The one thing I'll say in defense about the scene with Luke and Darth Vader on the bridge is that if they wanted to fight each other, they would have fought each other. I actually think that's one of the best moments in the movie. They gave the two characters a chance to actually breathe. I also think it was important for the Ark of Darth Vader that he didn't want the fight luke. You can feel that torment as he tries to suppress the good side creeping back in when faced with his son who is purposefully speaking calmly and gently to him, man to man. I think it's a good scene. It makes the fight scene later a bit more powerful because you know Vader doesn't want to do it.

Another Han line I liked was: Han: So, how are we doing? Luke: Like usual. Han: That bad, huh?

Bad things: 1) Boba Fett goes out like a punk. 2) Bad green screens. 3) Ewoks & child-friendly tone. Good things: 1) Best space battle of the OG trilogy. 2) Emotional conflict. 3) Lightsaber fights. 4) Amazingly satisfying ending.

The end of return of the Jedi with darth vader and luke is probably my favor scene in all of star wars. Def one of my favorites for movies in general

People complaining about bobas death baffle me. He was never really established to be some amazing cool guy at this point. He was just another random bounty hunter that people latched on to cause they thought his armour was cool. Since then we've got more stuff from the EU and shit. At the time boba was a nothing character. George himself has said he was just another minion. His death was kinda comical, so? Star wars fans really like 2 movies and think they love the franchise. Everyone's entitled to their opinion but nitpicks like bobas death are frustrating.

Luke's black outfit that he wears in this movie is low-key the best fit in all of Star Wars. It's pretty subtle, but next time you watch the movie, pay attention to it and just admire how stylish he is.

Return of the jedi is by far my favourite movie. Probably because of the difference between empire and rotj, Luke was so young a naive and in this one he's quite the force to be reckoned with. Him entering Jabbas palace the way he did was a clear sign of his growth between the films. Your opinion however cosmonaut, is valid.

Lando didn't really betray Han in so many words. He succeeded at both protecting the city and people he was responsible for, AND rescuing Han who he turned in to accomplish the first goal. He got to have his cake and eat it too.

C-3PO is very hesitant about lying to the teddy bears so Luke telling him the plan wouldn't be a great idea. Also sending R2 likely wouldn't be enough as he's an astromech droid, not much use for that kind of palace, they end up just using him as a table. 3PO ends up being very useful to Jabba with his translations

I love the idea that everyone on the Empire's side gave up on the war except for Vader. I find that hilarious.

I do still love Return of the Jedi but this video had me crying with laughter and definitely made me see its faults more

I was 11 when it came out (like many others, I see!). I remember loving the experience, feeling like it was going by too quickly, wanting to savor every moment. But as we waited outside for my parents to pick us up and the crowd surrounding me was euphoric and talking about how cool it was, I felt for the first time in my life a distinct gap between what I was feeling and what they were expressing. It was disappointment, but it would take a long time for me to acknowledge it. Meanwhile, I bought the toys, books, tapes, and posters. There was enough to love about Return of the Jedi to forget that initial feeling and just keep on being a Star Wars fan. Then it came. I was in college when the February 1997 issue of Sci-Fi Universe magazine hit the stands. In big bold letters, the cover read, "FIFTY REASONS WHY WE HATE RETURN OF THE JEDI (and love Star Wars...). Reading it was cathartic. It was clever, genuine, and funny writing, obviously posited by people who really loved the franchise. My buddy and I would take turns reading it aloud to each other like a performance, it was so good. There was a side bar about all the ways Jedi was amazing, too. You hit a lot of the points covered in the essay, and I appreciated the deeper look and personal perspectives brought with this video. Clear, funny, informative, and - again - with an obvious love of Star Wars. Fun Asides: When the Special Edition came out, it was a thrill to see the ANH in the theater again. I relished watching the younger audience that was talking and joking through Empire get completely sucked into it and shut the F up. By the time Han got frozen, the entire theater was silent and learning into the screen, dumbfounded by how good it was. The same full audience laughed a lot through Return of the Jedi. The biggest unintentional laugh came when Vader said, "My son is with them. I have FELT him." I hadn't realized how suggestive that line was, but boy did the audience roar form it.

I recognize this movie has flaws and pacing issues galore but you're a damn liar If you say it doesnt wrap up Luke and Vader's character arcs PERFECTLY and deserves to be highly respected for that much.

