Sometime in the late 15th century, the fortress that would eventually come to be known as Azkaban was created.
In these times, it wasn’t a prison. It was something much worse. In fact, after it was eventually taken over by the Ministry of Magic, those who had investigated refused to speak of the horrors they had found within.
Among those horrors, dementors, possibly the darkest, most vile creatures in all of the Wizarding World.
How is it these creatures were not only allowed to stay at Azkaban, but given full control as guardians of a new wizard prison?

Hopefully no Death Eaters had kids to pursue this. Hopefully Dementors don't get any funny ideas of their own. Hopefully no one breeds them and makes a Dementor Army. Hopefully a lot of things never happen.

Also the whole Helena Ravenclaw and Bloody Baron thing shocked me when I first learned about it. Ah man these suggestions I’m making are both kinda tragic 😅. Maybe a video on the process to become an Animagus would be cool, more uplifting lol. I can just imagine the crazy ways the marauders tried to hide keeping a leaf in their mouth from McGonagall for a month 😂

Great video Retro, Ive always thought Eckrisdis erected the island as a source for his inhumane experiments & cruelty, or he could have possibly found it while he was allready mad, & over the years of his torture of those unfortunate to encounter him, the atmosphere would have changed for the worse. I thought Isadora was unintentionally doing what Eckrisdis did but on a lesser scale, drain a person's life-force so that they'll become so obsessed with reclaiming it but its never enough, but her intention was to heal or takeaway. Im hoping dementors will be a new foe in the sequel, where the patronus will be a must. Loved this lore video, perhaps you could do a video on the unforgiveables, when were they first constructed, the horrors that followed their destruction, the banning of them in 1717 & the contiued use of them. Please more lore videos, and the way you express the description of Dementor - like a form of dementia as they slowly took away memories from prisoners. I thought that Sirius escape was the first because he didn't have help. He unlike Barty younger who didn't he needed his parents.

The amount of Hufflepuffs I watched go to Azkaban and then still decided to turn Sebastian in made me so mad. That is a fate that should be reserved only for the worst.

Yeah...I think what Seb did is terrible and he deserves punishment...but very few truly deserve Azkaban. And it should definitely be off the table for minors! Also to be fair, the game never says he went to Azkaban. If you turn him in, Ominis says "He's been expelled - and will soon face trial at the Ministry."

Is it possible that dementors of azkaban were once muggles? I mean if acristus tortured muggles that stumbled on the island what if torture included horrible experiments? Whatever achristus did to muggles could've triggered their transformation into dementors as a result especially if he experimented on them too. It's reasonable assumption.

@dylanmcleod5489 You know it would interesting to see what effect a patronus would have on a lethifold 🤔 We've allready seen how dementors react, but never in the series have we seen a lethifold or its reaction. Would be cook to have both as foes in the sequel in dungeons or long abandoned 🏰

@dylanmcleod5489 Would be good to see the charm in action against a lethifold. I had thought of using the dementors miserable, decaying presence against them that, along with their soul drain/ dementors kiss. a charm or curse, similar to a black hole or decaying curse where it crushes them out of existence or decays them to ashes both skeleton & cloak. Then again maybe aim thinking about this the wrong way. They are amongst the most foul creatures on earth. Would make for a good fiction.

I agree, Dylan! Seeing as Lethifolds are basically paper-thin cloak-like killer creatures, only able to warded off by a powerful enough Patronus charm, they're terrifying! They can creep up on someone silently, even while they're sleeping. Dementors, on the other hand, have a disadvantage in their "death rattle" breathing, which gives them away (as does the cold sensation they cause).

I feel Hogwarts Legacy should have introduced Azkaban or at least Dementors. That way you'd also have your Wizarding world patronus in the game too not just your wand.

Yeah, I was holding out hope for an Azkaban DLC with the Patronus charm, but doesn't look like that will happen. Also, you do get to see Azkaban briefly if you play as a Hufflepuff.

I hope we see some of this lore in a Hogwarts legacy sequel I’d love to free roam Azkaban Island and the prison and be able to use the Patronus Charm on dementors during mass breakout and fight dark wizards you put away in the previous game
