Thank you, Bob. An excellent production, as always. In my train spotting days , I and a pal in probably the early 1960’s, ventured one Saturday-probably after The Red Dragon had gone at 10am, down the Glamorganshire. We actually saw an engine (rather than a battery loco) in a shed. I recall it looked. I do hope you might produce a booklet on this gem. Something akin to the Oakwood Press pamphlets? Meantime, thank you again.

It may have been the old loco before they sold it. Not sure how much of an overlap there was. To be honest the definitive history of the line is in the canal book I mentioned, I honestly don't think I could better that. Thanks for the suggestion however

Used to remember the bridge over Newport road as a kid. Surprised it didn't get a mention, but my father used to work where Dunelm is (Citylink), and in those days it was a mass of railway sidings known as Roath Coalyard. Splott park, back in the 70's, had a derelict steam engine (think it was a small saddle or pannier tank, from memory) in the kid's play area too.

Thank you for your video and sharing some of the local history. I lived very close to Llanishen station and was a junior member of Llanishen Golf Club from 1966 and often took the train up to Cefn Onn and back again. It was sad to see the demise of both stations. Brought back a lot of memories.

Smashing video Bob. I live in Pontypridd and I've been obsessed with all these random abandoned lines for a while, I think it's crazy how many there were in the local area too! Also what surprises me is the track heading up to Caerphilly from Nantgarw roundabout, like I know it was in a cutting but damn that current road is STEEP! Do you know how I can find out what the incline was on the line?
@bobsrailrelics15 күн бұрын
@@NoBSTravelChannel I have walked that one a lot. The maximum it went to was 1 in 48, which was steep for a railway. They had to use banker locos to help push the trains up it! At the top of that path there are the remains of a coal and water replenishment bunker. If you look on my channel I did a video on it. Search Big Hill. BTW I am editing the final video in this series which is a lot nearer to where you are.

Hi Bob, I did some research on the Barry Railway between Penrhos Lower Junction and Barry Junction some years ago and I am as sure as it is possible to be that the brick wall 09:21 is the bridge marked with an arrow at 10:13. Penrhos viaduct was 115 yards long, being the shortest of the three viaducts on this section the other two were Penrheol at 385 yards and Pwll-Y-Pant at 797 yards. I am really pleased you made this video as I have always wondered if there was anything left of the bridge at 09:21 and thanks to you I now have the answer. Please keep the videos coming of the Caerphilly area they are fascinating.

@@andrewmerriman7133 Thanks, I did a talk to the local history society about the three viaduct, sneaking Walnut Tree in as a fourth. Penrheol viaduct is the one which there are few images of. One from the air and a number of it being demolished. Ironically there is a rail stuffed in the verge underneath the current road and no one seems to know why 😁
@andrewmerriman7133Ай бұрын
@@bobsrailrelics Hi Bob, That is interesting that a rail has been left on the verge, it always amazes me how often you find bits left when a line has been ripped up. I have seen a number of items just left, at Bala Junction which closed in 1965 the waiting shelter on the Down Main Platform has been left yet all the Station Buildings, Water Tower, Bridges and Signal Box were removed. In 1981 when I was there the white line was still on the platform edge. Bala Junction was the only station in Wales, as far as I know, that you could not buy a ticket to!

Some of the full-time KZfaqrs churn out videos regularly, regardless of the quality of the content. In some cases, it has led to burnout, trying to keep up with the KZfaq algorithm's bullying demands.
