Finding one extinct animal is enough to put your name in the history books.. Forest was able to find MULTIPLE previously thought to be extinct animals alive and well.. His goal was to show people and scientists alike that nature is far my resilient than we give it credit for and the process we use to label an animal extinct just because we haven’t seen it in a while or only saw it once is ridiculous. He truly accomplished his mission and went further beyond his expectations and I’m sure his Grandfather would be very proud of him.

@@drakken04 Sure, I can appreciate what you're saying, but where I live we had/have a creature by the name of the Tasmanian Tiger. Scientists have said for years it's extinct, yet there have been rare sightings, including one myself, that is undoubtedly a Tasmanian Tiger. Furthermore Megalodon is also declared extinct, yet there are people, who didn't even know what a Megalodon was, who have seen one. So I rightfully respect that science looks for definitive answers on extinction, but I think in most cases, the title of Extinct, is very much debatable.

The minute the fishermen got a few dollars and the cameras left, these guys went right back to catching and keeping any and every shark they caught, including any more specimens of Pondicherry Shark. This is a very poor place and if anyone really thinks they are not keeping any shark, including Pondicherry Sharks, they are only fooling themselves. Since 1970 there have been several but less frequent records of the shark. There have been scientific papers and even news paper articles published on it up to as recent as 2016. Talk to Rex Ian De Silva who is the foremost shark expert in Sri Lanka who has several sitings and publications on this shark.

The problem is that yes he claims a lot of work of his team and others as solely his own, but by doing so and bringing a face to the field he’s raised more awareness than any of their work could have independently.

For a creature that's said to be very adaptive, there's no way I can believe them going extinct. Law of the wild is to adapt or die out. I'm thinking they got smarter and avoided waters where humans frequently fish...or they couldn't adapt fast enough...