In the first two movies the empire is so much more powerful than the rebellion that the rebels have to hide from it. In the third movie the rebellion is strong enough to take on the empire. It would be nice if this was somehow explained. Maybe more people have joined them, or they've had time to build more and better ships.

Leia using the grenade was to show Jabba that, not only is her motivation for collecting a bounty, but to also solidify herself as a legitimate character of the underworld, by using a fierce negotiating tactic. Of COURSE if the grenade is set off, no one wins, but that's not the point. The point is to sacrifice a few teammates in order for everyone to escape together. It's impossible to rescue only one, so the plan was to fully infiltrate their criminal enterprise and rely on R2 being able to fire out Luke's lightsaber to him at the right time. Of course, this requires a lot of things to line up perfectly for Luke (which I'm not a fan of), but that is the point of the entire setup. It makes sense, but you have to exit your current state as a "KZfaq critic" and think from different perspectives. Also, not telling C3PO about the plan was a GOOD thing. C3PO is a blabbermouth. He can't keep secrets. He'd most likely give away the plan, which is why it was the safer risk to put him in that situation with R2 without knowing anything.

I always thought the Han rescue was just like repeated attempts after each previous one fails. And the nod is just like, "Well, uh I guess we are left with the nuclear option, fucking shit up Jedi style." The only thing he'd have to plan is having the lightsaber hidden, which isn't nuts. despite all the reasons you gave. this movie is still my favorite. The final Ground battle on Endor, Luke vs Vader, the Space battle, it was all perfect. I can't find any reason to dislike this movie. Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith are Unapologetically my favorite Star Wars movies.

I love ROTJ for Wedge’s part the most. He’s finally shown in film leading the entire squadron and helps blow up the second Death Star without a sweat like a badass.

i think the main problem of this is that is a safe movie, with Empire they actually tried do something different and more ambitious, because there was no way the sequel to the Star wars was gonna flop so there was no risk, its the type of sequel that doesn't make the first movie again, its more mature, less predictable, amazing direction, there is no big battle at the end and stuff like that, and Jedi isn't any of that, its a step back, its even less mature than New hope, its kinda disappointing watching it with Empire lenses, George Lucas didn't learn ansolutely nothing with Empire, he just made the sequel to the first movie he made, because yea, this is a George Lucas movie in a nutshell.

Luke, Vader and Palpatine carried the whole movie it's embarrassing how needless all the other stuff is. Luke is literally the only character who had gradual and consistent character development throughout the movie. Han, Leia and Lando's character arcs had clearly ended with Empire cause they had nothing to add to the story in Jedi other than the usual helping the rebels fight the empire and surviving with no struggles. The empire is building a new Death Star... Nobody seems to question how or why they just go along with it and welp, gotta destroy it. Luke explains Leia that they're twins and Vader is their father... Leia doesn't give a shit. Leia explains Han Luke is her brother... Han doesn't give a shit.

Personally, I think the dynamic between Luke and Vader, Vader’s redemption and the emperor was what made the movie. It makes up for the dumb and silly parts. I rank it number three after Empire and New Hope.

Honestly I like how Palpatine let's the rebels on to Endor, I think he was trying to give the rebellion a false sense of hope and then crush it. He actually does this a lot in the novels and comics, he's all about the mental mind games with him. So I personally like this part. Also Vader's obvious confusion is FREAKING hilarious. All Vader wants to do is kill, he wants to brutally take out everyone opposing him while Palpatine has patience and wants to get rid of the rebellion with one swipe. So yeah I actually like this part

I'll admit that the whole convoluted scheme MAY SEEM like some Qui-Gon level shit, but when you look at it more as a bunch of luke's plans failing rather than one big convoluted mega-plan, it makes much more sense. regardless, I liked the action from it, and while Han was much better in the other movies and he shouldn't have been in this one as much, I like that they left him alive. maybe they coulda just showed him being saved and just didn't do anything with him until the end where he's like helping with the death star a LITTLE BIT. he's a pilot. I think that he didn't need to be on Endor or really in any of the other stuff. but I like the rest of it. I like the Ewoks (not how they beat stormpoopers, that was dumb they're like mini bears) because they're cute and funny, I liked everything else, and I think Luke's story was great. when Luke and Vader meet again, it didn't need to be super exiting because Vader didn't want Luke dead. He was going easy in Empire. Luke was cuffed and weaponless (Vader took the saber and all), so they didn't fight or anything. So yeah. It's my favorite movie from star wars because of the Luke stuff. I think that if they had less Han, Just a little in the beginning and in the very end in the space fight part, and they made the Jabba part less confusing, it would've been perfect. (Also I liked how they used Lando a lot, if they had Han in it a lot less I still would've liked to see him in it just as much, 'cause I like his character.)

