I'm planting my new short-leaved Aloe (Aloe brevifolia) in my Desert Rose (Adenium) forest that is styled to resemble the unique landscape of Socotra island.
I'm also greening up the landscape and adding more features to make the composition more realistic.

Wow! That was quite the turn of events! Once everything greens up, it will definitely look like the photos. I went and looked at more. I just love the trees there. I can't wait to see your potted island evolve!

It's looking much better Nigel. Once the Adeniums leaf out I'm sure the whole planting will appear much more cohesive. Good job!

Looks great Nigel. Nice work. The rat tail jades look like miniature columnar cactus to me. Maybe the blue aquarium gravel Tom sent you could make up some sort of shoreline. I noticed the Island pictures has very bright blue water in. Always a pleasure, thanks.

Really great additions to the scene Nigel. Completely different feel adding the new plant elements - similar idea to your northern bog forest. May I kindly suggest trading the moss for clumps of lichen or reindeer moss? Will be more satisfying to maintain in this xeriscape and can be watered with an eyedropper. Best regards!

Awesome setup and on the way to even better future. I was wondering about the moss... can it coexist with desert roses when they rest and need to be kept dry? Maybe i am wrong thinking here just a thought.

I'm sure the moss will dry out, I do water just the moss, a couple of times each day and so far it is still green!

Absolutely gorgeous, Nigel! You really takes us with you to Cicatra (if I spell it right) Island! I was wondering: do the aloe leaves you cut root as jades do? I have a few succulent and if you “prune” the top few leaves by twisting them, and leave the tip to floor: a new plant grows… after some time the top of the original plant regrows… maybe it works with aloes too?

Mine flower, but the flowers are very small and kinda anonymous… I guess they adapted to prohibitive conditions, so no frills just functional

Aloe plants do not root from leaf cuttings. You need a section of the stem where the leaf attaches and has a node to grow from. If you clip a leaf and look at the cut surface, it's full of the gel and not the usual fibers and structures you find in plants that can root from leaves.

Nigel, Greetings from Alabama. Question: my schefflera is getting leggy, if I prune back down the trunk past the leaves, will it back bud or will it die off?

I love everything about it except the tall jade tree on the front. It steals the show from the desert roses and ruins the perspective. Other than that, great job!
