Did you know that one of the most recognizable patronuses in all of the Wizarding World is also among the rarest?
Back in September of 2016, the site formerly known as Pottermore launched a quiz for fans to see which magical creature they would have as a patronus.
Three years later, WizardingWorld.com shared a list of the top 20 most common, as well as a handful of rarities.
The regal stag comes in at 118th overall, but with more than 140 total patronuses in the quiz, there are plenty of others even more rare.
In this video, we’ll take a look at the top 10 rarest patronuses in all of the Wizarding World.

My girlfriend(now fiance) and I did the test as well separately from eachother and we both actually got the same patronus and house. We both got an Osprey and Gryffindor

Rowling most likely kept the phoenix out of the quiz because Dumbledore is the only person capable of producing such a powerful one. It's very fitting for the character I think. Also my Patronus is a thestral, and I hope to see more videos about wizarding lore from this channel.

Yeah, that could definitely be the reason. And if so, that would probably make it truly the rarest patronus in the WW. As for the lore videos, we've done a few so far (make sure you check those out!) - and have ideas for plenty of others to come!

I was so delighted when I got the Occamy as mine. I didn't even know it was an option and it felt perfect since I both love birds and am a Slytherin, and it seemed like a mix of the two in a way.

I got badger. I wish there was a way to redo the quiz, without having to lose my wand and house that I love so much. If there is a way, they should also add in the phoenix patronus and what is only a fan-art now, the thunderbird.

Yeah I get locking the sorting, but we should definitely be able to redo the patronus. It’s even lore accurate because we know your patronus can change!

The first time I took it my patronus was an orangutan and I was a gryiffindor, and I love that patronus because it's so weird. I retook it years later and got hufflepuff and black swan, and yeah, I definitely changed into a hufflepuff with age lol

really interesting vid, I think that's the website I used to take the quizz and the result was...rather heavy. Apparently my patronus is a freaking Elephant!

The Albatros is the rarest because no one tries to get it! Lots of ppl want to get the patronus that they want, so they read how to get things like unicorns and dragons! But no one looks at the results and decides they want the Albatros, that’s why it’s the rarest! I did it with no knowledge of what or how to get answers, am Hufflepuff with mink patronus, wand is similar to Neville’s, cherry, unicorn 11 3/4” 🍻

Yeah, good point. Once everyone found the correct answers to get certain patronuses, that would have started skewing some results for sure.

good to know after taking the test my patronus is a Hypogryph. Funny how I love slytherin, but hated Draco Malfoy, and cheered with my friends when he got attacked by the Hypogryph.

My patronus is a nebelung cat, which makes sense I love cats..I'm a Hufflepuff, my wand is lime wood with a unicorn hair core and with slightly yielding flexibility and is 10 inches long

After seeing so many people get animals they didn't like, I was sceptical of the quiz but I ended up with a wolf which I was very happy with.

Mine is a dragonfly. Still not sure what that means. I suppose it’s a good fit. To fly in any direction fast and be free… to be a fierce predator and yet so small. I love insects of any kind. They are very beautiful creatures. I’m a griffindor.

Dragonfly sounds like a really cool patronus! Here's what mugglenet says about that one: "The dragonfly is steeped in illusionary magic. The abilities to create a strong, almost "hypnotic" outer shell for the world, see beneath your own illusion and those of others, and gain strong mental clarity are common traits of the dragonfly. It is also a messenger, carrying with it messages from the past, far distances, and the spiritual realm. Dragonflies are representative of what it means to be light, reflective, and full of joy - in all senses of the words. Dragonfly medicine tends to be very emotional and passionate, often accompanying a great revelation or discovery of self. This Patronus may be tiny, but its spirit is enough to battle any Dementor."

Sure, there's a little breakdown on the Mugglenet comprehensive guide: "The king cobra is the world's longest venomous snake, capable of swallowing prey larger than its own head. Keen-eyed with sharp senses, this snake rarely bites humans but can be highly aggressive if provoked. The king cobra is a powerful Patronus, warding Dementors away with its intimidating hiss and beautifully scaled hood."

I took the Wizardmore quizzes. I'm still a Hufflepuff, but I've gotten a Bloodhound (Wizarding World site) and a Dolphin (Wizardmore) as my Patronus.

3:23 Previously, I thought each corporeal patronus had equal formidability against dementors. However, according to this quote, patronuses possess varying levels of formidability when attacking dementors. Therefore, one may infer that some corporeal patronuses are less effective than others, which may contradict the legend of Illyius who warded off multiple dementors with his diminutive patronus.

Yeah, I was curious about that too. I believe the Illyius story would be considered canon as JKR has even referenced it on the WW site. I think Mugglenet was likely weaving their own interpretations into some of those breakdowns as well. They're pulling a lot from the FB book, but those don't talk about the patronus forms of the creatures. I just can't imagine a wizard strong enough to produce a fully corporeal patronus would have a situation where it wasn't effective against dementors.

Also, according to WizardingWorld, the "form of a Patronus may change during the course of a witch or wizard’s life" so what people receive as a Patronus may not be what defines them their entire life and any form is possible.
