I've joined Instacart since March I was bored to tears gripping to my daughter about it. Stuck in a condo with my husband after downsizing from a huge house with backyard etc.... Our fitness room (my only salvation was shut down in mid December) so I thought I'd give it a try for March.... Or go completely crazy.... Well I'm addicted I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. it's instant gratification of payout. In Alberta the gas is about 20% loss. But just in March I grossed over $2500+. No one was more shocked than me. I start my old age pension next month... So might not do it after that trying to stay within free senior benefits in Alberta and all. But it's been a hoooooot I love shopping and it's perfect for a cheapo like me. Living vicariously through my clients. I even take my 14 yr old gdaughter with me to spend quality time with on Saturdays once in awhile and I give her half the take that day. So she's happy making $70-90 on a Saturday afternoon. And we make up stories about the client we're shopping for based on the food on the shopping list. It's been interesting going through my regular Costco, Walmart, Superstore etc in some one else's eyes. There's sure alot of wierd and wonderful food out there that I didn't even know was avail just based on my own regular shopping routine.

My neighbour gave me a boat that sat in his yard for 10-12 years and thru KZfaq I learned how to fiberglass and install new wood.etc. Cheers from greater Victoria area (SOOKE)

The passive income idea is a good tip. As to the others such as pizza delivery etc., I think if you retired early and have to deliver pizza, perhaps retiring early wasn't a good decision.

If you are using your personal vehicle as a delivery vehicle make sure your car insurance allows you to do that.

Yeah agree with this sentiment. Fact is that as you age you are likely to need more costly health care at a time when you can least afford it. Also you may be physically less able to do things as time goes by or things may change in life. Also all these "lifestyle" type things may evaporate overnight if the economy takes a dump, which is looking increasingly likely. We have more than enough stashed away to last maybe 15-20 years, or longer, and our incomings exceeded our outgoings this last year in spite of me not working but I'm still thinking about finding some work for a while due to what I see happening. It is an interesting topic for sure but after a certain age you will no longer be able to work so you will want to be sure you have it sorted before that point or it could get messy. I've seen it happen many times already.

@@ThisIsOurRetirement I can think of other activities, hobbies, learning, etc. that can keep me busy. All these things that I should be considering before I retire early. If I need the extra money, I emphasize "need", this is a very different story.

Great shirt Norm! Saw Pink Floyd three times in Toronto, Brit Floyd, Australian Floyd and see Rogers Waters this summer July 2022. Interesting topic…. Not sure I would keep fit delivering pizza lol. Dog walking/writing sounds like fun. Tracking investments and making good picks I’m hoping continues to make up for having to work. I enjoy volunteer work…oh oh another topic.

Hey Tina and Norm!! So great to see you guys and Butters LOVES Norms Pink Floyd shirt today!! Floyd is AWESOME!!! We are all about the dividend stocks, especially Vanguard right now. That's cool you can take a Tax Prep course from H&R Block if you pass the test. We already do online selling, but not at a massive level. That's cool one of your supporters said that delivering Pizza was good, to not only keep him fit, but pay for a good portion of some of his bills. One of our neighbors is a dog walker/sitter and she's in her late 60's and loves it!! We have a question... how much are you paying for Instacart vs. the cost of the items at store? So if normally at the store the order was $100... how much are you paying on Instacart? We almost died laughing when you said "Start a KZfaq channel". It is DEFINITELY one heck of a long journey, but yes, rewarding. Fun video and love you guys to the mother effin' moon and have a beautiful weekend! 💖😘🤗

Lovely to see you both we liked the dog walker idea although we aren’t 🐶 doggie people and delivering Pizzas 🍕, with Instacart their prices are getting better and now they are matching the flyer pricing so no difference to the store . Also they will sometimes have crazy deals like really nice soup at 50cents 😱😱or discounted chocolate, on top of your order there is a delivery charge, service charge and tip that is around $10-13 for a $100 order . It’s a great service with this Covid restrictions and if you just don’t want to go to the shops. We have got another stay at home order for a month so not going anywhere. Here is another way to earn some extra funds.....once restrictions lift of course. Many retired couples do odd jobs at the campground they are staying in exchange for free or discounted camping rates where they are staying........Might be an idea for you Tina and Norm at your campground with your new trailer. Just a thought. Great videos.

