Retford Railways 1999

Plenty of preserved action through Retford during 1999 especially during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend when some of the remaining legendary Deltic locomotives were back in action. Also included in this video are former LNER A4 Sir Nigel Gresley and A3 Flying Scotsman.

The final scheduled Deltic hauled service run was the 16:30 Aberdeen-York service on 31 December 1981, hauled from Edinburgh by 55 019 Royal Highland Fusilier, arriving in York at just before midnight.. The last train was an enthusiast special, the "Deltic Scotsman Farewell" on 2 January 1982, from King's Cross to Edinburgh and back, hauled by 55015 Tulyar northbound and 55022 Royal Scots Grey on the return.

Great vid, makes Retford looks like it was back in the 1960's, minus the 225's and the Electric wires. Super footage!

exellent video, deltics reign supreme and i to would like to see deltics once again rule the ecml , its good to see a bit of steam as well, but yous can shove them 43, or 225s thanks for vid

I don't know, personally I love the 43s, the 225s aren't bad either, plus, the 43s are going soon which saddens me

They are BR MK1's painted in the special paint scheme (which I think on this occassion was Caledonian Railway livery) specifically for charter train duty. They havebsince been, and continue to be repainted into different liveries duch as GWR chocolate and cream and early BR blood and custard.. I wonder what they will be this 2022 season.
