I recently reread my whole collection of Disney Fairies books, and I thought it would be nostalgic to talk about them. I've tried to include as many illustrations in this video as possible because the art is (in my opinion) the best part. Feel free to leave a comment, it makes my day!

My favourite part growing up was definitely the part of Bess's book where she randomly sketches out a windy scene and-while most fairies would find it messy and unappealing-Vidia, a prideful character who'd never even admit to having an interest in "arts and crafts", immediately takes a liking to the piece. Though I didn't realise it then, this 100% made a huge impact on me as a young artist. It goes to show that: • Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. While generally aesthetic art may easily please more people, creating an unique piece which deeply resonates with even just one person feels much, much more meaningful. • You can't please everyone, and you shouldn't. Doing so only leads to eventual mental/physical burnout. Might as well just invest time in something you're personally interested in (and someone will definitely take a liking to it, as noted in the previous point). • Never agree to free labour! Charge appropriately for commissions. Your expertise came from years of experience and deserves compensation. I am now a professional illustrator & art teacher. Thank you for reminding me of the good times, you must've spent so much time creating this video. This included so much content and was presented very well, I hope more fans discover your channel 💜

iirc it's stated in the books that not all laughs become NEVER fairies- some laughs become shimmering fairies, some become wanded fairies, etc. only a rare few become never fairies, and because fairies are vulnerable to disbelief (which they had very little power to prevent before Prilla came along) on top of natural deaths (can drown in less than an inch of water, very tasty to hawks, etc) i'm guessing their mortality rate is fairly high

when i was a kid, i always wondered how the movies being prequels worked considering the peter pan movies, since tink is meaner and more jealous in the peter pan movies and only gets better after jane saves her, while she is nicer and more controlled in the tinkerbell movies. the books being sequels to that makes so much more sense for tink as a character.

I loved this world in GCL's books (unfortunately there was only the first one in the library so I didn't even know there were 3 of them). I loved that it felt... real? Reasonable? (kinda....) I loved that pixie dust didn't come from knowhere and that fairies had limitations - pixie dust was given in rations and no pixie dust = no flying, and second - that the wings weigh a lot in water! It was unique to me, and the most impactful thing was when Rani had to cut off her wings. I still remember to this day how I felt reading this. It was kinda dreadful but I was very impressed.

So I was an adult when all the fairy stuff released but was immediately just charmed by the aesthetic of the books. I feel the designs on all the fairies is so much cuter in the books than in the movies. I got my little niece to play the pixie hollow online game with me, which was the most amazing game. You made your own fairy or sparrow man and could craft clothes, decorate your own house and had of course your talent. You'd earn crafting materials doing all sorts of mini games that were blatant copies of well known ones but with fairy theme to it. When they took the entire site down i was soo sad. I think you're right about there being 2 kinds of people. Those that dream of meeting fairies and those that dream of being fairies. I was definitely in the be a fairy column. I wanted to be a water talent so i could hang out with Rani and Silvermyst (my favorites) or a music talent because i love music. Prilla (sp?) and Rani were some of the best book fairies, and I never understood why they didn't choose to have them in the movies. P.S. I always pronounced it Rainy in my head too lol. oops

I'm a big fan of the g1 with Rani as my favorite fairy (that's probably why I'm such a drama queen) I discovered the franchise by the comic books and i didn't started reading the books until much later, i readed the quest for the egg when i was 16 and still was surprised by how much dark it was, it's obvious that Gail Carson got a lot of creative freedom while writing it because the body horror on it it's just wild, but by the other hand, her narrative about never land and the fairy world felt almost like it was written by JM Barrie himself it really feels like a legitimate continuation of the original Peter pan, even more than the official book sequel

I loved the movies as a child and still do but they really don't seem to do justice to the books. I found this excerpt from In the Realm of the Never Fairies. “Pixie Hollow Deep in the heart of Never Land lies a place called Pixie Hollow. Here, extraordinary creatures known as the Never fairies live, work, and play. There are many kinds of fairies in the world, but Never fairies exist only on Never Land. Unlike their larger mainland-dwelling cousins, these fairies are tiny, and their magic comes not from wands or spells but from pixie dust. Every fairy on Never Land has a talent. It is her calling in life-the thing she does best and loves best. Some fairies are experts in cricket-whistling. Some are skilled at turning berries into ink. There are fairies who spend all day soothing silkworms, or talking to trees, or summoning gusts of wind. There are as many different talents in Pixie Hollow as there are jobs to be done.”

