It is time to start replacing the upper rail and apron that was damaged in the accident on the Explorer. It looked pretty bad but this repair is actually pretty easy. I'll get the radiator support ready to go back in a soon as the painting gnomes have finished.

@@vehcor No, I was a ford fan for decades but not now. They just lost yet another class action lawsuit over the 6.0L diesels. One guy opted out and sued them and won $740,000.00. $290,000.00 for actual damages and the rest for punitive. Ford: where quality is job none!

You do very good... no... great work!!! Thank you for another great video! It was nice to see a "painting Gnome". :-) I really enjoy the fact you do the little extra steps of painting things properly the manufacturer missed or doesn't paint, the cavity wax applications ... that will make the vehicle more durable and longer lasting for someone!

Ford Rebuild Friday....I got inspired at the 14:12 mark. Went and did some much need maintenance on the E350 Super Duty. Battery terminals were pretty corroded. Cleaned them up, added felt spacers and plenty of terminal grease. New wiper blades, winter is coming....eventually....maybe, you never really know here in California. Topped off the fluids and gave her a bath. So now, back to watching to see what kind of trouble Mr. Spotty gets into.

Are you really this conscientious with every rebuild? I have a rebuilt 2008 Equinox LTZ AWD 3.4l which I purchased 6 yrs ago. Pretty satisfied except I had to do quite a bit of rust improvement underneath but the mechanical and electronics have worked very well for me. The work is not perfect but it's good enough. I don't think I would buy another rebuild but mostly it's my personal experience with many workers in my area which is Miami, FL. I do maintain my vehicles boy the book myselfo. Thanks for a very good video. So much information for free; it's pretty amazing people like you take the trouble to share. Very grateful.

I still marvel at how a plastic tank on a metal radiator will last without leaking longer than the metal tanks on metal radiators did years ago. I am also amazed that an automobile will be sitting a -15F and you start a car up and when the thermostat opens sending 190F water on to the the plastic it doesn't burst the first time and indeed lasts often for 20+ years. They sure don't make them like they used to because when I started buy new cars back in 1968 if you got 100K miles on one it was indeed a good one if you got 150K it was great. Now you see them with 250K and they are still running fine and if you don't live in the salty north the bodies will last almost as long as the engines unless it is a 3.6 Chevy and then the body will outlast the engine even in the salty north.
@bigpjohnson
@bigpjohnson 3 жыл бұрын
The 80s and 90s brought incredible leaps in rubbers and plastics, making engine seals, belts, hoses, radiators, and other parts last ridiculously longer than before. Belts and hoses used to be major sources of breakdowns, now hoses last virtually forever. I usually get around 10 years and 150-200K out of radiators before they leak at a seam or crack an end tank.
@ShainAndrews
@ShainAndrews 3 жыл бұрын
Every plastic tank radiator I've had was replaced at 100k mile intervals. Didn't matter what manufacture around 100k it leaks at the inlet. Only full metal radiator I've ever replaced was because the previous owner didn't believe in coolant changes.

Outstanding video! You are a true craftsman and a credit to your trade! I fear what will happen when our generation dies out. Who will be left to do work like this? So much of the younger generation doesn't want to learn a trade, doesn't want to work and wants everything given to them while living in their parents basement. Let's hope there are enough responsible younger people left who will follow in your footsteps.

They’d really flip out if you used a carpenter’s claw hammer. Don’t worry about the flimsy clips, automakers will eventually fasten everything with glue, all you’ll need in your tool box will be a hot air gun and a putty knife. I first learned about spring clamps when one let go on my fingers while removing a lower radiator hose on a Honda CRV, ask me how I know.

@@vehcor never had them attack me yet, have though however learnt to swear while trying to remove them. Those ones were taught how to fly. One thing I've started doing, I blame you for it🤣. Is ice started looking though damaged vehicle auctions and pondering if they can be salvaged. I'd love to give it a go, your videos make it look doable. Cheers

Or... Slightly weak strut tower/apron welds could be part of the way the crash protection works, i.e. parts that are meant the break off easier as part of the controlled deformation that is the 'crush' area that is used to absorb forces in an impact. Better for the impact forces to use their energy ripping off a weld than the forces coming into the cabin area so you make the welds deliberately weak . This sort of thing has to be considered when rebuilding.
