probably a demagnetize cassette was used in it the head is also very sensitive to static charge and strong magnetism. 00000000 In case anyone wants to know how to test the head, Hold in the STOP AND PLAY button while the player is OFF (with a prerecorded DCC already insert.) And THEN TURN ON the power to come in the service mode If you then press play, 8 zeros should appear, sometimes 1 or occasionally a 1 may flash, that track may be dirty and therefore occasionally give a dropout but is not immediately audible in the music because the DCC player can correct some dropouts, but a little careful cleaning is recommended

I ended up going down the minidisc route, I have since divested myself of them after my last player broke. I always really wanted a DCC, part of me still wants one but not sure I can justify buying one as like many things prices have gone up alot and they are not that common in the UK.

Great vid as always. Where did you get all the spare heads from? Seems rare.

We will explain in the next video but we received them as a surprise gift during the premiere of the documentary.

Really that is a nice tease .....and how much would they sell for? Too bad that someone could not re-produce these again. But I guess that goes for all old electronic devices with their ICs and heads.

Did you know what was wrong with the old head? Was it shorted? Someone tried to demagnetize it?

With a great big sticker saying Do Not Demagnetise, you would hope not, but you never know.

It is usually one of both as people still demagnetize it as a last resort. Often the leaking caps destroy them as well as they shorten other circuits.

I have the Philips 730 and when I play my DCC tapes in there, it plays but the sound is choppy then it says clean head. I’ve clean the head many times but still does the same choppy audio then no sound 🤔

Hi. I would like to get my DD82 going again as its not worked since 1999/2000 (bought mine in 1996) The Bitstream DAC7 (the best dac ever compared to 24bit. My Marantz CD94 sounded nice with DAC7) was working fine the last time i used it but ive not powered it up for at least 11yrs. Do you have a list for the required caps for the R/W caps board, or can i send it to you to fix. Im in UK. Cheers.

Does this unit have a belt to open and close the door.

Actually 2. They are on the right hand side of the mechanism.

Would that be a reason why the mechanism door would not open. 1 or both of these belts have stretched or have broken over time. Another great video by the way.

@@johnbateman4255 That could very well be. We also see that the metal cross bar on top is sometimes preventing the drawer to open. Check if this is working correctly.
