Good choice Andrew. Malaysia is the perfect place for retirement. Our weather which is quite hot all year round is actually very good for health as you will sweat more. People here are more friendly than other south east asian countries. The food in malaysia is really unbelievable. We have chinese, malay, indian and even portuguese food which you will really enjoy. Maybe you can try relocate your retirement to malacca which is not too big like in KL and also not too small. Malacca is really a very nice city and you can also find lots of big shopping centres. Thank you for choosing malaysia as your retirement home. Assure you, you have not made a wrong choice. Stay safe and healthy Andrew.

Another reason ... Travelling ... within 2-3 hours flight you may be in Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia/Bali, India. for 6-8 hours flight ... you are in Korea, Japan, Australia, Middle East, China. Most of that through a single direct flight.

You are right, for me Malaysia is a better choice than VN, and staying in HCM or Hanoi can be very expensive compared to Kl. Everything is much easier in KL and easy to move around without the needs for a car or motorbike which is impossible in VN, you need a motorbike or use grab everytime!!!. And the visa policies in MY is definitely much easier than VN. All in all, in my opinion Malaysia is a better solution for foreigners.

Love your videos only wish they were longer. My partner is Malaysian and we both live in Australia but for us it’s easy to just pop on up for a holiday and pop back. Almost no time difference and the airfare is very reasonable. Those new visa requirements for retirees are onerous indeed, so, unless the government changes them they’ll get almost no applicants. They may want it that way of course but eventually I think money rules and they’ll change it again.

We are retiring next March at 55 and 60 in Mexico. Malaysia used to be an option, and I am not up to date on it, but I believe the retirement visa is much more difficult to qualify for ? We lived in Costa Rica many years ago. It is not inexpensive any more. We also prefer cool weather and speak Spanish, so are heading for San Cristobal de las Casas. 7200 feet in elevation means no more hot, sweaty, sticky days. We hope to take 4-5 years and very slowly travel through Central and South America with our last stop probably being Arequipa. Peru. By the we should be able to pick our favorite place and put down roots

Hi Andrew, I have been enjoying your channel and plan to cruise through Malaysia to check out my retirement option early next year. I have looked at Thailand in the past and it really doesn't appeal to me (well the expat crowd didn't appeal to me anyway). The thing that puzzles me is, what do you do to fill your days? I'm 64 and not working at the moment. I currently try and keep occupied with activities that include one or two sessions a week at the local primary school growing vegetables, I'm on the management committee of the Local Town Hall and take the lead role in restoring the gardens with a team of volunteers, I participate various tree planting projects, and I am training as a guide at the local art gallery. I have a couple of daughters that I see regularly and and assortment of grand children to spoil. I see friends a couple of times a week and have a florescent garden. I average around 15,000 steps a day. The thing is, I often find myself with many blank hours to fill. Do you think that retirement in Malaysia would help me fill those blank hours? Cheers Mark

I am a bit worried about the health care when I start getting issue in my old ages.. I can speak Cantonesee and Mandarin which make it easier for me to live in Malaysia too. But I think I prefer to live in smaller city with slower pace of life maybe Penang.. Ipoh... rather than rat race city like KL.

Today I am revisiting the expat life... I put it on hold when I 'unretired'. I am within 2 years to my official retirement age. I am looking at several countries and Since I only speak English it's a little scary to attempt to go to Latin America with the exception of Belize. I have a question about the visa and residency. If you do not have that overinflated income they require, can you go to Sarawak and get residency there, then live in KL or Penang? I think the requirements is that you only have to be there 15 days a year... If you don't do either, can you do a border run at 90 days? Have you made any videos about that?

Hi Andrew, we are interested in the MM2H visa as well. What we understand is that the requirements are much higher (an agent told us that Sarawak MM2H is going to shortly follow suit) and we would never qualify. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.
@andrewtaylor4558
@andrewtaylor4558 Жыл бұрын
Hi Dean, yes, you are correct, the current standards are much higher than they were when I applied. From what I have heard, they are not receiving hardly any applications anymore. The general feeling is that if you could qualify now that you would most likely choose somewhere else to retire. I had not heard that the Sarawak MM2H was going to follow suit but I’m not an authority on the subject. If you are ready now, I would move on the Sarawak MM2H as soon as you can. Sorry I don’t have any better advice. Good luck to you!

Good question! Yes, I’m pretty sure that I will die in Malaysia but not soon, I hope! I haven’t looked into funeral costs but I will. Thanks for watching!
@hann659
@hann659 Жыл бұрын
When there is no one in charge, what is the point of a funeral? :) Anyway, a normal funeral should cost 10k-20k MYR. If you want an apartment in a crematorium, then that can cost another 10k-40k. If there is no one in charge, a simpler way is to donate the body to a medical school. After the students have done their studies, the school takes care of the funeral. You can search on the Internet for this. Anyway, the MM2H rules probably will make sure people will be sent home before they die. So should prepare for a funeral in the home country instead. Same for other countries like Thailand. Many people may not die straight away. Thailand may not want them to stay when they need care. So, dying in a foreign country is not easy. Besides, the landlord may also try hard to ensure deaths do not happen in the rental property, which means they might not rent out to people who may not live long enough.

Unfortunately,since the revamp of the MM2H, the requirements are high. Example, An Australian on the pension does Not qualify but then is forced to live below the official poverty level in Australia. The amount would be enough to live a reasonable lifestyle in Malaysia. Glad you got in early. The situation in the USA, Australia,UK etc for retirement is becoming critical, people are already starting to die because they can’t afford heating in winter. I’m thinking of how I might be able to make it work, only really need 6 months of the year there.

You still have another more affordable option. Go for the East Malaysia Sarawak MM2H. Much lower fixed income requirements. You have to stay there for 2 weeks a year then you can travel & live in Peninsula Malaysia for the rest of the year. But apply as soon as possible bcos the govt is thinking of making changes to the MMSH too soon, ya. 🙄

I was planning on moving to Penang, after I retire so I could travel thru out Asia and have Penang as a home base for the next 3-5 years. How is the MM2H affecting your stay in Malaysia? How would MM2H be for new retires interested in coming to Malaysia? My alternative with the best expat Visa would be Sarawak,Cambodia or Vietnam.

I think the Philippines has a better deal at least today for retirees. Here English is also widely spoken and all signs, etc are in English. The income requirement is only $1,000 monthly (vs $8900 with mm2h) plus $1500-$10k bank deposit (v 233k mm2h), depending on visa type, inexpensive cost of living and no income tax on retirement income. Also travel to the US is much easier - direct flight to NY is 15h.
