Man I love the chatoyant gleam of young cherry tree bark! It just has this sheen like a moonstone gem. Nigel, your cherry should do just fine with the root pruning if my small Kojo-no-Mai cherries are similar, but don't expect to many blossoms this spring. That and it might be a bit slow to leaf out for late spring and early summer. I'm growing my trees in Tennessee so the conditions are significantly different, but I tend to have great luck with just letting them flower in spring, swap to leafy growth for summer, and once the leaves have hardened off and left for a week or two I'll either just prune branches or prune and re-pot while kept in partial shade to recover. You really get to the root of the matter in this one Nigel! I've had a similar day today with some of my younger nursery stock - especially the Forsythia. What really amazes me is how you manage to turn around your video's so quickly. Just keep it coming and then I can keep on copying you :)

Inspired by your recent videos, today I inspected the root system of my 1.5 years old Royal Oak. The tap root didn’t even get close to the bottom of the pot, and yet it bent 90 degrees and started to go around in the middle of the pot! Never saw anything like that, but it has been sorted out! 💪

Hi Nigel, I’ve never seen you use fertilizer for your trees, would a “root stimulator” type of fertilizer work to aid in recovery after these severe root prunings?

Question to yourself and subscribers, i have four, three to four year old cherry fruit trees, bare roots, which i purchased this year 2022, they have budded very well even after reducing the trunk to 2 feet, i want to take the trunks ( 1.5" in diameter), down to 2, 3 and 4 inches, what is the best time of the year, and would it bud again or would you graft?

Love seeing swans and ducks flying. Hate how idiots kill them for there so called sport.

You may have covered this at some time earlier, but what do you do with the soil you remove both from nursery stock and your repotting of your existing plants?
