Athena P did a deep dive on the Tinkerbell movies and the books a couple of weeks ago. I don't think I'd care for the books. I didn't mind the concept of the Disney Princess thing when they first started it because each character was it's own thing and it was as much about that character as the princess part. When they launched this own Disney Princess universe thing, it just cheapened everything. The movies didn't matter at all practically. In the beginning, maybe there were little girls who never actually sawr those movies, but the character was still of that world.

Or… hear me out… the orphanage children are taken back to neverland to be a never ending supply of children who believe in fairies, hence the origin of the lost boys and Peter Pan

I do agree with your points it is very sad we could not see this finished version, I always had a soft spot for the Tinkerbell movie since I watched when I was very young. I feel like if they do end making another Tinkerbell movie in the future they can use that movie and the ideas to make another movie about it may this one could be the finishing movie that could pay respect to the creator of the franchise and Tinkerbell herself.

So I worked at an AG store in Kansas from 2012-1019. Here's my insight into the sales part of it: - Julie was the most popular doll, followed by Kit. Kaya's doll and accessories basically collected dust (except her horse, people loved her horse). Josephina was stuck in the Bitty Baby section. Poor Cecile almost never sold as well. - The movies played on rotation on a TV and for the most part I found them adorable. I genuinely recommend the Kit and Molly movies, which in theory are on DVD somewhere. - Gabriella was doll #46 with a hairband. Which is why doll #46 was "retired" - We were taught that "retired" dolls and accessories went away forever, but "archived" dolls were dolls that were temporarily taken off the shelves. Not that it matters - AG will pitch new versions of formerly popular lines whenever they feel like it. - Some of the larger play sets were super fun to clean up/reorganize. Luciana's Mars station was very cute and interactive. Ditto for the incredible French bakery set. And the Wellwishers playhouse. But to be fair we did notice a drop-off in the quality of materials and construction over the years. - Our peak year was probably 2016. That was the last year when I remember Black Friday being amazingly busy. For Blair, the 2019 doll, January 1st was very lackluster in comparison. I think 2016 or 2017 was the last year the store had an event before the Girl of the Year movie debut. - In 2017 there was some kind of hold-up from the Chinese factories that produced the Bitty Baby line, so we had tons of baby stuff out of stock for months (then they changed the design of the toys anyway SO take this with a grain of salt). - We got a girl-sized ear-piercing booth in 2018. It was mostly successful. There was one incident where a very cute, VERY young girl got upset because (I assume) the piercing was too painful. - Most of the books are really good. Some read like well-done, kid-friendly self-insert fanfic. Kaya's books are great. Kit is super boring. Tenney is basically a Taylor Swift riff. The quality of the Girly of the Year books is decent. - I acquired a few accessories and dolls that I'm trying to sell off, hit me up if anyone wants a discontinued table & chairs or an unopened Logan doll (guitar sold separately).

I was reading a book I found in highschool and there is this woman who's extreme trauma makes her a violent danger. She's around for like two or three chapters, her name is Attaroa (At-Ah-Row-Ah). For some reason I moved the R to be before the A and called her Attroa (Ah-Trow-Ah). Then i heard the audio book version and was astonished at how badly I screwed her name up. I have everyone else down, even some of the more obscure names from the series but that character was too hard for me lol.

I'm glad they scrapped the ring of belief. It sounded like too many plot points and too many distractions with a basic story line. I loved the movies as they were without too much exposure to the fairies involvement in the main human world. Fairies being involved in seasonal changes makes more sense than human imagination. How does one show belief and imaginations its such broad concepts, but seasons you can see and appreciate visually on screen. I prefer what came out.

Lassater saved us from cursed 3D Peter Pan. Let's give him some credit. Scrapping first movie was a waste but I think both ideas were okay. Just the Ring one would give birth to lame trilogy. And ones we have are way better so ig it all ended well.

