Retroid Pocket 3 Plus Teardown - A bit of a challenge

The Retroid Pocket 3 Plus I got arrived with an impossible-to-miss horizontal line that covered the entire panel. After reaching out to Retroid, I was offered a replacement panel. What I did not expect was to receive a whole front unit. Impressive!
Outside of the fact that I was having a bad day, it turned out to be a fun little project, and looking back now, it showcased just how well-built the Retroid Pocket 3 Plus really is.

Thanks alot brotha. I followed step by step just to replace my broken screen. It's definitely a pain with all those small screws but this guide really helped. Subbed!

Just wondering, how easy is it to take the screen out? Let's say I wanted to dye a case and put the screen back again.

I've opened 100s of devices in my life thus far, I wouldn't say it is hard compared to some other things I've done. But, it is not easy either. There are a lot of wires, lots of glue and adhesives, nothing that is designed that it'd break or would need you to pour epoxy over but just know that patience will be necessary, and I'd tackle this with the right tools, spudgers and whatnot. On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being easy and 10 hardest, I'd put it at a 4.5. I hope this helps.

@@GameTechTalk Thanks, that very much does help. I already dyed a miyoo mini dark green. It's really nice, with black buttons. I'm tempted to try with RP4 pro but it's always going to be a $200 risk.

Unfortunately, not particularly. I also have not investigated the issue at all but if ports are being faulty it can be quite a few different things but also, these ports can be changed most times. It does require micro soldering but it's a fun skill to learn if you have never. Or maybe a shop could do it for you if it's not too expensive. Sorry this is happening, that's unfortunate.

I mean, if it doesn't power at all, I'd start with disconnecting the battery and using USB-C supplied power to see if it power up. If you have ways to test wattage going to the device as well, that would be a great way to see if the device hasn't shortcircuited, after which you'd have to find the matching transistors and test 'em. Did you ever figured out what was the issue?

Step one if you attempt any teardown, always disconnect the battery.

110% ahhaahah! Believe me, I was even more shocked when I realized it all stayed powered up and connected, I clearly was having a day that day. To anyone reading this, please listen to Sea and Ink, as this was a poor display on my part.