The intent wasn't that bad with the ewoks (apart from selling toys I mean) to show the empire troops could be overthrown with knowledge from nature and strategy etc, it also worked as a parallel with Vietnam but it would've worked ten times better if those were wookies instead. It's just that it was poorly set up and too ridiculous. I agree with Han's development which could've been handled way better Apart from that, those Jabba and Luke/Vader/Emperor parts were great

ROTJ is good though. It has its flaws, but it does exactly what it needs to do effortlessly.

Overall I love return of the Jedi as much as the first two, but I think this is a good video and you do make a lot of valid points, I can see the point you’re making about the acting been kind of awkward, when Luke tells Leia that he is his brother and that Vader is her father her reaction, it’s just kind of like oh, i’m not the type of reaction I would expect when you’re finding out a man Who is responsible for the deaths thousands possibly millions of people is your father. And I can see where you’re coming from with Han Solo I still think he’s good in the movie just not as good but I mean nothing can top Han in the Empire strikes back that Han at absolute best. And Han wanting Lando to fly the Falcon so bad not wanting to I get where you’re coming from, especially after what Landon did to him, but My view is that Han saw that Lando went out of his way to save him and he wants to blow up the bunker with Leia and chewy. And I personally don’t think the film is boring I’m entertained the entire time, yes the stuff of R2 and C-3PO goes on for a little too long in the beginning but it doesn’t a new Hope as well. And also it’s just a theory but the Carbonite probably had an affect on Han. And yeah Luke’s plan in the beginning is pretty convoluted, there are some awesome things in that though. And yeah what they did with Boba fat as well really stupid how they killed him off, there is so much build up to his character and Empire strikes back he was introduced to this mysterious and cool character who has a very few lines and then they killed him off in the stupidest way in return of the Jedi, at least they brought him back in the Mandalorian he was awesome and he got his own show and he did absolutely nothing with him. And I get if you dislike the second ark especially if you dislike E-wok. And I completely disagree with you about Luke and Vaters encounter of not being very interesting, The dialogue is great, and I disagree with you about the space battle in my opinion is the best space battle out of the entire franchise. Also you have to remember Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher or partially drunk when filming this as well. It’s not the directors fault. Also I can kind of get some of your criticisms about Han and Lando. But it seems like you’re ignoring a big portion of the movie Han was going down to lead the strike team, with Leah and chewy, he’s even advised to do it as well and he’s even reluctant to let Lando fly the million falcon but Landon was the original owner so who knows how to fly it better than him. But I do agree he forgives him a little bit too easily in this movie, Han should’ve been incredibly angry to see him on Tatoonie ween when he was like free from Carbonite since he’s pretty much the one who got him in that situation. Lando did save him but still. And I completely disagree with you about this movie being anti-climatic there is so much action from start to finish. There’s a beginning scene with Han, there is a bad one indoor and there’s a space battle in the destruction of the second death star there’s the conflict between Luke and Vader which you mentioned.

My friend I saw it in 83, and were both underwhelmed. Its biggest sin, is that so much of it is boring as hell. That's my biggest problem with those first two prequels too. I don't see how anyone can actually enjoy watching those things.

The last minute is one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen on this channel.

When I was a kid, I saw Star Wars - A New Hope an infinite amount of times on cable TV premium channels. I was too young when Empire Strikes Back came out (I would have been like three years old). I definitely remember when Return of the Jedi came out and remember this vividly. I remember waiting in a lonnng line to see it in the movie theater with my dad and his best friend. We didn’t have VCR yet back then and there was really no way to watch the Empire Strikes Back. There was always a huge gap in the story for me. Return of the Jedi was always so awesome just because you see what became of Luke Skywalker, that character we all came to know from watching the original Star Wars movie over and over and over again!

