This is the place that security got a bit loud with us and then the school wanted to prosecute us but with all fo that now thankfully in the past the scheool is now running paid tours to see the bunker. I was worried that I might not get in due to my rocky communications in the past, but luckily we were treated well.
So now finally the world can see the impressive and techically complex RAF/USAF Daws Hill.
Two people I met there has seen our video which was amazing because one of the gentlemen was well into his 70's. Its amazing the power of youtube.
I found this link on Mark Selwood who was the chap who gave the informative tour. I dont know if this is the same chap and if he is connected to English Heritage or to the School. I dont think it was made veryt clear how he came to be giving the tour. If Mark reads this and wants to clear this up I would appreciate any info. Many thanks.

I served as USAF security police here and it's really amazing to see the old place again after 30 years. Especially having seen it every day of my life for just about three years straight. Your video is so well done to serve as a memento for being familiar with every nook and cranny of the place having patrolled it regularly. Your tour guide is exceptionally knowledgeable and covered so many details that I remember. He is a really expert tour guide with intimate knowledge of Pine Tree's history. I left a personal mark here which maybe I'll go look for some day.

Very interesting video. As a member of the USAF in the mid '60s I was was at USAF High Wycombe from 1966 through 1967. I lived on the base and worked in the underground daily during those years and am quite familiar with what the "bunker" looked like at that time. The last refurbishment documented in your video completely changed the the place. The only thing not changed was the above ground emergency generator facility and one of the above ground buildings used for offices in the '60s. Thanks for posting this video which brought back pleasant memories of my two year stay in Buckinghamshire.

This is a classic one Matt cheers.. The security with pc's and the Net etc.. when MS DOS came out it meant "DIRTY OPERATING SYSTEM" Then years later they brought out C++ that left quite a few back doors open.

The Brown sign at the entrance is genuine, not a disguise, Daws Hill was used by the RAF in the early 90s as there was'nt enough office accommodation at RAF High Wycombe. The contracts branch was there in the above ground office block. Great video by the way

I agree with the comments that they may have had extra security to keep an eye on you, but I think they have also been extremely clever checking you was there at the begining. You was never going to get turned away as you one of the reasons they habe done this . As you have provided a great advertising block for them to bring in revenue in the future. They knew you would come to the open day and also post this video of your visit to the bunker. The tour guide was so well clued up on the bunker he must be ex-military he held an amense amount of relevant and accurate information. Keep up the good work Matt and Merry Christmas :)

Hi Matt, a very cool look at the interior of WW2, Cold war bunker. I must say they didn't seem to hide anything and were quite forthcoming with knowledge of what each room was used for and various different parts that were used to run the bunker. Even though you were herded around like sheep you still got some great footage, brilliant video Matt and thank you for sharing. xx

Exactly. Theirs got to more than mets the eye at this site. 1) Is it a for spoof site, and keep a secret there to distract you from others. 2) Is it a Officers' daughters boarding school. 3) It has relay equipment there. ie a relay station site. 4) It is fully decommissioned but has something in a historial fact that if a knowledgeable person sees it would blow some sort of cover or history timeline rewrite. Ie the guide is making some facts hidden or bending the sites story. Nothing to see here quickly moving on. If things are too hidden there is a backstory or object reason. Why haven't they got big signs up " boarding school - Ofsted graded Excellent 2019 "on entrance like others do, and no private property signs on fences. Why not just a ADT security style? as they seem to want a G4S style. Very odd. What does the Ofsted report say for this school ?

Challenge for you, we have a small early warning system, near me, I'm sure it's underground because of the air vents. I've always wanted to see in side, it's just one building on the top. I can't find any info on line. It did have a radar when I was a kid. I don't have the coordinator, but it's between skipton north yorkshire and Earby, on the back roads, west Rd.

So glad the school did these tours. I wish MOD bases did this, not to see the actual secrets that protect us, but allow us to see what our taxes fund. We are and it is our MOD and thus any land they own is ours. MOD we fund by taxes work for us to protect us, not defend against us too.

Thought the tour guide man was very knowledgeable about the bunker probably got brief on it all. Private tours would be good I think Love the coming soon trailer at the end would be nice to see it back

I did get the feeling there were things we may not have seen because we were carefully herded. I could be wrong but the confusion of being rushed around made me think a lot hadnt been seen and im sure there were some long rooms that I didnt get. Thats just a gut feeling though. I didnt see anywhere you would sleep or make food. Seemed very odd... there had to be a lot missing.

nice work as always matt. fully agree it did seem somewhat rushed and they seemed a touch paranoid about keeping the herd in one place! they need to relax a bit. your quite right in what you say that the more "serious" explorer/history buff would want/require a lot more time to fully document that site especially as it seems to have a surprising amount of equipment still in situ and a lot of it still looks like with a little fettling could be brought on line. they have as ian would say a "golden gem" ™ lets hope they keep and improve the access.

Yes it was fine as a tour for the punters. I did say to the school yesi I would take down my video in exchange for a tour which was infact their idea. However they then said I couldnt film or take photos. Whats the point then isnt it. Now everyone can take pics and vids as long as its on the rushed conveyor belt.

@shayne109 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheSecretVault well at least you managed some reasonable footage that's better than nothing! and i'm sure your last visit helped to prompt the access. but they bieng an exclusive "posh" school do seem paranoid about letting oiks on site! they need to form a small team to manage the bunker separately and isolate it from the school propper that should lower their paranoia but i'm quite sure they won't want to spend the money! im hoping someone from there is monitoring your channel and taking notes from those who actually care about these places behind the silliness like yourself, IKS et al

Really great video thank you and the guy doing the tour. I would like to take a look but your on the other side of the world. Some of the rooms you went into had red strobe lights in the roof and gas ports. Most places like that have smoke detection systems which trigger the release of FM200 halon gas. The normal sequence is if the system detects combustion produces sirens go off and the red lights start to flash. Depending on the site you may have 60 seconds to get out before the room fills with gas and your asphyxiated. There is normally a button to abort or delay the release. A gas bottle of FM 200 costs about $200k and I've seen them go off because a computer system blew a power supply or someone working in the room forgot to isolate the system and brazed some pipe on an AC unit. I would not want to be the person who did that. Most sites have multiple bottles of that gas so a false alarm could involve more than $200k of gas release. I've also seen a very old system used with and early Cray supercomputer which had tanks of CO2 bolted around the wall which would be released in the event of a fire.

Great video, Kelvedon Hatch just let you wonder around and only charge £5 or 10 to take all the photos or videos you want, they ask for a cut of anything they are used for which makes you money which is fair enough given the total freedom to take your time. Security love people like you as it would be boring as hell for them otherwise. You will get a surprise one day fiddling with those buttons, leave them alone 🤣

They were taken through where the canteen, on watch living / rec spaces were. When you were on watch same as NMSCO Northwood, the kitchens and bed spaces are locked off, and your scran was dropped off at the top of the hole where you came in, the on watch would go up to the guard room and pick up. I did an exchange here for a NATO Comms Exercise when I was at NWD. Did 3 cycles and had the 2 weeks off. If you were a watch keeper, you worked less than 6 months a year, but your first night shift was 14 or 15 hrs, but a short last day shift
