For all those people who said you "ruined" the bike...having it sit in storage in original condition isn't useful for anyone. I think you showed the bike more love by customizing it and riding it every day than keeping it in "original" condition and not enjoying riding it.

For real, there's a lot of snobbery in the bike community. It's hard to tune out, but props for getting that hate on the previous video and soldiering on to make this one. Bicycles are built to be ridden, good on ya. I guarantee that given the choice, the person who built that frame would much rather it still be in use in this form than sitting in a garage in its original form.

That's the same treatment mine that I used in the time I spent in Groningen used to get as well. I even deliberately gave it an ugly uneven bright green coat of spray paint (cheapest option from the Action or some other place that I can't remember). Worked out great, mechanically I kept it maintained very well and it was easy to spot when parked in a forest of other bicycles that didn't have those ugly colours. It did finally get to the point of not being worth repairing last year though, it has gone through quite a few spare parts from my dad's bicycle graveyard but the brakes were almost worn out, sprockets were toast (and we didn't have suitable spares), the hub gear was on its way out and some important bits of the frame had become rather rusty. If it wasn't for the combination of that last one and being able to use the bicycle program at my new job I probably would've still looked into fixing it. But for something I bought used many years ago for 65 guilders that took me to school and later to university in Groningen it's not too bad while being repaired mostly by used parts I can't complain, just about the only new bits I didn't skimp on was the tires since some of the regular trips were over a "schelpenpad" which is a terrible idea with bad outer tires.

Hi! I'm a Korean mom of three boys living in North Texas absolutely loving your videos. My family loves riding 🚲 bikes. My husband says he loved it when he was a little boy, and cruising with our boys gives a totally uplifting feeling. My oldest went through a couple of bikes(because he grew so fast), and those bikes are still in our garage. My husband uses the parts from it to fix our younger boys' bike. I wish we had the type of co-op bike place here in North Texas as well(I'm going to research now). Anyways, thanks for the video! Gives us so much inspiration to care about our world!

The best bike is the one you will use. No point in having a classic road bike with an aggressive ride position that kills you back, and really hard gears that make hills a struggle. If you hate the ride experience so much you stop using it, what was the point. Liking the white walls.

Hi!! I'm a bike mechanic of 5 years and I restored an 87 Peugeot that I found in a dumpster. If you ever want new brake calipers that look vintage, Tektro makes some short reach retros that fit the style perfectly. Also make sure to pull the seat tube out and see if you can find some holes in the frame and spray some frame saver in there. It protects the steel from rusting out on the inside. Beautiful bike!

It's great that you refurbished that bike. Today, people are so quick to throw things out and get new when the older bikes are really quality bikes that just need a little TLC. I'm refurbishing my 1985 Ross mountain bike to make it into a loaner bikepacking bike and having a lot of fun doing it. I had a lot of great times on that bike in college and I can't stand to just let it go.

There was a guy where I live (I think his son has since taken it over) that did this out of his house. Everyone knew exactly who you were talking about when you said "Mike the Bike Guy", and when someone who was new to the asked about where you could get a bike, very often they were referred to "Mike the Bike Guy". I got my first bike there as a kid and it was DEF older than me, but it was exactly what I needed for how I was planning to use it (believe it or not this was my first bike and I was 10), I wanted to be able to ride it to school, to the corner store and around the trails with my friends. That old gal did it all and I LOVED her!!

I did something similar with my 30 year old Schwinn Paramount. I upgraded the old group set with a used 9 cog Ultegra group set and changed out the stem to one with 6 deg rise for more comfortable riding and replaced the wheels with a new set of DT Swiss wheels more suitable for commuting and it’s been a great commuter bike and because it’s a classic Paramount it gets a lot of attention. Very often people will tell me what a nice bike they think it is and for commuting it’s a sweet ride on city streets.

Hey Levi, love how you added life into this beauty. Hate to give unsolicited advice, but I cannot keep myself from doing so: I have noticed the rust spots on the fork and the handlebar/stem. That's a nice store, always good to see places that still repair things and keep old used bicycles around. Kinda makes me miss the bicycle graveyard that my dad always had in the barn, more than a few of my childhood and student time bicycles were repaired from those parts. I think there's still a few left in the barn and last year they were used to repair one of my sisters bikes. While I can't think of any stores that work in that way here in my area in the Netherlands at least there's still quite a few places where repairing an old bicycle is pretty normal. Even having good used ones for sale and a bunch of the places have their own graveyard for spare parts as well. I really did abuse that poor old bicycle I picked up for 65 guilders at the time, lasted me all the way through secondary school, university and to commute to work until late last year (well I still have it as a somewhat dysfunctional "kroegfiets" to park outside bars in areas I don't entirely trust, but it hasn't been used for months even before covid).

Well done. You may be missing out on the single speed option but going for the geared classic look on a great vintage frame, solid and meaningful choices. If you go single speed in the future (not fixed just freewheeling) you could just put a single speed cog and chain on ($30). Levi (my oldest son -who loves your channel -just got his first single speed). Cheers from Minnesota.

I wish I could commute to work but I live on a city where it it’s 30º C all year round plus I travel over 20 km from site to site (I am a civil engineer with 4 projects) and also I need to drive downtown to make diligence from work

The gold rims were badass, no joke :) I enjoyed this--I just dropped $150 on my bikes and it really is a great investment

8:30 That Shimano 600 derailleur dates from the era where Suntour derailleurs were constructed by their patented parallax construction, where the hinges of the central part where the brand is printed were already tilted. The elite in cycling back then knew this, and that's why you would find the cheap Suntour derailleurs even on pretty expensive bikes as it would just shift so much better. Shimano had to wait for ten years to be able to use this technology. So, sorry to say, but your 'new' derailleur there actually shifts the gears pretty horribly, as it doesn't have that yet. When that patent was expired Shimano didn't know how quick to convert their whole line of derailleurs to also adopt this. The principle is pretty basic, as by tilting the hinges the bottom 'cage' with the wheels in it will follow the path of the gears way better. So, even though it is a high quality piece, and looks fantastic, I would get rid of it and install something else.

I am a minimalist by way of restomods I actually just matched the paint on my old windsor 10 speed removed what rust there was fixed the mechanical issues tires and brakes then spot painted and I'm done but it's one less bike in the landfill and gives me options over my land rider and truck ..... what I'm trying to say if it works for ya go with it
