Neutral safety switch on a c10 from 1967-1972. Had to replace switch was malfunctioning wont send signal to backup lights when transmission was in reverse

Initial tests are kind of moot if you are going to test the switch in-place also. Using the term "somewhere" during positioning the tab is not a valid confirmation the switch is good. When folks with no experience see this it could be misleading. Also, for a beginner, it may be important to observe where the position the tab is when the old switch is removed so they ensure the new one is at the same physical position during reassembly and not to change the gear when swapping the switches. Otherwise its still a great video.

Yes I know and these trucks do draw a lot of attention but I'm not driving her yet I'm working on the exhaust but I dont know what route I'm gonna do out the back or out the sides

Can I test the nss before replacing it. My backup lights won’t light up. Everything else does. Is there a way Can I test the switch before taking it apart to see if that’s what it is?

@@HugoMartinez-wf9mn- Column or floor shift or Automatic ? My column shift barely catches the (edit- reverse light) switch and has broke a few of them over the years. You need to take it off the column to tell too.

Question for you. Does the neutral safety switch have positions for park, neutral, drive, drive 2 and drive 1 like for a th350 tranny? I ask because I have a 71 but the column when detached from the linkage will not go all the way to the park position on the column unless I force it. Either way the truck wont start and when I try and move the column shifter to a position where it will start it seems to be in between park and reverse on the column. assuming either my neutral safety switch is bad and misaligned.

Haven't tested the switch yet, but the symptoms are that the truck starts in neutral but not in park. Any ideas? Bad switch or potentially something else?

I had to adjust my switch you can slide it till you get right so when your in park and neutral lines up with your transmission, have you checked if when you put it in reverse do your reverse lights turn up when I first replaced my switch I would put it in neutral and my reverse lights would turn on so I put the shift lever in reverse and adjusted the switch till the lights turn on

I’m having the same issue on my C10. Will start in Neutral but not in park. Were you able to fix your situation? If so, what did you do?

So I’ve got a 68 c10. And I’m having problems because of the neutral safety switch but I checked and it is completely missing 😅 and I don’t know where the wires are