Luke was intensely fighting Vader before he knew he was his father - he wanted to kill the guy he thought killed his father - Lukes whole mindset changes when he discovers the truth and he flips to what most sane people would do which is to try and convert his father back to the good side, he wants his father back. SO why the fuck are you expecting Luke to just approach Vader guns blazing? You cant just label every single piece of the film that doesn't have fighting as 'dull'.

I always thought Luke's plan did fail: he really did give up the droids -- maybe he planned on rescuing them after bargaining with Jabba. So then he sent Leia in, and she got captured. So then he went in to fix stuff. I didn't get that he had planned on the skiff fight scene, only that he and his pals knew generally what they'd need to do. I never thought his plan was what we saw. Instead, we saw a bunch of plans failing. First plan was to bargain with Jabba.

Jabba is indeed cunning, in fact he let Bounty Hunter Leia win the deal to later capture her as well when she freed Han. For the rest, I don't know, probably because I grew up watching these movies I'm attached to them, still I agree with a lot of your points

Vader: A small rebel force has penetrated the shield and landed on Endor. Palpatine: Yes, I know. Marcus: ????? How was that not a dead giveaway that the Empire was setting a trap for the Alliance?! In fact, that’s the entire explanation for why they stopped striking after Empire. They were setting a trap to draw out the rebels after they got away, so they could finally beat them. Too bad Palpatine underestimated his enemy’s strength.

He actually had the guts to tell the truth

Saw it in theaters when I was 9 y/o and it was beyond mind blowing. It’s impossible to try to watch it thru that lens now. A 49 y/o me wants to hold on to that experience and not see the flaws.

I personally always felt that the whole first act was intended to build tension for the execution scene, and Luke backflipping and grabbing the green lightsaber to heroic music is the most perfect payoff I’ve ever seen on film, at least to me. AND I love that the final confrontation with the Emperor and Darth Vader is so psicological... In short, if you take Endor out and replace with... basically anything... this movie would be just as good as the other two to me. Slower paced, sure, but great all the same.

loved this film when i first watched it but even as a kid the ending felt anticlimactic. This feeling has become stronger through time and digesting more star wars content which really establishes Luke and Anakin as the best and most interesting characters in the franchise by far. This movie does Luke justice but not so much Anakin whose return from the dark side could of been a lot more fleshed out and truly touching. This honestly could of been a 4 movie series or just carried out differently. Ive always had a soft spot for Anakin and vader

I got a hot take or two for you. Hot take number 1: I love Boba Fett’s “death” because while it IS really underwhelming to see such badass character go out like an absolute bitch, I love it because it’s SO hilariously over the top and his screams only add to it! And to honest I don’t really know if this is a hot take or not but I as much as I love both battles, actually love the Battle of Endor MORE than the Battle of Hoth! And that’s mostly because of the ground assault portion of the battle, to put it simply, I thought the ground assault was what the Battle of Hoth SHOULD’VE been! The ground assault portion feels double if-not TRIPLE the length of the Battle of Hoth, there’s a lot more going on in terms of inventive moves, and they actually take some creative liberties with the setting and environment. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the Battle of Hoth and the Lightsaber duel with Luke and Darth Vader in both films (especially the latter), and to an extent I even love the dog-fight, it’s just kinda my least favorite part of the Battle. But back to the Battle of Hoth for a second, when comparing it to the Battle of Endor they DON’T compare (agree to disagree if you want), and after Episode 5 COUNTLESS times I appreciated Episode 6 far more ‘cause I kinda let down by how short the battles were and it was kinda boring to look at with its PAINFULLY muted colors compared to the eye-candy of the forest moons of Endor and A New Hope was kinda like median in between(although the scenes and quotes with Yoda training Luke still really do hold up to this). And the more I think about it, while it WAS and still is pretty memorable, (just let this next part really sink in for a brief moment so as you’re reading it so you can hear me out) I kinda have a problem with the cliffhanger with Han if the Jabba scenes that everyone complains about “being too long and pointless” are what said cliffhanger lead to in first place (not that I personally had a problem with the Jabba segment, in fact I actually enjoyed the battle in the second half and never really thought that much about Luke’s plan ). Although, I agree with the Second Death Star being fully to a good operational twist and the Lightsaber duel was quite the highlight (especially when it wasn’t memed to death unlike the Vader father plot twist). But overall, I hope you understand why I’ve always loved this movie the most and we can nonetheless agree to disagree.
