Hey protestors, stop protesting for the guys who rescued her to release her. She was just by herself for 2 years. She deserves some personal care and to become a part of a herd again so that she has friends.
@draconiusultamius

Domesticated sheep being released into the wild also causes problems for the sheep bc their wool doesn't just fall out! Imagine having a coat that you can't ever take off, even when it's cold and wet, or when it's far too hot. Saying that you should release a domestic sheep is like saying we should release a pet dog that has been a stray for most of it's life after capturing it, rather than rehabilitating it and rehoming it.
@dianebannister4591
@dianebannister4591 6 ай бұрын
@@draconiusultamius You are absolutely right. How goofy those protestors were to call for releasing that rescued sheep. That was so much wool on that sheep that if not sheared, how could it even walk around in that overload? Then as you said having all that on even in hot and rainy weather. I am sure that the sheep feels much better after being sheared.

They guys that rescued her talked about the weight of her fleece on her body and how it would ruin her joints etc…it’s not a wild animal and it’s not a pet. Anyone or anything that gets rescued has media attention when it first happens then they settle into “normal” life again.

What are they protesting? That a highly social animal like a sheep who only feels safe with the protection of being inside a *herd* has finally been given the opportunity to live in a herd again? That she got rid of her 10 kg of way too heavy fleece that would have caused her pain and discomfort and eventually death? There is a lot of stuff wrong with what people do to animals. Fiona's story is not one of those times where you need to protest.

What nitwits those "animal rights activists" seem to be! She barely has been rescued and who is exploiting her? They're taking great care of her and saved her from a very disturbing life for a herd animal helplessly living in total solitary confinement at the bottom of a cliff alone in a cave! Animals do need protection, but surely they could have found animals who are truly abused to defend.

This is a beautiful story…I’m so glad she was rescued…unfortunately there was a sheep who was rescued by a vet on “Bondi Vet” tv show by Dr Chris Brown in 2015 after being on the loose for 6 years around Mulligans Flat near Canberra here in Australia….the fleece weighed 18 kilos…the poor thing was left to survive in harsh conditions…it was named “Chris” after the vet and the fleece made the Guinness Book of Records….but unfortunately died in 2019…..after living out her days at a sanctuary…kudos to these men for taking the risk to save her…it’s heartwarming❤️❤️🐑🐑🇦🇺🇦🇺

Fiona was named because of a famous sheep called Shrek. He was rescued in New Zealand 2004 and featured on the the Bondi Vet show. Shrek’s fleece weighed 27kg/59.5lbs. Shriek is the most famous, but Chris, a Canberran ram found in Canberra, Australia 2005 holds the record of sheared fleece at 41kg/90.3lbs. He likely had only weeks to live due to his wool. Other rescued fleece weights: Shaun, 2014 Merino ram Tasmania 23.5kg/51.8lbs fleece. Big Ben, 2014 Merino ewe New Zealand 28.9kg/63.7lbs fleece. Sheila, ewe 2015 Tasmania 21.8kg/50.3lbs fleece. Ewenice, ewe 2020 found in Victoria, Australia 20kg/44lbs fleece. Baarack, Merino ram 2021 Victoria, Australia 35kg/77lbs fleece. Shrekapo, Merino sheep 2022 from New Zealand with 18kg almost 40lbs of fleece. Alex, 2022 Victoria, Australia produced a 40kg/88lbs fleece.

There is a video here on youtube that shows that those activists went down there to feed and "tame" her for several days in a row. That was quite an effort and they took the risk more than once. Maybe the fact that she was so calm is in part due to their effort. They wanted to take her to a sanctuary. The farmer then got those other farmers (and youtubers) in and told the activists not to come back. Everybody makes money and clicks with Fiona (no critique, just a statement). I think she is in a good place and will live out her live in security and well cared for. I don't think she is exploited, but she will be used for clicks and for making money and popularity.

I’ve lived on a farm with sheep my whole life, and I’ve seen what those activists were trying to do to “gain her trust”. It wouldn’t have worked. If you want to do it, go alone, sit down, and don’t look straight at them. Sheep are excellent at reading body language and if they think they are your main focus they get very anxious.

She looks so much better after being sheared, dipped, dewormed and put into a knowledgeable home. Fiona had to be removed from the environment she was living in for her own safety. 2 years without lice dip, shearing or health-care was putting her welfare in danger. Hopefully she will be able to live a healthy and happy life in her new home.

It’s a rare breeds farm, non of the animals are sold for slaughter. Every animal that leaves the farm is followed up, to ensure that they are safe and happy! The farmers have been so careful in devising a plan, to allow Fiona, to learn ‘how to be a sheep again’ & how to ‘communicate with other sheep’ etc! All done, without stressing Fiona. The farm doesn’t re-open to the public, until Easter, so Fiona can be well integrated with other sheep, quite happily by then !! Believe me, if there is any sign of Fiona being exploited, the Farmers will soon step in, to protect Fiona!! Perhaps if you check out the farm, you’ll be reassured that Fiona will have a wonderful, safe and secure future, ahead of her!
