to replace the PCV valve but before goinf hime I had HAD to make a run to the supermarket and of course on my way home the car wouldn't switch into gear so now Im sitting here stuck. And your video looks so easy but ni shop around to even get a pcv valve. Sitting here wanting advice and not wanting to call a tow truck.

*BUT HOW DO YOU REPLACE THE ELBOW HOSE OF IT GOING INTO THE INTAKE?!* mine blew up tried getting it out then it broke in two *now the rest of it is stuck on there and since its literally the back of the engine I have no room to pull the rest off.*

Try cutting it off with a box cutter that has a long handle

How do you know it need replacement? They both sounded the same when you shook them.

The test is to see if the plunger freely moves inside by gently shaking it. His was fine. Also, a bad PCV won't cause your engine to seize, that's nonsense.

@@anticapitalize actually a bad pcv valve causes excessive oil consumption and if you don’t keep up with your vehicle and check the oil yeah it could seize from low oil levels

I quite Twitter before Elon Musk got started on his X signature hog movement. Did he really buyout COCA COLA? Uh, driver side PCV Valve stuck in engine 2001 ford expedition 4.6L clamp pliers will not work to insert inside black plastic tube of PCV Valve to yank it out. What do I need to extract that PCV Valve? I am afraid it is going to break off cause it will not even rotate, maybe I need some hot steam applied to help to loosen it up. HELP ME IF YOU CAN.

No you don’t need to unhook battery just leave your car off.

If it will make you more comfortable doing it, go for it. It is optional, and I did not do it prior to this.

I have an 04 Expedition with around 200k miles. I'm thinking it might be a leak in the PCV hose. I'm worried that if I replace just the valve, me moving the hose around will have made the leak worse and the valve replacement will be pointless.

I would either go to a junkyard if a new hose is too expensive or just bite the bullet and go. If the crack isn't near where you have to wiggle it out, it is unlikely that the crack will widen.

It can because when I replaced mine (2000 Ford Expedition) the vehicle wanted like to shut down itself and not run right and not having power. I adjusted the pcv and everything was fine again.

Why is it everyone of these videos shows a setup that looks different than mine? I have an 03 Expedition and my PCV valve has a clip on it, that loops another hose around it. I still managed to replace the valve, but it was a bit more tricky than the video shows.

Perhaps the car has been fiddled with in the past. 14 years of service could have, at one point, called for a replacement of lines etcetera. also, the engine showed in the video is a 4.6 2v and you may have the 5.4...

Yeah I have a clip to does it unclip by pulling it do I have to some special ford PCV line tool