A caution about pizza delivery. It's very hard on the car, and you are going to do a lot more maintenance than you would otherwise. Brake pads and clutches in particular wear out a lot faster with the kind of start / stop diving you do.

Consulting work is also a viable retirement gig. My dad fell into this when he was forced into retirement due to a couple of minor illnesses and setbacks. Throughout the time he had owned his own construction business he had given out his phone number to scores of people. Many of them began calling him out of the blue for advice and guidance. He could take on work if he wished or refuse it, he was really his own boss practically until the day he passed away. He often told me, "If I knew I could be so active in retirement, I would've sold my company 20 years earlier" (P.S. to Norm: Somebody's really got a good vibe going on with that Pink Floyd T-shirt!)

Good ideas. To supplement my income, I dog sit for friends, water their gardens and mow lawns. It gives me extra cash, I enjoy doing it, and my friends are happy to know their dogs are staying with someone who loves them and will care for them. I do only mow for people who already have a rider at their house and I don’t trim.

Good ideas--I like the dog walking one. I just want to work two days a week doing something I love and adding to my income. Delivery services are good especially if you already have had your covid vaccinations. Tours are suspended where I live-Washington, DC until our covid numbers decrease. I love looking for my next "gig".

I would suggest gardening. I plan to plant a couple of money trees in my backyard, small denominations only, maybe a couple of $5’s, a $10 or two, maybe even a $20. The larger denominations take too much fertilizer and attract tax collectors and that requires pest control.

Great video...lots of ideas...I think, also, if you can tap into some of the skills that you have developed or take a course to develop a skill. I took a course to be an audiometric technician. It is over a weekend. Then you can test people's hearing. It can be done part time for a clinic, particularly going to industrial locations to test worker's hearing...keep up the good work and you will soon be wearing and marketing " Norm and Tin" T shirts!

Thank you for all the suggestions, I have couple of comments I like to share. - Special caution about the Pizza delivery and associated risks to it. e.g., getting robbed, slips and falls! I personally was robbed twice doing Pizza delivery. Please be careful with your choices. - Other home Delivery services, the reason you guys are staying home to stay protected. I believe, other retirees specially at such a feeble age should also be cautions and stay protected from the potential effects of COVID-19 ? - Dividends income options surely appears to be the safest one in the current health circumstances.

Regarding divdend paying shares, they are considered as being safe, that makes them trade on very high valuations so the risk and reward can be way out of line. Having said that I am firmly of the opinion that the biggest risk of all is not having any risk in our investments. I know the psychology of it is what level of risk do we feel comfortble with, this in itself is a contradiction. Therein lies the problem. After 30yrs plus of ups and downs in equities I know that the rewards far outweigh the risks involved. Well after retirement I stay at 50/50

I agree with you on that even though I haven’t made any money people probably say why have you stayed with it for seven years. You just said wine because there is a great KZfaq community as long as you stay away from the cranky ones. I have awesome followers they give me lots of support in have made some great friends also along the way and a couple real friends there even in the area I live oh my gosh I would’ve never known them or met them people wasn’t for you too. That’s why I’m still doing KZfaq seven years later

I think it's all about positive mindset. If you have absolutely had enough of working full time, you will quite happily do any of your tips! All these KZfaq tutorials are great - we are currently building a garden room/ office! Hope ur both well - getting closer to going to your cottage!! X

Hi Norm and Tina, Really enjoying your series of videos as we, like you, are UK/Australian retirees here in Ontario, Canada. Your tips on passive income was interesting, but apart from the TFSA income stream (which we have also maxed out), any income will impact our(my) Canadian OAS/GIS, so we are hesitant to pursue these interesting income sources. Each $2 of income reduces GIS by $1. Have you had to come up with a strategy to monitor your passive income so as to maximize OAS/GIS at the same time?

Hi Max, It is a tightrope for GIS, firstly max out your deductions including medical expenses mileage for appointments. We think the maximum for GIS is around $34,000 for a couple and if both of you are over 65 you can income split. Every year we take money in savings accounts and transfer it to the TFSA’s so ver time sheltering more savings. Thanks for watching.

