No Cup with Johansen as 2C for Avalanche; It had to be done. Can't keep wasting MacKinnon's prime years...

Amazing how Torts is usually correct on spotting players who won’t reach their full potential. He isn’t afraid to single them out.

I’m pretty sure he is making 8 mil a year. Nashville is still paying $4 a year. I imagine he’ll be the highest paid player in the AHL.

Just a look at the streak and how it would have to end at some point, I imagine. He's got points in every home game this year so far. So likely being a wings fan he made a biased gut feeling call.

Man, this would make sense. I'm an Avalanche fan, and everyone was talking about Mikko because he wasn't putting up points. I never kept up to date, though, with that comment. It kind of makes sense, though he was supposed to be a 2C and was a 4C on his way out. For that much money on the bottom line. It's kind of embarrassing.

Adrian Dater might not be the most reliable source. That being said, I now know why Devon Toews, of all people, said that. He's one of the nicest players on the team, so for him to call out guys shows something was wrong.
@ericksonjustinAK
@ericksonjustinAK 2 ай бұрын
But things turned around after that. But they still have issues on the road.. maybe because they are around each other too much on the road... The comments from Toews seemed to be really about systems and some players not being where they are supposed to be and don't want to admit it. That's what I got from it, anyway.

Won’t miss Johansen at all, slowest player I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching and looked lazy on the ice 80% of the time. I feel bad for him immediately being out of the nhl after he was traded but thank goodness he’s far away from a contender now.

I think coachability maybe. He's very physical, lots of effort, and very good, but only at the things he thinks he should be doing I would guess. Nothing real is actually out there though. No sense saying anything if it's true if you are an av anyway now. I didn't think we'd make such a big move, very happy they went after middlestad. I figured they would let RJo try and get it going, and maybe eventually go after a rental 2C in future years. It felt like a legit 2C was asking too much on this roster.

Johanson has never had the inner drive to win. He floated in Columbus, floated in Nashville and floated even worse in Colorado. The talent is there, he usually puts up passable numbers (just not for his contract level), but just really doesn't give a crap.
@hockeyprofit19
@hockeyprofit19 2 ай бұрын
Exactly. Factor in he's way too slow now for this league. Even Trotz said this in the offseason. Johansen was on a podcast before his trade to the Avs and the dude was basically already in retirement mode.

Ive watched every avs game this year . Out of all the games he played in he looked engaged in 4 of those games for a shift or 2 thats it he stands around more than anything. He is not a strong skater hes slow. By the 6th game i could tell this was not gonna work out. Thank god hes gone
@eggstu
@eggstu 2 ай бұрын
I dont mean to pile on RyJo but it wasnt a good fit in Colorado. He isnt a quick skater and also just didnt make much impact on a consistent basis. You cant pay 4M for his level of production and expect to be a contender. He didnt seem to have the outward appearance of being that competitive and that to me was probably a major reason why the Avs locker room got annoyed. I wish him luck wherever he ends up but I love the move by the Avs to recognize the situation and make moves to improve at 2C.

Let me know what you think of My Rangers picking him up on Waivers, if they can afford him, given he can score & since The Rangers didn't really get scorer at the deadline, he'd be Decent as A Bottom 6 Center.

If the fans could see that RyJo was a liability on the ice, you bet his teammates noticed too. They know more about the game than anybody in the stands, and I don't doubt that they were frustrated as hell watching him float in all three zones. It was only half a season, but he is definitely one of my bottom five least favorite Avs players of all time. Lazy player who dragged down his linemates. It's no wonder Tatar started scoring again after he was separated from his wing.

It's only 4mil because half was retained when Col got him. He's making 8, but Col/Philly only had to pay half. 4mil a year commands better performance than 30pts in a season. He's dumb, lazy & cooked.
