Using castable resin and a 3D printer, I printed a Logo based pendant for a friend. This was then set in investment plaster and cast in solid sterling silver.

Sorry to hear you were sick. I'm glad your feeling better. I've been there myself a few times. I totally agree with you the pendant was weak in that area, it also looks like the two outside forks may be different sizes but it may just be a camera glitch thing. Thanks for the great video! Stay safe my friend.

Good to see you back on your feet Geoff! The casting looks really good! I'm assuming you want to get into and polish inside the recessed parts? Personally I would leave them as 'textured' and polish the top level with the frame and lettering. Wet sand with higher and higher grits and then jewellers rouge on a felt disk with the dremel. But that's me.... If I think of anything that you might be able to use to get into the recessed bits, I'll give you a shout. Cheers Dan

Great video! Thank you so much. I have a question. Do yo go with the resin burnout cycle or the investment burnout cycle? I'm having trouble with that matter. Thanks VOG :)
@vogman
@vogman 3 жыл бұрын
I tend to favour the investment cycle as that's usually less forgiving. Most resins and waxes are happy to melt away, but the investment needs specific times and temperatures to chemically react.

How do you get your prints off the bed so easy? My last couple prints have stuck so bad I broke pieces getting them off. Is my exposure time for the first layer too long?
@keithyinger3326
@keithyinger3326 4 жыл бұрын
I bought a metal paint scraper, then i re-ground the edge on it so its a really long sloping edge and not the blint not very sharp one it came with. Hold it mostly level with the build plate and the sharp edge slips right underneath the prints and they usually pop right off. I broke 3 of those weak plastic spatulas so i had to do something different. Just keep your metal scraper fairly level on the plate or the sharp steel will easily cut into the aluminum plate.
@vogman
@vogman 4 жыл бұрын
If your prints are completely bonded, then maybe the exposure time is a little high. But as Keith had said here, a good thin and sharp metal scraper should work for you : )

Porosity is the enemy... and so many possibilities... Dirty metal (recycled too many times) Too hot Too fast a pour Too many dramatic changes in flow Incorrectly tuned gas torch... The list goes on. In an ideal world, clean metal, not too hot, smoothly poured.
