A warning has been passed on about my find. The tunnel is NOT safe to be explored inside. Do not attempt to enter.

Thanks Bob, I didn't know the drift entrance was visible either. I took a B&W photo of sorts of the mine when it was still operating, and also went through the middle of it on the train to Pontypool Rd. in 1963. Great video.

It's quite strange to see tbh. It was a massive tunnel and to come across the top of it with the date stamp was a bit eerie.

Hi Bob, great find, you would never know its there. Not sure when this portal was closed as it looks like this drift was used for other mines as well, at least that what I understood from the wikipedia entry. It doesnt take mother nature long to take back what is hers. Glad the washing plant remains Have a great week!!

I remember the drift in operation Bob and there is a video.somewhere on you tube when George Wimpey were the contractors done the main civils work on the surface including the concrete bridge you mentioned.

The pipe above the tunnel in the B&W image is still there only seen better days. As the drift went across the road (former railway) , makes me wonder if anything of the other side remains?? Great vid. Glad you caught it :) 👍👍

Thanks, I have the tunnel on my list to recee next year so I will have a look. Not sure if anything else survives, but I didn't know the drift was there, so who knows!!

@@bobsrailrelics It would be good to take a drone into the drift but way to dangerous with gases to go without breathing apparatus or gas detector. Great filming, good luck. 👍👍
