Excellent video. How much of this could be avoided by using better lube? I imagine the lubrication dept is a man with a bamboo stick hitting the workers if they use too much. It makes you want to strip yours down just to relube, but warranties.. British manufacturers are no better human resources wise, im a machinist, in sure managers go to the Khmer Rouge school of slavedriving

Honestly, you don't need to cake it on, nylon gears need minimal lube, cleaning and regreasing every 3000 miles is probably your best option. Quality silicone lube

Those shims seem really important as ive put my motor back in and it doesn't move or is really stiff, im assuming that is because its catching, i just don't remember seeing any shimms hmmm , bearings seem ok . If i loosen the srews to the housing it turns so im assuming its touching without the shimms . Looking on line amd carnt seem to buy anything specific..any suggestions?

Stay with nylon unless running crazy high power, then the gears wear out not the motor components themselves

I have a apais a6 cargo bike and took it out in the rain. I now have loud grinding sound and sometimes delay in motor when breaking and pedaling/throttle again. Its intermittent like 1-2 minutes on my 9 mile commute. What do you suggest I do? deal with it, open it up and clean out and regrease? It only has 230miles on it.

@Ebike Repairs Question for you... if I installed the new planetary gear part without using dielectric grease, how bad is that? Have I drastically shortened the life of the new planetary gears? A tiny bottle of dielectric grease here in Toronto is $16 for a tiny tiny bottle.... so I basically wondered if it was just cheaper to install new planetary gears each time instead of spending the additional money on the grease each time as well. What do you think? (Was also worried to use grease at all because unlike the top of your motor, mine has three holes that allow you to see into the internals of the motor. Though I understand this is the reason why you specifically need 'dielectric' grease)

Just a spoon full is enough, but it really does want some! Try ordering from eBay or similar

The gears on mine are fine, but are in contact with the alloy casing there @8.21secs and causing resistance when pulling the bike backwards, and also making a noise when under load? Any ideas on how to cure that?
@EbikeRepairs10 ай бұрын
I'm not sure, sometimes there are shims or washers or lock rings in place, if someone opened your motor up before and lost them, it might explain it!

@@EbikeRepairs Yes, I had a hall sensor replaced, took it back to him and he's shimmed it out, but the reason I took it back is because it makes a grating noise when the thumb throttle is applied. As the speed pocks up, the grating dies off, seems like the clutch?

Nylon, cheaper to replace the gears than the whole motor so they wear out instead of the expensive parts.
@rustlingbushes767827 күн бұрын
@@EbikeRepairs, Everything breaks, given enough time. Would the cost of replacing planetary gears over time be cheaper than the entire motor seizing? For example, with steel gears the motor would arguably be able to handle torque longer without failing, and the cheaper parts are more wasteful having to be replaced more often, correct? Wouldn't it be better to have steel gears that don't break as often?
@sandieguitoadult13 күн бұрын
@@rustlingbushes7678 Nope. The cost of the motor is much higher than the labour cost to take it apart, put in new and seal it up.
