Good video brother. Forgive my ignorance, but does that open primary give you any concern when it comes to possibly catching a pant leg? May be a stupid question....just wondering. (Looks cool as hell).

I AM RELUCTANT BECAUSE OF THE FACTORY CRIMPS ON THE GAS LINES, BUT YOUR RIGHT. PERFECT TIME TO CHANGE THEM BOTH. AND FOR ME? ALSO INSTALL THE PETCOCK WITH VACUUM LINE

Killer Diller video. Thanks for posting. Why not replace it with a OEM part?

It is easier for me to get aftermarket parts from a local shop that is closer than a dealership.

Great video. I have an 05 Sportster with a vented petcock. So you’re saying you can just change it to the other type? Please let me know if I’m understanding that correctly. Thank you

I’M HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE INBA WAY. I BOUGHT THE SAME PETCOCK HE HAS. NO VACUUM LINE SO I CALLED HARLEY DAVIDSON. I PAID WAY MORE. 140.00 FROM HARLEY COMPARED TO 22.00 FROM AMAZON. I AM VERY HAPPY I SEEN YOU COMMENT. THIS VIDEO WAS VERY INFORMATIVE, BUT I WILL BE INSTALLING THE PETCOCK WITH THE VACUUM.

I THINK IT NEEDS THE VACUUM LINE HOOKED UP. I NEVER INSTALLED THE ONE FROM AMAZON MYSELF. BUT IF YOUR BIKE WAS RUNNING GOOD BEFORE THEN MAYBE YOU’LL HAVE TO ADJUST YOUR CARB, OR BUY THE ONE FROM HARLEY.

Is there any disadvantage to gravity fed petcock? I was planning to try to find another vacuum operated one, but I have a gravity fed one available. Thanks!

Not that I know of. They are easier to find. I don't think Harley makes the vacuum ones anymore.

@@a.l.o.t5262 Just wanted to follow up to say thanks for the vid. It, along with comments, was super helpful in switching out the petcock. I removed the petcock branch from the vacuum line, cleaned the tank, put the new petcock in there, rebuilt the carb, changed fluids, slapped in a new battery, and now she’s running like new, after years of storage. :)

The vaccum type doesn't require you to turn the petcock off every time the bike is shut off, so gravity fed does require you to turn off the petcock to prevent gas from filling up your engine.

@@a.l.o.t5262 Thank you for the Timely answer! I may have to check other reasons ie: water in the fuel or I'm running a Pringle petcock with 3/8 hose compared to the stock 1/4" line. I'm leaning towards the water/fuel problem. At any rate thanks again!!

Do you happen to know if you need to prime a new inline fuel filter before installation? I didn’t think about it before installing a gravity petcock and the filter but the flow through the filter seems pretty weak and I don’t think I’m getting the proper fuel flow.
@a.l.o.t5262
@a.l.o.t5262 2 жыл бұрын
No they don't need to be primed. If the flow is weak there could be a restriction somewhere. Some fuel filters are directional and should have an arrow indicating direction of flow.

@@a.l.o.t5262 Thanks. It is oriented the right way. It should be full of fuel if it’s working properly rather than mostly air inside right?

A old school Harley machanic once told me the paper filters aren't made for gravity feed. That I should use some type of screen. He told me the fuel filters with the yellowish-orange paper filter is made for a fuel pump to push the fuel through. Gravity will not let it flow through like it should and when you doing 70 or 80 it will cut out. Because enough fuel is not flowing through it.

@@trevorhalford8410 I would not think you would need an inline filter if there is one in the tank connected to the pet cock

Really no reason to remove the seat or raise the tank…. Drain it with a long neck funnel, that way you know it’s empty… Lightly lubricate the new threads that are REVERSE threaded. FINGER-start the new petcock the TIGHTEN USING 2 wrenches lightly so you don’t cross thread….. This is how you fix it on the side of the road- Nothing breaks AT HOME. Have fun….
