This is the restoration of a machinist vice to use on my milling machine that I recently acquired. I paid $70 for it which I think was a bargain considering the quality of the vice. It was made by the Chicago tool and engineering company in the USA. Although it’s been used and abused and is obviously quite old it still works beautifully and should last me a lifetime with a little care and maintenance. This video originally was much longer but due to upload issues to KZfaq I’ve had to trim it right back. That may be a good thing😂😂😂

Thanks Magdad, yes my hand is healing well but you know what it’s like, you get itchy to do things so I’m sorting out 40 years worth of nuts, bolts, washers and screws into their different sizes and putting them into separate containers. Not much fun but at least it’s productive and will save me time and money in the future. Cheers my friend, Stuart.

Thanks Ben, you’re a genuine person. My wife and I are just happy to still be alive😁. I mentioned to the surgeon that fused my wrist, that my left shoulder was still giving me grief so she ordered an MRI and it’s more surgery. The tendon that connects the top muscle in my shoulder was torn off the bone so she is going to re-attach it so it will be more quiet time while that heals. I saw a podiatrist recently and he says I fractured every bone in my right foot and most of them in my left so now I get to wear custom made shoes for the rest of my life and my wife is in the same boat. But while I write this the dog is sitting next to me and we’re both sitting in the sun on a dead still day with clear blue skies and I can hear the birds flying about getting ready for spring so life really is pretty good😊 Cheers my friend and stay safe.

Hey Fixation Restoration, thanks for you kind comments. My wife and I are glad we pulled through as well😂. It’s been 3 weeks post op now and my wrist is healing very well. The surgeon is very happy with the progress and so the cast is off and I have a removable brace. She also wants me using my hand, within reason, so that means I can get on with the Swedish vice. Life’s good 👍 👍👍 Cheers Stuart.

Awesome work, your attention to detail is insane! One tip for the sandblaster: You seem to have the cheap blasting gun that came with the sandblaster. If you get an aftermarket one (a one that is a little on the expensive side) it will speed up the process by a lot. Hope your wrist gets well soon.
@scroungasworkshop4663
@scroungasworkshop4663 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mindindustries, thanks for your comment. No one has ever said that to me about attention to detail. I regard to your sandblasting comment I’m all ears. The cabinet is a large workshop unit I purchased second hand, like most of my gear, but the original nozzle had quite large exit hole which would have required a very big compressor so I changed it to the elcheapo trigger. As you seem to know what you are talking about do you know what is the advantage of a foot trigger for the air as you still have to hold the gun but I see a lot of the higher end units fitted with one. My unit came with a foot trigger but it leaked so I didn’t use it. Why will a “better” gun speed up the blasting? Thanks for your comments and advice. Cheers Stuart.
@Mindustries
@Mindustries 3 жыл бұрын
@@scroungasworkshop4663 I guess the advantage of a foot trigger is that your fingers wont get tired from having to press the trigger down (that is especially the case with the cheap guns). I honestly cant scientificly tell you why a better gun speeds up the process, I guess it is just a better overall design. Mine for example has a much bigger inlet tube for the media to enter and a different blasting tip. Also the trigger is a lot bigger, making it really easy to press and therefore eliminating the need for a foot trigger. I hope this helped. Greetings from Germany, Max

@@Mindustries Hi Max, I’ll have a try and go back to the original gun that came with mine. I always appreciate people sharing their ideas. I hope you are safe and our thoughts go out to all those in Germany 🇩🇪 Belgium and the Netherlands caught up in the severe flooding. Cheers Stuart.

That is a sweet vice! Great find! The sandblasting was nice to watch. I have not used my sandblaster in years. So if you are using your wrist, I assume there is a lot of pain associated with using it? Otherwise, why get it fused? I hope it goes well for you.
@scroungasworkshop4663
@scroungasworkshop4663 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Time Flys, yes it was painful and getting worse. I did a lot of that work on the vice before my wrist was broken in our car accident. I kept telling the dr’s it was painful but they were more concerned about my other injuries so no one followed it up for nearly a year. By the time it was investigated the wrist had healed but was malformed and all the joints were out of alignment so the only option was fusing to stop the joints deteriorating further and hopefully relieving the pain. Thanks for your comments and I agree it’s a sweet vice. I find that most older tools made in America are of a high quality. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
