Let's make retractable touch plates for the CNC router!
I made 2 types, a Z Probe and an X-Y Probe
This has been on my to do list for a long time
Using the surface grinder is probably overkill for the accuracy of the router. At a guess the router is maybe accurate to 0.05 mm on a good day.
The #1 Touch Plate is SOLD! I will have other items on ebay here now and then: www.ebay.com.au/sch/tommygunm...
If people are interested I might make more of these touch plates
Special thanks to Adventures With A Very Small Lathe for helping out with the sticker sequence / @adventureswithaverysm...

The sticker exchange pimp up idea is just brilliant. Poor blue man, one day he will have his revenge. And for the 5K subs, they will be there sooner than you think.

The blue guy got lots more video game time because the red space man was quarantined on the way back. That would sound really weird taken out of context lol

Hey mate! Gday from NSW. Just a quick tip with grinding small parts on the surface grinder. Whenever youre doing small parts like you did, you are going to want to lay some larger pieces with more surface area around it to give the part some lateral support. This will lessen the chance of the part jumping up into the wheel and making things go real south real quick. If you have some thick parallels they work really well. Take care and loving the content!

Great video. I am interested in learning how to use GRBL on my CNC router that I have built. Is there a macro or G-code that you are running to touch off, re-touch, and then set the z axis to zero on that surface (likewise for x & y) ? Thank you for your help.
@TomMakeHere
@TomMakeHere 4 ай бұрын
I believe there is G-code, however I set it using my software interface. I'm just using Universal G Code Sender and it has a few probing options

Hello i have a question what do you use for run code to get all 3 probe points is it a custom code you wrote or is it something else? Also does the probe for all three axis' use the same a5 pin and ground pin?
@TomMakeHere
@TomMakeHere 3 жыл бұрын
I'm using open source software called universal g code sender. It has some in built probing options if you go into one of the menus. I've not had a chance to use it in a while, but I believe there is an option for just vertical probing to get the height (I only use this 95% of the time) there is the 2d probing in x and y, and I think a full 3d option that touches all 3 axis directions Yes it all uses the same pin, the software just looks for a probe detection signal

On the last probe of the video you didn't have the alligator clip on the bit. Did you make a permanent attachment for the alligator clip?
@TomMakeHere
@TomMakeHere 4 жыл бұрын
I missed putting it into the video, the alligator clip is connected to the spindle body. You would need to check that it is conductive all the way to the tool in your case. I also double check with the probe in my hand that it completes the circuit before committing to plunging with a probe cycle. Just in case something has come loose
