I love the way the lorry driver with brakes helped the other lorry driver who has no brakes to help it stop before the curve up ahead

They told me a couldn't shift down going down a mountain. Well I did going down Black Mountain East bound I 40. When you lose your brakes you will do the impossible. I prayed God I need a miracle. When I came around the last bend and saw the near the bottom when it straightened out I can't tell you how much I thanked God I could kick the motor high enough to slam it into lower gears. It was a miracle. Thank you God.

You're stupid as my as Every truck has Jake Brakes,trailer brakes,handbrakes You can stop everywhere with truck if you calm down and think That's fact!!!

Antiteroristicke Jedinice Ponisavlja Obviously no idea what you’re talking about here. I’ve been trucking for 45 years, I’m the proud owner of a 1985 Peterbilt 359. As you can see, if the pressure drops, there are no trailer brakes, air brakes, etc. Not every truck has a Jake brake, I had to install one on my older Pete and lots of newer trucks don’t have them either. No PSI= No brakes= No stopping “anywhere.” You can’t slam a truck into lower gears, it will over rev the engine, and won’t slow the truck down, just let it ride over the rev point and possibly blow the engine or transmission casing. You obviously don’t understand these things so don’t go commenting on people unless you do.

@@truckerpete3595 whats the fail safe in the automatic transmissions now? i might be old school but i think id prefer a few gears under me if i was a driver...definitely not a be all end all but this is an extreme case that no standard tranny would be able to handle without air

I am from South Africa. Just outside my hometown is a pretty steep down grade an a relatively streight road with mountains on one side and a village on the right which run streight into a busy T-junction. It happened in afternoon rush hour when a older truck came downhill with a full load. The driver then let his truck roll onto the passenger side and lucky for him he stayed on the road and not ramming into the village houses or the traffic ahead.

This is an amazing and scary episode. Louie is a real big rig hero! And I appreciate him. I'm curious to know, what are the years , models and colors of the 2 trucks in this video? And did Wayne and Louie drive the same make and model of trucks like in this reenactment, or were they completely different year, make and models? Sorry for sounding rude and nosy. I'm just curious as a Big Rig enthusiast/fan. Louie is still a hero. And I love this story. Please and Thank you.

I looked at Earl and his eyes was wide, his lip was curled, and his leg was fried. And his hand was froze to the wheel like a tongue to a sled in the middle of a blizzard. I says, "Earl, I'm not the type to complain; but the time has come for me to explain that if you don't apply some brake real soon, they're gonna have to pick us up with a stick and a spoon." Well, Earl rared back, and cocked his leg, stepped as down as hard as he could on the brake, and the pedal went clear to the floor and stayed there, right there on the floor. He said it was sorta like steppin' on a plum.

I'm from Nova Scotia.... the Cabot trail is so dangerous you have no idea.... the highways through CB kill many a biker or four wheeler a year, not on mention truck drivers... you lose your primary brakes and then can't dynamite them you're basically a statistic.... most truckers would grab gears, burn brakes and get as far away/ahead of you as saefly possible....

wow i know the feeling on those steep hills i think the flatbed driving should of let off the brakes a little so he didnt get a flat spot on his tires then hit the brakes again. but that was a good job

When he first realized he had no brakes, why didn't he gradually start downshifting? An 18 wheeler can't go 70 miles an hour in first gear.
@SFtruckerWolf
@SFtruckerWolf 7 жыл бұрын
Unsynchronised gear when get enough fast is coming situation that you cannot get any gear there, because you can downshift only so much what can take engine out rpm. Not more.
@gmctech
@gmctech 6 жыл бұрын
good luck with that. kinetic energy, split seconds of WTF is going on and you're already beyond the safe zone. you ever tried grabbing a gear in a truck that's intent on pushing? no I didn't think so... again good luck with that.. even if you did that, the engine does NOT have enough structural integrity nor does the cylinder head and gasket to use engine compression to slow you... those trucks on those grades would just grenade any diesel out there and then you're free wheelin'

Unless his breaks have been backed all the way off or the pads worn down to nothing. Which in either case is very unlikely. Totally NO BRAKES is impossible.... His gauge showed 90 pounds air but if you loose all pressure the breaks would set !!!!!

Stephen Roth in today’s day, you are correct. Air brake systems were quite different back in the 70s and 80s. DD3 and spring brakes weren’t in existence back then. That aside, if your air lines freeze up- you’ve got no brakes. Air dryers back then weren’t like they are now.

don't wanna be a Canadian idiot! Your truck drivers seem to forget how to down shift You seem to misunderstand how engines work They work on rotations in tandem with the transmission Don't wanna be a canadian idiot Down shifting reduces speed at dramatic level Many manual drivers know that Because they are not Canadian idiots.

David McCoy II Jake's brakes wasn't mandatory until1996 in all trucks but most road trucks did have Jake's and my experience in drive a truck Jake brakes will not stop all loads if the down grade is steep enough

Engine brakes have been around a long time. Some people didn't like the additional cost of installing them, and real drivers knew how to go down hills. It took awhile in first or second gear,but it could be done.