@@ThisIsOurRetirement Thank you to both of you. It sounds like we are on the right track. We will be transferring the maximum allowed each year from our EQ savings into our individual TFSA (GIC) accounts to build up our yearly return, than when my wife reaches 60 in 4 years time she should be eligible for the GIS - Allowance. So all is looking good. We plan to eventually get a camping trailer or perhaps a permanent one like yourselves so as to enjoy this amazing province of Ontario.

I had Edward Jones as well was not a good experience. I did some major research & went with credit union financial advisor you don't get have all those nasty fees. When I was doing the switch over discovered E J didn't put my money where we had agreed upon. I had a shock of the charges incurred by govt because of that. Had talked to my new advisor being so upset. She went to her boss, the credit union covered those charges. Still with them, my original person has retired, but very happy still. Good luck

Great ideas...you do need to be careful here in Canada if receiving "extras" from CCP...there is a limit to how much you can earn and keep the "extras"....

@@mikearend997 Hi Mike, dividend income is taxed favourably in Ontario and there are Ontario dividend tax credits, just Google it to find out more. We hold most of our dividend stocks in TFSA and they are tax free there.

Delivering those free local newspapers or flyers is good exercise and extra income. Teaching English as a second language is another if you enjoy teaching. Teaching online photography classes if you like photography If you have a skill you could use those skills to earn extra income when you need it Cutting lawns and yard work if you really like gardening. There are lots of ways to make money and combine that with something you really enjoy

Thanks for mentioning my pizza story! I've been delivering twice a week(8-9 hrs) for several years and make $300-400 per month in tips on a tipscard-enough to cover groceries/misc. expenses. My bi-weekly salary gets deposited direct into my account, which is a nice bonus every month. Also a fun adventure going in and out of apartments in my area.

There seems to be may choices, if you'd like to enter into "passive/extra income" but I think there is something else for those who want the "stimulus" but perhaps don't need or want the income ties. In my community, SW Ontario small town, there is Eldercolledge....funded by a combination of government and private monies...but taught, developed and enjoyed by seniors of various interests, skills and time input. A WONDERFUL way to keep "smart"...meet new people and in may cases -keep fit. When my husband and I moved here from "out west" we took courses in everything from local history to agriculture to wine/beer tasting to theatre.....to canoeing!! Get involved as a volunteer! ps. Nice T-shirt Norm...ever a fan of The Wall !!

Hey guys. Love your videos. Just another caution about doing any kind of delivery services. There was a recent case of a woman doing this and got into an accident resulting in $10,000 damage to her car. Insurance company refused to cover it as she was using her car for undeclared business use. If you do declare this it will of course mean higher monthly premiums for your insurance so you really have to analyze whether it is worth it. If you are leasing your car, this is a definite no no. And as someone else mentioned there is the excess wear and tear and maintenance costs to consider.

I buy and sell and collect old (classic) cars and trucks. I’m semi-retired and have the opportunity to transport them from out of province. It gives me the opportunity to see interesting places and meet interesting people. I keep it small and it’s a cash business. Over the ten years I’ve done this many of the vehicles in my inventory/collection have doubled or tripled in value.

I'm 47, working in financial services industry, which I really enjoy but don't know that I want to work full time in this very demanding industry until 65+. This year I decided I'm going back to university part time to work toward a masters degree in psychology. My plan is to be a marriage counsellor or therapist. I can retire from the bank at 55 (If I'm done the degree by then) and work 1/2 the time for about the same money. A lot of therapy can be done virtually now. This opens the door to being able to travel more or winter in Portugal, work from my very rural cottage etc. I like your idea of taking the H&R Block course. Great way to make income in the few months most don't want to go far anyway. I have some clients that work a few hours checking in on seniors. They aren't doing personal care for them necessarily, but helping them with their meals and maybe light housework. If you are someone who knows how to care for livestock there are always people looking for someone to farm sit. If you are a good house painter, you can easily make a few hundred dollars a month for only 3-4 hours work. (must improve my painting skills! haha) There are lots of odd jobs that people can't or don't want to do and are willing to pay for. Can you stain a deck? Repair a fence? Meal prep for someone? Now I need to think more about the side hussles to increase my income to help pay for school....