I only ever read one of the books despite being obsessed with the movies as a kid. It was Rani and the Mermaid Lagoon in which Rani is dealing with basically being disabled. I had no context for it but I just remember really relating to her feeling separate from all the other fairies and lonely and not fitting in and all that. I actually didn’t remember the ending, just her struggling to find anyone who would make an effort to include her by accommodating her disability, her feeling like the mermaids don’t actually care about her or want to be her friend, them just liking the novelty of her almost, and how much that resonated with me as a kid. I was later diagnosed with a couple of disabilities and now, looking back on this book, I realize it was kind of the only time I’d ever seen my experience reflected in a book. It was very good at capturing that feeling of trying to find people that will accept you and struggling with the fact that you can’t just be like everyone else, even if you try to. Anyway shoutout to the Disney Fairies chapter books for including disability representation

I always figured the books are written with fae logic/a metaphor for neurodivergence. All of the fairies' talents are their special interests. Those who don't have one are "incomplete," and to the Fairies, it's considered very odd to not have a single purpose in life. ❤

surprisingly, the descendants musical adaptation fixes a lot of the pacing and character awkwardness. my friend was in charge of lighting for a recent production at his campus which made me curious enough to look into it and the changes are all really good- for one thing, carlos and jay get a song for their subplot and actual character involvement, then since its just the plot of the first movie but they wanted to include some songs from the second and third they reorder things and shuffle around in an interesting way that makes Ben a way more active character. like, he gets to be rightfully upset about being roofied and shares "if only" as a duet because he actually needs time to consider if he can trust the core four and if he can still fall in love with mal post roofie. then at the end he makes the declaration to open the border which erases the idiocy of him just,,, forgetting to do that in movie 2. also "ways to be wicked" is like, a mob song for audrey and chad which i think is a great decision since the song didnt have any plot relevance in the second other than establishing a vibe and its used here to demonstrate the tension rising between the core four and Auradon kids. would highly recommend if you enjoy the music but the plot is. so much

I would really love a Native American Girl of the Year. I feel like a lot of things with Native representation tend to be set in historical settings, or at least before the mid 20th century. I would even be happy with a Native American historical doll from the 1970s during the Native American civil rights movement. They would need to put in the work to represent it accurately and not fall into stereotypes and such, but like…that’s what my dad grew up in. That’s the reality for a lot of Native people who were kids in the 70s. If they wanted to do that instead of (or in addition to) a Native Girl of the Year and approached it sensitively, I think that would be good. Because right now if you’re Native and you want an American Girl Doll that you can buy for yourself or your kids or whatever that reflects your race, you just have Kaya. And she’s great, but there’s no option other than her. If you want white people buying them, there are so many mixed-race white and Native people. So you could do a biracial Native doll. They’re creating new face molds constantly, surely it wouldn’t be a problem if they wanted to create a whole new one? They could also use the books that go with the Girl of the Year to talk about the issue of portraying Native people as sort of only existing in the past, and they could have part of the doll’s story be about embracing their culture and bringing more Native representation to some field that the character is interested in, like sports or movies or whatever. There’s so much potential but they just are not doing anything with that. And it does make me a little bit sad. But if they do release a Native Girl of the Year or even a post-1940s-ish historical doll, I will absolutely be buying it (along with several of my family members).

I only ever remembered reading one of the Disney Fairies books, I think I borrowed it from the library because I don’t think I have it anymore. The plot centered around this water fairy named Rani whose backstory was probably in another book, but from what I gathered she’d had her wings cut off because she volunteered or was chosen to go underwater to…retrieve something important maybe? Anyway the story follows her adjusting to basically being disabled and how she feels different from the other fairies because she needs certain accommodations since she can’t fly. She ends up going to hang out with a bunch of mermaids, but then she realizes they don’t actually care about her so she goes back to Pixie Hollow and reunites with her friends. I had no idea there were so many more books though.

I was in high school and working at the public library when these came out. Id adored the Gail Carson Levine book, and would get the chapter books even though they were obviously below my level, lol. It was indeed the beautiful artwork and the intense but cohesive world building. I was SO angry when the movies came out and they were using different fairies. Oh, and the first thing i did was pause your video and count your bookstack and then google how many there are. I spy 19 and i think theres 24 of the chapter books? Im the kind of nut whod be going on a treasure hunt for the last 5. OH and the website. Did anyone else get on the website and play all the kini games and collect all the clothes and items to decorate your house?

Well, most of Auradon's Heroes were attacked without just reason, so many of them are self righteous enough to rally for such an Edict, such as Audrey's Mother, Cinderella. The Heroes are actually just as Heartless as the Villains are, and were originally. So it's a Mutual Love-Hate relationship.
