I decided to make a cossack knife out of this piece of shashka.
First, I removed the old handle. And put a piece of a checker in a rust remover. As usual, after I washed, dried and oiled. I decided to shape the knife by cutting off a small piece of steel from the blade. Next, I processed the blade on a sanding machine. Also, I corrected the cutting edge, the shape and made new bevels. With the help of an iron wire brush, I cleaned the metal surface. Next, sanding of the cutting edge and etching of the blade in iron chloride.
The next item is the handle. I chose beech wood. Initially, I glued two parts together, and then cut out the shape of the handle. After the final processing, I moved on to creating the scabbard.
The sheath for the knife was made of wood, pasted with genuine leather and additionally made of brass fittings.
I made a leather suspension so that I could wear a knife on my belt. And as usual, a delicious and interesting knife test is waiting for you! I hope, you will enjoy this antique restoration video. Thank you for attention!
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!
