Don’t let the comments stop you bro keep going these haters want to do the job on their own but want a perfect play by play if they want to watch someone’s every move pay the mechanic to watch him. Great video bro, replaced the oil pan gasket twice, first time didn’t seal right. Second time all good but still leaking oil dripping on the bottom of trans. Probably rear main seal oh well fun weekend project. Thanks for the video bro

13:45 I replaced my driver side CV shaft over this last weekend and it was a disaster too. The pickle fork destroyed my lower ball joint boot and I replaced it. I probably should’ve swapped only the boot, But I had it pressed out and a new one in.

Seven and a half minutes into a 24-minute video and he still hasn't started working on the car. I give up. (I did hear his entire philosophy of life, though, so there's that I guess.)

Dude!!! Thank-You!!! No sarcasm. This helps me out so much on how I edit videos. I rewatched the video after this comment. And I agree with you. I could have trimmed a lot of the extra content off. I going to figure it out.

I don't mind the 7.5 min monologue/philosophy intro 😁 B/c it humanized this whole miserable process of changing a rear main seal / machines ruling over our lives.

KZfaq comments bring out the absolute worst in people. You do realize that you're just sharing your *opinion* right? You can share that *opinion* without being an asshole to the guy who spent his own time, money, and energy making a video to benefit YOU. Grow up dude.

What would the cost to have a shop replace the rear main seal on my 99 Honda Civic?
@RocketGarageService2 жыл бұрын
Not sure, didn’t want to find out
@Franknpipe2 жыл бұрын
Tire places will do it for $500. Honda dealers charge upwards of $1300.
@Vale-ql6wm Жыл бұрын
@@Franknpipe Firestone just told me $800. Guess I should start looking around if I can save 300+!
@Franknpipe Жыл бұрын
@@Vale-ql6wm but $500 was before hyper inflation. & Honda dealers are now charging $1500+, unfortunately. I ended up doing it myself, with a lot of help from a mechanic friend. Changed out the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, torque converter seal, and both oil seals on the transmission where the CV axles go in. My '00 Civic is running great now.

Was your oil pooling on the bottom of transmission? I think my car has a leaky main seal ('97 Civic) and a leaky oil pan. The car has 395k miles (I bought it new). It seems like I could have a shop do the main seal and oil pan replacement at once. It's too advanced for me now.

Question, r u suppose to make the seal flush or all the way in
@RocketGarageService2 жыл бұрын
I did it flush with the metal plate it was installed in. Just really paid attention to the way it was installed before removing it.

I have a 2000 Civic ex with 182,000 miles. It’s my daily driver. The rear main seal is starting to leak. My independent Honda mechanic said $1,200 to do the work by dropping the transmission and using Honda parts. Does this seem reasonable and is it worth fixing?
@RocketGarageService Жыл бұрын
IDK man, I couldn't pay that much. But I get it, probably fair, paying someone else. It is a good bit of work.
@TheRGFury Жыл бұрын
Its in the right ballpark for a licensed shop. I had a recent quote for $900cad including a clutch replacement and its about the same amount of work. Now my car is in pieces and im looking at rear main videos because i think i just found mine leaking while i was in there too
@JeffreyBliss04 Жыл бұрын
Did it smoke from the exhaust?

No, just leaked a lot of oil.

If the main seal leaking does it affect the tranny like slip gear ? My has leak but doesn’t slip so I wonder if just the pan tho I did like 2 times .I look inside the torques converter n there’s no leak there too so I’m not sure
@RocketGarageService11 ай бұрын
Sounds like an automatic transmission. The leak would not effect the transmission.
@Emperor_197111 ай бұрын
@@RocketGarageService yes it’s automatic so even if main seal leak won’t cause tranny slip then .I’m not 100 % sure it’s the main seal too at this point but thanks

@@ptitheprodigy on the ground it’s by the torque converter n oil pan side but I crawl under n wipe everything clean I can’t tell honestly n I look under the flex plate it’s dry in there too so I really not 100% I just been adding oil 2-3 week or so
@ptitheprodigy7 ай бұрын
@@Emperor_1971 thanks. I had an oil pan leak but I saw oil was leaking between the toil pan and where the trans was and it was dripping down to the bottom of the trans. Seems. To be the same area from what your saying. Oh well guess another weekend project 🙏

How do you tell if it’s the main seal leaking , I look in the tranny side where the flywheel is at n I don’t see any oil coming from that area I know my oil pan is leaking as well tho I change it out 2 times for sone reason it’s still leaking so idk if I should do a oil pan the 3rd time. How would you tell it’s the main seal ?
@DIYKAI Жыл бұрын
@@Emperor_1971 a few ways to tell...one is the clutch slipping? the second way is to raise the car and clean everything very good then run the car while on the stands grab a beer and watch......if no slipping or you don't see oil behind the flywheel than its probably the pan gasket did you use some sealant on the area that require it?
@Emperor_1971 Жыл бұрын
@@DIYKAI thanks for the replied , my bad my is automatic I meant the flex plate I didn’t see oil around that area but yes I use sealant around that area n out nuts n bolts in the order as well maybe I’ll just get a new oil pan , nuts n bolts . The tranny doesn’t slip n drive normally . I’m clean it all out n lay under n see .the leak is not big but it’s leaking n I have to keep adding every now n then just to be safe

How come you had to pull the seal cover and just not the seal in the cover???? Anyone know the answer to that
@slylockfox855 ай бұрын
In case you were still wondering, there is liquid gasket that goes between the plate and engine. It deteriorates over time. I've seen some people say that sometimes oil is leaking worse from around the plate than the rear main seal itself. If you only change the rear main seal, the is the possibility that the liquid gasket between the plate and the engine is bad and that it will still leak.
