RETIRED DANCER'S REACTION+REVIEW: MONSTA X "Shoot Out" M/V+Dance Practice!

WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?! Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this KZfaq name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon!

Random incoming thought/rant: Monsta X really helped create the blueprint for 4th gen, sound and concept-wise, and you can start to see it when you go back to the things they released from 2015-2019 (and even now!) They used to get a LOT of hate for being "too dark" and "too loud" but that's exactly what many people in the industry loved and got inspired by! (Especially with monsta x being famous for being BUFF, and male idols got inspired to get that image too) For example, groups like ateez, a.c.e, skz, and wei are huge fans! Jooheon would even train kpop trainees, and companies would teach their trainees about mx's concepts! I wish they got more credit for it, but what's most important is that their work has had everlasting impact and inspiration to fans and artists alike 🤗

Shootout was the mv that made me a monbebe! You can't watch it without singing along to the chorus by the end of the sing. Not to mention that Shownu's chest move shook me to my core. 😊

I do appreciate your expertise. There are so many good ones with Wonho. Other good ones are Beautiful, Jealousy, Alligator... I mean all of them... But also if you want to be even more different than this 3rd gen style check out their English songs on All About Luv or Play It Cool, their collab with Steve Aoki.

I've always loved Monsta X choreos for their musicality (thank you, FreeMind, best anmu team!) But Shoot Out is especially satisfying to watch because the song itself is their signature MX sound but v catchy. I could say pretty much the same about Beautiful, except that the choreo for it kind of builds in momentum and intensity (it features kind of stiff lower body with looser arm movements, mostly at the beginning).

You should on youfube type in Monsta X Bazzi cover Myself. It begins with Hyungwon, then my baby Minhyuk and finally kinhyun. They did it live so u will either get each member by themselves during into or a couple back up singers behind each one. U should either react to it or just watch it on your own. I love if.

just like some cmmts said, yea mx is the inspiration for 4th gen when they were bashed for their "nosiy" music. and idols become inspired from MX being buff idols. The fact that mx was bashed for having noise music and now they are enjoying 4th gen's noise music makes me wonder what is wrong with ppl

Sorry in advance for the long comment but Yay! for Another Monsta X reaction! They really are great at controlling when to go soft and hard with their energy. Some would perform their choreo hard from start to finish which i think is unecessary. They also, as you've said don't follow the usual 8 count and tend to dance to the feel of the song- if that makes sense- which i really really like. I agree with what you said of Mx being different, that is also what atrracted me to Mx. They sound, feel and just everything about them is different from the other groups. (Yeah, i've been in this kpop thing for a while now) Musically they've grown so much and it makes me so proud as their fan that newer groups tend to look up to them now and often say that they want to be like Mx. As for their songs, their title tracks are just the tip of the iceberg. Wait till you hear their B-Sides. Sambakja live is unreal. Unreal, i tell you. They're unreal live. Like seriously. One of the best concerts i've been to. Honestly.

As a fellow dancer and choreographer, I absolutely love watching your reactions. It's nice to hear others share their thoughts and observations and appreciate the details and technicality of dances from a dancer's point of view. Of all the K-Pop artists out there, I always look forward to seeing MONSTA X, Stray Kids, and Taemin. Their choreographies have so many details, dynamics, and are often advanced making them both unique and challenging. Props to FREEMIND, members of Stray Kids and MONSTA X, Rino Naksone, Koharu Suguwara, Baily Sok, Kasper, and more for creating these iconic and legendary dance numbers!

I'm not sure which MonstaX-7 videos you've already watched? But I'd suggest, their debut song Trespass, Rush, All In, X-Girl feat. Mamamoo's Wheein, Beautiful, Dramarama, Jealousy, Alligator, Follow. Their English album, All About Love - Who do you Love, Middle of the night, You can't hold my heart. Last songs that Wonho was in. I'd love to see you react to Wonho when he was "encouraged" to leave the group and go solo. His solo debut song is "Losing You", then Open Minds, Lose, Ain't about you feat. Kiara. MX7 will forever be eternal brothers and I'm sure they still love and support each other and spend time with each other behind the cameras. I love your MonstaX reactions! If you wanna check out their older choreos, I really recommend No Exit dance practice. I think that choreo really helped them cemented "the MX style" when they debuted. It's complex, powerful, and smooth all at the same time.

Shoot out, alligator, fighter, hero, jealousy and Dramarama are the choreographies I tried to learn.. I only got the chorus and some other parts down. I think I tried to focus on Shownu, Wonho or Kihyun when I was learning the choreo since they are my bias and wreckers. I don’t know if you have seen it, but Dreamcater did a medley of boy group choreography. Which they killed. Monsta X’s Alligator was one of them and my Insamina Monbebe heart had loved it.