I only ever read one of the books despite being obsessed with the movies as a kid. It was Rani and the Mermaid Lagoon in which Rani is dealing with basically being disabled. I had no context for it but I just remember really relating to her feeling separate from all the other fairies and lonely and not fitting in and all that. I actually didn’t remember the ending, just her struggling to find anyone who would make an effort to include her by accommodating her disability, her feeling like the mermaids don’t actually care about her or want to be her friend, them just liking the novelty of her almost, and how much that resonated with me as a kid. I was later diagnosed with a couple of disabilities and now, looking back on this book, I realize it was kind of the only time I’d ever seen my experience reflected in a book. It was very good at capturing that feeling of trying to find people that will accept you and struggling with the fact that you can’t just be like everyone else, even if you try to. Anyway shoutout to the Disney Fairies chapter books for including disability representation

It's interesting having adult money sometimes to go back and explore "kids media" like monster high which feels like a kids to preteens demo But you still have people like me and others who still enjoy it.

This brought back some memories. I had a craft set that was about taking flowers and plants and making them into clothes for fairies. I totally loved that Tinkerbell themed set, I'm so glad that I remembered that it existed.

I absolutely loved this video ❤ I also pronounced Rani as Rainy as a child. Also, had many of the books including the hidden world of fairies. I’m wondering where you got the fairy homes book … I’ve been searching the internet high and low for months trying to find a like new copy. I don’t trust the sellers that don’t have pictures of the actual book and it’s condition 😖 I learned that the hard way. This was a phenomenal video, I adored it! Great job ❤ so excited for more videos about the fairies!

I had some of the magazines. They have the energy of the books just in comic style and there are extras like infos about the fairy world or some fairies, and some activities

So nostalgic... I loved the fairies from the books so much and had a lot of magazines about them. Never got into the movies but I guess I was already too old when movies came out. And correct pronunciation of Rany's name surprised me too! But it's due to the fact that in translation to my native language her name was something like Rainy indeed

about the magazines i think they were released in different countries, i’m from mexico and i have a few of them, they’re so cute, they have different sections like comics, tests, horoscopes, and there’s a section that shows the rooms of the characters, i’ve realised that some of the illustrations from the first books are included on it. the characters from the books appears more on the magazine. thank you so much for your video, i’m not able to read the books, but you gave me so much information about them, i hope i can find them💗💗

For some reason, when I think about fairies, I think about the one time a few girls in my neighborhood (when I was probably 10 years old and they were) were building a little fairy house in some rock wall. Being curious and barely understanding fairies, came over and started to poke and pick up the little props they made and absolutely destroyed their house. They never talked to me again after that. Also, during that same time period, I distinctly remember my middle school library had the manga version of the Vidia crown story and 2 different fairy chapter books. I remember that because I read them.

I thought it was Rainy too! But Rani is a beautiful name, and she is a fav character because she has always been the most interesting to me. Also love of swimming, I relate. Omg wow, there were a lot more books than I thought. I think I reallly only got the quest for the egg, and then maybe 4 or 5 of the books?

My entire world is imploding because I also called her “rainy.” I swear on my life her name was also spelt like “Raini” which is why I pronounced it that way. Did I just make that up my entire life?

I love the trio of Prilla, Vidia, and Rani. Their personalities are so different but they bounce off of each other so well. It reminds me of your ragtag DnD party going on a quest.
