This is an 8th order bandpass. It is using two 5.25 woofers. Not bad for $15. An monolith 10 or SVS would be much nicer, but a lot more money. Good video!

It's not a subwoofer. It doesn't deliver subsonic sound. It's a bass unit with very average 5.25" bass drivers. Bose use proprietary circuits in their acoustimass units to protect these drivers from over amplification especially their passive units. Given you have bypassed this circuitry be very weary of not blowing them up if you are using a decent amplifier. 🙂

Nice work! I converted a Bose Acoustimass 30 series into a passive system with a Bose Acoustimass 5 backplate once and it turned out great!

I got rid of that buzzing on mine with a shoe lace. just tie a bolland with the loop just big enough to fit over the top of the module. The lace should cross the vent gripping the riggess. Then slide it down the back towards the bottom. May Allah keep you in his grace and mercy.

I’ve got one of these and there is no yellowing and it works perfectly but the foam that’s behind the port has came loose and the wind created by the drivers is causing the foam to move about and it’s making this annoying flapping sound at higher volumes. Was hoping that I could replace the foam without having to rip the front plate off but it looks like I’m going to have to. Rip (before somebody says it might be foam rot on the drivers, I’ve already checked and it’s not thankfully) Very helpful video though 👍🏻

You can upgrade it further by disconnecting the speaker terminals from the amplifier. Big improvement.

Tip ... buy any modern active subwoofer that may have woofer damage , Then transfer the circuit and power units into this old bose unit and then use the rca subwoofer input as normal. A good unit to find is a sony SA-W10 and remove the top half.

BOSE is the best. No lie.

i have an acoustimas 25 series II and i'm using it as an active subwoofer. u can use its amplifier as well...

This is some variation of the 6th order band pass enclosure which is not even in the audio books.. Impressive Bose design. Those concealed from the listeners drivers sound at their best!!!

I noticed on the back of your front panel the old glue line that was holding the foam onto the front panel, did you ever glue it back on? That could cause odd noises for sure.

There is also a keyboard shortcut to organize the BOSE-Umusic after songs have been deleted, you also know the combination of buttons on the BOSE AV48 Media Center Greetings and stay HEALTHY
