The Reverb effect in DaVinci Resolve Fairlight is a great tool that can add some depth and reverb to any audio track or clip. What a great introduction on how to get started with a common Fairlight effect quickly! With your help, I was able to enhance the singer on my video and feel confident about playing around with the controls. And it was refreshing when you admitted that some of terminology was not anything you knew about in detail -- which was fine, because this is for folks just getting started with Fairlight. Kudos!

Hi! I would use some EQ to reduce the low end and you can adjust the pitch some of you want. That should help.

How do I make the reverb go on for longer than the clip lasts?

You can extend out the clip longer or you can always make a compound clip with some blank audio in it so that the reverb can ring out.

I have a bunch of video clips where my camera is handheld and I am using a headset with a boom mic to get better, more consistent audio/audio quality. BUT, the audio is flat, lifeless and almost unrealistic. This reverb is going to go a long way to fix that in subsequent videos. I will likely create my own preset once I get one that I like. Thanks for the leg up!

How do you just add the reverb for just one clip?

Hi! You can open the effects library, go to the audio effects, then just drag and drop reverb onto your one specific clip in the timeline. Then you’ll have reverb on only that one clip.

Hi! You'd have to use the automation tools to do it, not keyframes. I'm going to have a video on it eventually. Just haven't planned it out yet. 😜

Hey very thorough video, unfortunately what I'm really looking for is someone to clarify using effects thorugh aux sends in resolve/fairlight. linking my track sends to my aux effect is just playing my track sound through my aux channel, but doesn't seem to be properly picking up any of the effects before returning to main. this is all out of my depth.

Hi! So in DaVinci Resolve 17, there's not more Aux sends, it's all call a Bus. So what I'd do is create a bus for Effects. I'll call it Bus-Effects. Then you send the audio track you want to the Bus-Effects only. Do this in the Bus Output section of the mixer in Fairlight. In the Bus-Effects in the mixer, add your effects. Then in the Bus Output section of the mixer, send the Bus-Effects to your main out. (Default main out is Bus1). I just tried it and that method worked for me. Hope this helps!

If you’re in the edit tab or in Fairlight tab, just click on the effects and drag it on top of the clip and drop it onto your clip.

Hi Jason! I´m now using Davinci Resolve full time for editing except for the reverb sound.. I don´t know what´s happening but everytime I add the following steps to reverb (usually to end a video) it sounds weird like it is muffled and kinda blasted the audio gain.. Even if I change very slightly the filters on reverb tab. Do you know what could be the problem? Because of that I always have to go back to Premiere only to create the reverb, which is super fast and plays buttery smooth for me. Thanks!

You can make a cut in a clip, then put reverb on just that clip.

Amazing dude!!!! Is there any way i can extend the reverb beyond the length of the audio clip? I have a problem that as soon as my clip ends, the reverb stops instantly as well!

Hey man! Yes! I'm going to make a video on this soon, but all you have to do is take your clip, drop it into it's own audio track, apply the reverb effect on the track, then it will ring out. Don't apply Reverb just to the clip, it won't work that way. OR if you want to apply it to the clip and have it ring out, you need to make the audio clip a compound clip, then inside the compound clip, you can add something with muted audio to make it longer, then close the compound clip. Then in the timeline, the reverb will ring out as long as the compound clip is. Hope this helps!

i cannot seem to find any sort of difference even after changing the values in my audio during playback. is their a step that i am missing??

Hi! Double check to make sure you adding the effect to the correct track. Next, in the effect, try turning the dry/wet mix to 100 just to see if it's working. Also make sure the red button by the top of the effect is turned on, if that's off then the effect is turned off. Hope one of these help! Thanks for watching!

Hi Resolve experts! So I've been trying to edit my Gopro9 4k standard wide videos but when I import/export I have black space on the left and right of my videos. Not sure what settings I need to adjust. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Hi! What resolution do you have your timeline setup in? Sounds like your footage might not match the timeline. Or you can check to see if output blanking is turned on.

@@JasonYadlovski Thanks for the reply! The videos I import are 4000x3000 pixel aspect: square. I've tried setting timeline to 3840x2160 but that doesn't change anything (still see black sides). Do you know what output blanking setting might help?

I would just make sure the output blanking settings are turned off and see what happens. Sounds like the videos are bing shrunk to fit your timeline, that's why are you getting the black lines. Try just zooming in on your clip a little to fill the frame. Probably your best bet.

Hi! DR 17 has been great for me. I've had zero issues with stability. No crashing and no issues other than figuring out the new features. I'm currently using Beta 6 on a Mac. It seems like the PC side has had some more issues, but Mac seems to be good. Remember to backup your database before upgrading. 😁

I always back it up and normaly waits for the release. But it has sounded pretty stable, but mostly from mac users. Im on pc thoe. I would not do any changes in a middle of any projects, but now I have a a chance to upgrade to beta.

I would say it’s up to you. If you’re doing paid work you may want to wait until the fall release is out.

Hey Jason. When using reverb on audio, when your clip ends the reverb continues till it resolves. How do you add this into the physical recording?

Hi! You'd have to make the clip long enough for the reverb to end. If you know you want to add the effect when recording, just leave some dead space after the last word so you can drop the clip into another track and let the reverb ring out. Another option is to make the audio clip with the reverb a compound clip and extend the audio in the compound clip so there is dead space at the end.

Hi Jason. I have a audio request for your series. In Davinci's sound effects option, you can search by "all fields" or "description". The Description field can hold multiple keywords. I want to know what free program can write these descriptions. Writing to the "comments" tag doesn't do it. A WAV file in my database has a description of "Halloween, Horror, mechanical" etc. etc. In Notepad ++ I see a tag that says "bext/ Halloween, Horror, Mechanical" etc. Can you tell us how to write these tags for our own files? Thank you. Hope you can help.

I used photoshop to do it. I held a whiteboard, Took a picture of myself, brought it into Photoshop then masked out the whiteboard and put in a screenshot of the effect. With a little bit of knowledge in Photoshop it’s pretty easy to do. 😁👍

It is pretty amazing that Black Magic Design offered this program for free. You can do almost anything with the free version. The paid version does have some good benefits and is well worth the price but it's nice that isn't not a subscription model. I think Black Magic does so well in the rest of the products they sell, it affords them the opportunity to have a great free version. 😁 I've got lots of Videos to help you out since you're just getting started, be sure to check out my Channel!
