Thanks for checking the video out! This time we build an old Cannondale with the new Velo Orange eccentric bb converter!
I do some test riding with it and see how it goes. Check back here for a longer term review 👍

I agree about using alternative grease! For those who live in US, Lucas Marine Grease is a cost-effective option for all bike parts and can be found at popular stores like Home Depot and Walmart.

I'm a cheap b@stard so I get the walmart brand of marine grease and it's lasted me eons. Once my Phils oil runs out I will be getting walmart brand gear oil instead. Half the price of phils but 20x the amount. Bike specific greases , oils and cleaners , etc are way expensive for what they really are lol

With all the positivity and love and just a recommendation. If you have to dish a wheel two full spoke nipple revolution it's the only way in four steps - half - half - half - half and always start with the side wich needed to be loosened. The wheel is a system and doesn't like big stability changes in overall spoke tension and two full spoke nipple revolution in one step is definetely. Like if you disassemble a wheel and you try to save the rim (in it's) for another bulid you doing it by half revolution by 32/36 spoke at least 5 rounds...

I owned this exact bike frame and built it up into a gravel grinder back in 2011 ish. Really awesome frame and great quality!

Big props to you for being our collective guinea pig and testing this! I've been dying to see this done, as a broke bike mechanic I don't really have the means to fuck around and find out on my own with this kind of thing. I love the aesthetics and ride quality of 26ers (my main bike for everything from groceries and commuting to bike tours is a steel Diamond Back 26er) but I also really would love a fun little fixed bike. Currently the bike that would be the candidate for the conversion is in single speed mode, and I already have all the necessary parts except for an appropriate chainring, the excentric BB, and a long axle for a front wheel.

Haha that’s exactly what I thought, even if it breaks and fails it’s better for it to happen to me than X number of other people! I’ll keep the comments section updated if/when it does fail, but just rode it again and it’s going great so far. Did many skids down a long road last night on the way home and had heaps of fun haha. The steel Diamondbacks are a really good choice, they make wicked do-it-all bikes 👏 Sounds like a good plan, hope the BB goes well for you 👍 Still wouldn’t rush to it, I’ll keep testing to see how it goes but it should’ve failed(or loosened) by now if there were any weak points.

Hope you build one up sometime, I’ve had a few and they’re so fun! My first one had really low gearing for off-road use, which was fun but it wasn’t as usable with the low gearing haha. One with two fixed gears would be really cool though 😍 Thank you! 🙌

little tip. you can use cola and alluminium foil to polish rust. works very well and safe wd 40 :)

love me some silver and purple parts. my yellow m900 has a bunch. i think its funny we both just finished cannondales that have silver cranks and purple chainrings and mavic wheels, and those very same purple esi grips. Love this build, its super my style.

Interesting BB it’s good to have options. I run a 42x17 on an old univega with same dropouts chain is tight but no issues and a very neutral gear for me.VO is creative

Thank you! Yeah really wish they used something more secure, but then I’d probably ham-fist the bolts into the bearings and ruin them that way 🤔 They could double up the grub screws though, I think?

one thing you might not have considered is that usually the part that you removed from the hub controls the axial preload on the bearings. It looks like now when you tighten the wheels nuts, that might over preload the bearings significantly, leading to rapid wear. the Peak Torque channel has a good video showing how this works when he compares thru axles to QR.

You might’ve missed it or just assumed that I swapped axles without considering that. But you can see at 16:38 that the nuts are at a random point on the axle with thread showing(no control from the axle I removed). It’s the same system with both axles, they’ll be allg 👍

ah yeah just had another look, the end caps are threaded and so you can still independently preload the bearings👍

you want a single half link. and maybe a double hollow 9speed chain... my 2010 GF Rig SS XC 17.5" has a BB like that and it's literally 13 years old now...

Hey! Yeah I don’t think if weight savings were a concern I’d get tyres that don’t weigh 1kg each haha. I would like a cool gold chain though, for the style! I have a Izumi chain for an upcoming fixed gear build though 😎 oh rad! What’s the bb called? Is it a trickstuff one? 👌 And the half link, don’t really need one as there’s heaps of chain tension left 🤙

Smashing video ,great job ! Thinking about the 3 small grub screws, it does sound flimsy? Yet if fully tightened up i think you would need a lot of force for them to slip , much more than the power from pedaling? Even grinding up a steep hill ? I guess time would tell .

Have you had any experience with eccentric rear hubs? I believe White Industries makes some, they would be another route around the vertical drop outs.

Do you reckon the Velo Orange Eccentric bottom bracket would work with a Sram Omnium crankset ? Wanted to convert an old Gt All Terra into fixed without having to weld new drop outs

You would need a 22to24 spacer for the spindle as the Omniums Spindle is 24 on one side, but 22mm at the end while this bb is made for 24mm spindle in both sides.

A 135mm Fatbike fronthub laced to a normal 26" rim could work, i just don't know what chainline that would have.

Hey, these are 104bcd cranks 👍 some bmx companies do race chainrings in this bcd in larger sizes for bmx racing, this is a Tangent chainring. Cheers!

Have a question for the content creator and the comment section. Bought a bike and the front brake hanger on the headset is off center and cock-eyed so am assuming thread damage on the fork. If that is the case what steps can I take to fix the threads? Is a thread file better than a thread chaser? Just looking for some tips and suggestions..thanks

Dang, yeah those things always take out some of the threads. A thread file would help but it’s likely just removed a chunk of the thread so won’t be much material left to “fix”. The headset will thread over it and you can use that to restore the threads to some extent, then file after.

I just tore apart the headset this morning and yup, the nub from the brake cable hanger mucked up threads on the fork. I might file the nub off...Your thoughts?@@toastyrides

First time i see eccentric crank, interesting. But they can't be adjusted to be centered😂 so it's not an upgrade unless you need them for some reason, but why would you? What do they intend to achieve?

Too bad it doesn't last long, aluminum can't handle steel nuts and braking pressure for long. Ideal would be a chromoly frame.
